Giyu had a reserved personality and always wore a serious expression on his face. He was shown to have a strong sense of justice with no tolerance for those who didn't know their own limitations and wasted their lives. Despite having a deep hatred towards Demons and never hesitating to kill one, he was able to go against the rules of the Demon Slaying Corps by protecting Nezuko Kamado upon realizing that she might be different from the rest of the Demons and even agreed to sacrifice his life for her and her brother, Tanjiro Kamado's, by committing sepukku if the girl ate a human. This implied that he didn't completely despise Demons like the rest did, and was willing to make an exception by letting them live if they didn't kill or eat humans, in turn proving that he was the most pragamatic when dealing with Demons instead of hating them like the rest of the Hunters did.

He was someone who didn't talk much and seemed to have trouble interacting with others, which is why he kept his distance from his classmates. This led him to develop a kind of complex about what others thought of him, and he refused to believe that he was hated as Shinobu Kochō claimed. After having the opportunity to interact with those around him, he wished to improve his relationship with the rest of the Pilares.

His aloof attitude was due to the fact that he developed a strong inferiority complex since his participation in the Final Selection, which made him a more severe person; this affected him to the point of wanting to abandon his position as Water Pillar. He came to his senses after Tanjiro Kamado explained to him that he shouldn't live with the guilt of being a survivor, but rather should live for the people who sacrificed their lives for him.

As his signature attire, he wore the Demon Slayer Corps' standard attire, also sporting a haori divided into two colors: one red, which belonged to his sister, and another in the form of geometric patterns in green, orange, and yellow; the latter pattern is a reminder of his friendship with Sabito.

His hair was shoulder-length, tied in a low ponytail, his eyes were sapphire (deep blue) that faded into a light blue, his skin was medium pale, although he was not muscular, you could see that he was quite fit under his shirt.

Personal Skills: ✰ - Enhanced Speed: Giyu possessed a high level of speed. At times, he was imperceptible to the sight of humans and demons. This was demonstrated on several occasions; when he snatched Nezuko Kamado from her brother's arms, when he held Inosuke Hashibira before he realized what happened, or when he cut off the head of the Lower Moon Five, Rui, in the blink of an eye.

Superhuman Physical Strength: After years of training, he eventually developed superhuman physical strength. Demonstrations of his strength were demonstrated when, for example, he managed to knock down Nezuko and Tanjiro after causing a strong gust of wind by wielding his sword or when he managed to turn his nichirin crimson by clashing it with Sanemi's sword. Skills as a Swordsman As a Pillar of the Demon Slaying Corps, Giyu was a very powerful and talented swordsman. His fighting style consisted of Water Breathing. He was able to defeat Rui with relative ease.
