Akutagawa has a slim build and very pale skin. He has short, black hair. Two longer strands frame his face on the sides. Closer to the tips, they change their color from black to dirty white. The bangs are short and almost completely open the forehead. The gray eyes sometimes change to red. He has a pair of hair-colored fox ears on his head. There are sharp fangs and claws like a fox. He wears an expensive red kimono with white fur on his shoulders. There is a very fluffy tail that he hides when he turns into a human, but when he wants to scare someone, he does not remove it, also with ears. The tail is black, but it turns white towards the end. He often takes a red fan with him, sometimes covering his face with it.

Akutagawa adheres to a peculiar "survival of the fittest" view of the world, arguing that weak people should die and give way to the stronger. Although he hates weakness, sometimes he finds it attractive. He feeds on the vital energy of people, but before taking their lives he likes to play with them.

A mythical creature is a yokai in Japanese mythology and folklore, a fox with supernatural abilities. He often plays the role of a trickster, according to beliefs he lives for hundreds or even thousands of years, and can also transform into other animals and humans.
Other abilities commonly attributed to kitsune include the ability to inhabit other people's bodies, exhale or otherwise create fire, appear in other people's dreams, and the ability to create illusions so complex that they are almost indistinguishable from reality. Occasionally, kitsune are attributed characteristics resembling vampires: they feed on the life or spiritual power of the people they come into contact with. Sometimes kitsune are described as guarding a round or pear-shaped object (hoshi no tama, that is, a "star ball"); it is claimed that whoever takes possession of this ball can force kitsune to help themselves; one theory claims that kitsune "store" part of their magic in this ball after transformation. Kitsune are obliged to keep their promises, otherwise they will have to be punished by lowering their rank or power level.
