Biography

Early age:

Information about Jill prior to 1998 is scarce, but it is known that her father was of French descent and her mother of Japanese descent,[6] that is, a Nikkei (a term used to refer to immigrants of Japanese descent). Jill was born in the United States of America and thus her nationality belongs to that country. When she grew up, she joined a program of the United States Army's Delta Special Forces where she trained and obtained very good grades in bomb disposal.[11] By 1996, she left the military and joined the newly created Special Tactics and Rescue Services team, better known as STARS (for its acronym in English), a subdivision of the Raccoon Police Department (RPD), in Raccoon City.

Upon joining STARS, she was assigned to the position of Rear Guard of the Alpha Team. It should be noted that Jill was already a specialist in locks and explosives.

In this unit she met Chris Redfield (with whom she would form a great bond over the years and moments lived), Barry Burton (who would become a good friend of hers), Captain Albert Wesker (for whom she felt great admiration) and the rest of the unit.

Spencer Mansion Incident:

By May 1998, the body of a twenty-year-old woman was found dismembered, later in June, a Raccoon City magazine collected the testimony of neighbors who claimed to have seen a Cerberus. [12] In July, there was an increase in cases of accidents and disappearances in the Arklay Mountains and in response the city sent the STARS Bravo Team to investigate, which were in a helicopter piloted by Kevin Dooley, a pilot of the RPD and Edward Dewey, but something unexpected happened.

Bravo Team eventually lost contact with Alpha Team and the RPD, the reasons being unknown, it was at this point that Alpha Team was sent to investigate what had happened to Bravo Team.[12] On the night of the full moon on July 24, 1998, STARS Alpha Team was flying a helicopter around the forest northwest of Raccoon City, there had recently been reports of murders in Raccoon City, reports of travelers whose families were attacked by groups of ten people, apparently victims of cannibalism. Brad landed the helicopter and the others continued their search for the other members, which turned into a nightmare...[13]

Alpha Team was attacked by a group of Cerberus, losing one of its members, which was Joseph Frost. Brad panicked and took the helicopter to the air, forcing them to escape and take refuge in the Spencer Mansion. In this mansion, Jill and Chris had to manage to survive, help their companions, face different types of creatures such as Zombies, the mutated Lisa Trevor and solve many puzzles. In her search for answers about what was happening, she obtained information about Umbrella.[14]

During the course of that night she managed to investigate the mansion and the guest house as well as other areas, during the investigation in the guest house she managed to hear her partner Barry talking to someone about a deal, when she saw him Jill asked him who he was talking to and he replied that he was talking to himself, and that the mansion was driving him crazy, Jill felt worried for Barry and still proceeded with the investigation, Jill and Barry separated on their own side to later meet again, Jill finds a wounded Enrico Marini and he tells her that there is a traitor in the STARS and when she was about to reveal more information he is shot by someone hidden behind Jill who was Albert Wesker himself but he retreated before Jill can see him. After a long journey, Jill finds Chris Redfield locked in a cell but seeing that she can't open it she tells him that she will find a way to free him promising to return.

After discovering the underground laboratory he met Rebecca Chambers.

The three members of the STARS managed to find Wesker in the underground laboratory, Albert shoots Rebecca and thanks Barry after he points his gun at Jill, Wesker tells Jill that he had Barry's family kidnapped and to save them he had to cooperate with him, Albert told them that he had always been with Umbrella and that STARS was just his simple puppet and then proceeded to show them the Tyrant T-002, and then the Tyrant woke up and killed Wesker, the reasons were simple at the moment; the Tyrant was programmed to eliminate the STARS that were in the mansion.

Jill manages to stop him in the lab and then proceeded to meet up with their companions who were still alive, Rebecca activates the self-destruct system, Jill rescues Chris Redfield from the cell in which he was locked up. When they reach the helipad they were attacked again by the Tyrant, then Brad arrived in the helicopter and helped them by launching a rocket launcher at them, Jill manages to destroy the Tyrant T-002 and with this the STARS manage to escape from the mansion before it exploded, the only survivors being Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Rebecca Chambers, Barry Burton and Brad Vickers. Since then, the events of the night of July 24 and early morning of July 25 would become known as "The Mansion Incident". [12]

Post Mansion Incident:

Two weeks after the incident at the mansion, Jill wrote in her journal that all of her wounds had healed, but she could not forget them. For most people, that was history. But for her, every time she closed her eyes, she remembered everything clearly. Zombies eating human flesh and the screams of her dying comrades, it was a wound that was in her heart. [15] Jill wrote a report for Chief Irons in which she talked about a few documents found in the mansion, "Umbrella Bio-Organic Weapons Publicity Materials", and mentioned that the contagion was not limited to humans, and could pose a dangerous risk to plants and animal life forms. [16]

All evidence of Umbrella being behind it was destroyed along with the mansion, so Chris became the most insistent member of the police force on the case, even more insistent than Jill and the others. Chris began to show great annoyance because Chief Irons turned a blind eye. Redfield barely spoke to the other police officers, caused a lot of trouble, and was very irritated. One day, he punched Officer Elran of the juvenile crime department for accidentally spilling coffee on him. Jill immediately stopped Chris, but when he saw her, he winked at her and left, then went on vacation. At midnight on August 15, he called Jill and she came to visit his apartment. As soon as she entered his room, Chris showed her a couple of sheets of paper that were part of a report on the investigation of a virus simply titled "G." Afterwards, Chris told her, "The nightmare is still going on." He continued, "It's not over yet." From that day on, Chris did his things alone, without rest, without saying anything to his partner.[15]

STARS was soon replaced by the Select Police Force (SPF), a standard SWAT team made up of lower-level police officers.[17] Since everyone in Raccoon City was biased towards Umbrella, no one would help them, as it was a major source of employment. Jill and Chris decided to head straight to Umbrella's European headquarters to investigate.

On August 24, 1998, Chris left town to go to Europe only in advance, Jill would join him in a month or so. [15] Barry meanwhile would leave for Canada with his family for a few days to settle them there, as he did not trust them to be safe in the United States. Two months after the mansion incident, Jill's investigations in Raccoon City were ruined when an unexpected outbreak of the T-Virus spread throughout the city and its surroundings, forcing Jill to flee her apartment on the night of September 27, 1998.

Raccoon City destruction incident:

It is unknown what Jill did in the days before the madness broke out on the streets. She had been removed from the police force following the Spencer Mansion Incident, and was under investigation by Internal Affairs because the S.T.A.R.S. group was believed to have been unprofessional, and their poor performance had cost the lives of several colleagues on the squad and other members of the police force, not to mention the fact that they did not solve the case. It is assumed that she assisted in the efforts to combat the infected, but her badge was temporarily suspended.

By the time zombies and T-Virus-infected animals had taken over the city, Jill had taken refuge in an apartment building (believed to be her own), but when a fire broke out, she had to speed up her plans to flee the city. She arrived at an abandoned warehouse where she met Dario Rosso, an aspiring novelist who had recently lost his wife and daughter to zombies. Jill tried to convince Dario to escape with her, but he refused to go outside as he was terrified of the zombies, then locked himself inside a shipping container and stayed there. Jill, realizing that it would be useless to change his mind, continued on alone.

While searching for escape routes through the streets of Upper Raccoon City, she encountered Alpha Team pilot Brad Vickers at Black Jack's Bar, who had been attacked by a zombie in front of her, and she was forced to save him. Brad proceeded to warn her about a monster he had encountered and escaped from. According to him, he claimed that the creature was seeking out the remaining S.T.A.R.S. members to kill them, and Jill and Brad then split up. Jill continued to investigate the area in search of a way out, later heading to the Raccoon Police Department, and upon arriving witnessed Brad being killed by Nemesis, the monster Brad had warned her about earlier.[18][19]

Jill managed to defeat Nemesis temporarily and entered the RPD to escape from him. When Jill entered the RPD she was only able to explore a few parts as some rooms, including the east wing office, were firmly barricaded and locked. Jill stayed to check on the west wing where the only survivor was Marvin Branagh, who she believed was dead as she found him lying on the floor, but was actually unconscious. In the evidence room, she retrieved a key to Raccoon City Hall (in the guise of a blue gemstone) and the key to the STARS office. The door to the archives where the key was located could only be opened by using a code obtained by using a STARS keycard on the computer in the reception area. Jill headed to the west wing on the second floor to open the STARS office by using the newly found key. In the office, she retrieved her lockpick and also listened to a radio message from a man named Carlos, who said that he had lost contact with his squad. As he prepared to leave, Nemesis jumped from the window near the stairs.

Jill managed to fight back and return to the offices, however, Marvin had mysteriously disappeared. With Nemesis already inside the station, the precinct was no longer safe, so Jill decided to flee the scene. Upon exiting, she noticed that Brad's body had also mysteriously disappeared.[18][19]

While escaping from Nemesis, she made her way to downtown Raccoon City, where she came across the corpses of the mercenaries she had heard about on the radio. There she met Carlos Oliveira, a surviving member of the Umbrella Biological Countermeasures Service (UBCS). Jill was eventually able to open the doors to the City Hall corridor, which had also been overrun by zombies, and made her way to the subway station, where she found Carlos again, this time alongside Nikolai Zinoviev and Mikhail Victor, both members of the UBCS.

Nikolai told them that in order to escape they needed to get to the St. Michael's Clock Tower, which was the evacuation point. However, it was too far away, so the only option was to run the Tram. It was not working because it had important parts damaged, so Jill had to find the missing parts to repair it. She visited the Stagla Gas Station, the Power Plant, and the Umbrella Sales Office (in which she witnessed the bad luck of Murphy Seeker, an infected UBCS mercenary who was killed by his colleagues moments after Jill entered the office).

After obtaining everything needed to get the broken down Tram running, she revisited the warehouse to check on Dario and take him to the evacuation zone, however, she only encountered a large group of zombies, which had already invaded the warehouse, and devoured Dario (he apparently left his shelter in search of food and was caught) Jill then returned to the Tram with the missing parts, repaired it, started the engine, and the group got ready for the trip.

Suddenly a loud explosion is heard, Nemesis had located them, had boarded the Tram and intended to kill Jill. However, Mikhail gave his life to protect her by committing a suicide attack against Nemesis using a grenade (in the remake, Mikhail detonates some C4 explosives he had with him), the tram began to derail as a result of the explosion, so Jill and Carlos ended up crashing into the facade of the Clock Tower.

After the accident, Jill took refuge inside the Tower while she looked for a way to activate the bell and thus give the warning to be evacuated. However, after the helicopter appeared, Nemesis appeared, attacked the helicopter with a rocket launcher (causing it to crash into the building), attacked Jill and Carlos, and infected her with the T-virus.

After a tough fight at the entrance of the Tower, Jill managed to defeat her enemy, but she felt tired and ended up falling unconscious. Carlos finally woke up and saw her, he took her to the chapel of the Clock Tower, laying her on a small table while she was in a coma and with a fever.[18][19]

Jill remained unconscious in the Clock Tower chapel between September 28 and 30, and was guarded by Carlos. In the early hours of October 1, Jill came to and told Carlos that she had been infected by the T-Virus. Carlos knew he did not have much time, so he was forced to find a cure for Jill before she turned into a zombie. She also asked Carlos to shoot her if the time came, since she did not want to become a zombie.

Carlos set out to find a cure for Jill, and soon returned from Raccoon General Hospital with a vaccine. After administering it to Jill, she made a full recovery. Carlos warned her that Nikolai was still alive and that she should not trust him. (Although Jill was cured, the T-Virus did not completely disappear from her body, but was left in a dormant state.)[18][19]

Shortly afterward, Jill discovered another of Umbrella's dangerous waste disposal facilities hidden behind a park. At this facility, she repeatedly confronted Nemesis, emerging unscathed and leaving the creature for dead after the confrontation in the Waste Treatment Facility.

After this, Jill and Carlos were desperately looking for a helicopter, however, Nikolai took the last one and left her alive after a brief negotiation. Almost without hope, they decided to look for another way out, a situation that was aggravated when they found out that the missile had already been launched and they had only a few minutes before it arrived to destroy the city and its surroundings.

In her search she found an old warehouse, where there were bodies of soldiers and different creatures, all inert after a terrible battle. Jill continued searching until, incredibly, Nemesis appeared: the completely destroyed creature began to devour one of the corpses of a Tyrant that decorated the scene and mutated into a huge creature, unleashing the final encounter. Jill took advantage of the fact that the army had brought an experimental weapon (the Paracelsus Sword) and with it she finally dispatched the creature (although she had to finish the job with her magnum revolver).

Eventually, Jill reached the back and realized that she was beyond help, but Carlos arrived saying that he had received a radio message, that someone was looking for her. Jill was incredulous and did not understand who it was, something she discovered after getting into the helicopter (it was Barry Burton who had returned from Canada to rescue his comrade). As they flew away, Jill witnessed the destruction of Raccoon City caused by the thermobaric missile. After that day, Jill and Barry participated in various activities against Umbrella until it paid for all the damage it had done, and of course, Chris Redfield would be a key character in the following months. [18][19]

Post Raccoon City destruction:

Chris had left Raccoon City on August 24, 1998 (exactly 32 days before the incident), while Jill once again dealt with the monstrosities of the T-Virus and Nemesis, her partner doing research in Europe, however, Chris did not see it so easy either since in December his sister, Claire Redfield, was kidnapped while looking for him and was taken to Rockfort Island, when Chris found out about this he immediately left for the island. Jill at one point arrived at Chris's hideout which was empty, his knife was on the ground so Jill left and decided to look for him since she knew he was still alive, her mission was to find Chris and finish off Umbrella. [20]

Prelude to the fall:

By February 2003, Chris and Jill had reunited in Europe, joining the Private Biohazard Containment Unit as a means of taking down the Umbrella Corporation and its supposed base in Russia. Wesker learned that they were heading to a town called Matsed (МАЦЭД in Belarusian), upon arriving, Chris and Jill were attacked by zombies, after eliminating them they decided to investigate and found a girl named Anna, she was hiding from the zombies. Anna told them that it could be possible that there were more people in the Silo, so they headed to the place. Upon arriving they ended up falling into a trap set by Wesker, who locked the three of them in there by locking the door from the other side, Chris managed to help Jill and the girl Anna, and he single-handedly managed to kill all the zombies, saving Jill for the second time in the town. After this, Wesker appeared at the entrance saying "Your dumb luck never ceases to impress me. Chris." Albert told them that the town's infection was merely accidental, a foolish mistake from the past... As he tried to leave, Wesker told Chris that all he needed to know was that the town was cursed.[21]

Suddenly, a large hole formed in the middle of the Silo, none of the four expected it. δ (Delta) Hunters started coming out of the hole, so Wesker decided to leave, telling Chris to take care of those creatures. Chris managed to finish off the Hunters and together with Jill and Anna they managed to get out of the Silo and go after Wesker in their truck.

They managed to find Albert in a house trying to open a safe, Chris asked him why he was there to which Wesker replied saying that Umbrella had created a large number of hangars like the one in the Silo in many places around the world in order to preserve some of the BOWs, he also told them that he was trying to get the information or "data" of the specimens but that due to what happened he had not been able to do so, so he went to the house where they were as a second lead and hoping to get the data there. After this, he managed to catch Anna and after a few moments of tension between Chris and Wesker; the girl gave Albert a necklace that her father had given her "to protect her", her father was apparently a security guard at the Umbrella facilities and the house they were in was Anna's house. Albert took the necklace and used it as a key to open a safe but instead of finding the data, what he found was a bomb which exploded. Chris, Jill and Anna managed to get out alive... Wesker too. After leaving, Chris obtained information about where Anna's father worked, which turned out to be the Umbrella Facility in Russia.[22]

The End of Umbrella:

Following the events at Matsed, Chris and Jill set out to investigate a possible Umbrella facility, encountering a few Hunter δs along the way, which were eliminated from the helicopter. Having seen such BOWs, the odds of them being right were higher. They already believed that a new type of BOW called TA.LOS was housed there. Upon arriving, they encountered many BOWs and carried out a full-scale assault, destroying them and skillfully avoiding traps.[23]

Eventually, they were confronted by the new experimental bioweapon, codenamed TA.LOS. Sergei Vladimir revealed himself to be the creator and locked them inside the containment room along with TA.LOS to activate it in an attempt to kill them. Sergei taunted them, saying that as partners, Chris and Jill knew the feeling of surviving a battle, but with TA.LOS no amount of battle experience was enough to defeat it. Having no choice but to fight, Chris and Jill were left to confront the BOW, eventually succeeding in ending Umbrella once and for all, destroying all that remained and thus ending one of Chris' greatest goals; "Destroying Umbrella".[23][19]

After leaving the facility, Chris and Jill lamented that Wesker was still alive somewhere. Although their troubles with Umbrella were over, it would only be a matter of time before they heard from Albert again. Unbeknownst to them, Wesker had infiltrated the facility in order to end Sergei Vladimir's life and take Umbrella's data, indirectly helping them and using them at the same time.[23]

After this, Umbrella was found guilty of all the acts that occurred in Raccoon City, the Russian government and the FBI decided to collaborate in the search for Oswell E. Spencer, but in the end, it would not be any of those organizations that would find him.[24]

BSSA Foundation:

Early years:

Following the collapse of Umbrella in 2003, bio-organic weapons were no longer limited to conflict zones, but were being used in terrorist attacks against innocent citizens. It was then that Chris and Jill joined the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (BSAA), an organization dedicated to eliminating bio-organic weapons.[25] The two traveled around the world together in their fight to bring bioterrorists to justice.

Jill and Chris became two of the original eleven founders of the BSAA and joined forces to fight bioterrorism and biological weapons around the world, primarily as SOA agents. They succeeded in stopping the proliferation of biological weapons in Asia, destroyed illegal laboratories in South America, arrested European drug dealers, and patrolled the world to eradicate bioterrorism. Although they never produced any convincing evidence, during these missions suspicions arose that Umbrella had been involved in many of these shady dealings.[26]

The Veltro and the BSAA:

Investigations on the coast bordering Terragrigia:

In 2004, the Mediterranean city of Terragrigia, a symbol of the union of Europe and the United States, was the victim of a bioterrorist attack by an organization known as Il Veltro, eventually forcing the Federal Bioterrorism Commission (FBC) and the U.S. government to use a satellite known as Regia SOLIS to destroy the city, which was used to concentrate the sun's rays to power the solar panels that powered the city. Terragrigia was destroyed and has since become known as the "Terragrigia Panic."[27]

A year later in 2005, mysterious corpses began washing up on a beach near the ruins of Terragrigia. Jill Valentine and Parker Luciani were sent to investigate the area under the direct supervision of then BSAA Director Clive R. O'Brian, whom they encountered on the restricted beach. Jill and Parker analyzed the remains in the area using a scanning device called the "Genesis" created by Quint Cetcham. They eventually encountered strange mass-formed creatures, which turned out to be Globsters. After completing the analysis of the area and destroying some Globsters, O'Brian received a call that seemed to be urgent. O'Brian informed Jill and Parker that Agents Chris Redfield and Jessica Sherawat had been reported missing on a mission whose last recorded location had been in the Mediterranean Sea.

Jill cared for Chris as Parker cared for Jessica, as she had been his partner when they were both part of the FBC, Jill and Parker decided to go look for them which O'Brian approved.[27]

In Search of Chris:

Jill and Parker set out for the Mediterranean Sea, taking into account that it would be logical for Chris to be on a ship. When they reached the coordinate where, according to the last information received, Chris had last been, they came across a huge ship called the Queen Zenobia, which they boarded.

On the ship they found the corpses of the crew members now turned into BOWs known as "Oozes", after defeating one of these creatures, Jill decided to go find Chris on her own, leaving Parker behind to investigate that creature. [27] Jill managed to find a room which had a closed door, but through a small grate she managed to see that inside the room there was a man tied to a chair, said man seemed to be Chris, Jill tried to call him but he appeared to be unconscious, after this, Jill informed Parker about what she saw and went in search of a key to open said door. During the search Jill saw how a woman was killed by a pair of Oozes, when she reached the room she killed the two creatures and examined the body of that woman, but she could not identify her, although in it she found the key she was looking for to open that locked door.

Jill met Parker at the entrance of the room where Chris seemed to be tied up. When they opened the door and entered, they approached and Jill touched the back of who she thought was Chris, however, his head came off his body and then they noticed that it was not Chris but a doll similar to him. In addition, at that moment they noticed that there was a flag of Il Veltro there, so consequently, they had fallen into a trap. A gas began to enter the room which made Jill and Parker faint. When Jill woke up, she noticed that she was in one of the ship's cabins, separated from Parker, locked up and without weapons. After violating the system that closed the door and a few altercations, both managed to meet and recover their weapons. Their new objective would now be to reach the Ship's Bridge. On the way there they managed to discover that the communications system was destroyed.

After this they ran into FBC agent Raymond Vester, who was also on the ship, in a brief and angry conversation, Raymond told them that they had no authority over the case and that nothing would change unless they got their hands dirty, after which he left. The FBC and the BSAA did not get along very well, nor did Jill and Parker understand what Raymond was referring to. Taking the Hull Key, they headed to the Emergency Communications Room, there they discovered that another key they needed could only be obtained from the corpse of the Communications Officer, who left a note next to the Emergency Communications Room saying that it was on the promenade deck, where the food was and where the survivors should go. [28][29]

After several confrontations with BOWs, they managed to find the Communications Officer, but he was no longer the same, due to a secondary mutation of the T-Virus Abyss he had become a Scagdead. Jill and Parker were forced to fight against that creature until they defeated it, in its remains they found the key they wanted to enter the Emergency Communications Room. Upon entering they noticed that somehow Raymond had already managed to enter, he told them that they had arrived late and then a video automatically played in which the leader of Il Veltro, Jack Norman, poured a sample of the T-Virus Abyss into a tank full of fish which turned into BOWs known as Ghiozzo. Jill and Parker then headed to repair the ship's antenna.

After repairing the ship's antenna, they contacted O'Brian, who told them that Chris and Jessica were on their way, which surprised Jill. They also learned that the Regia SOLIS satellite was being planned to be used to destroy the Queen Zenobia, prompting them to launch a small UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) from the ship in order to confuse the satellite's system into attacking the UAV instead of the ship. After confronting the mutated Rachael Foley (who turns out to be the woman who witnessed being killed by a pair of Oozes) and restoring power to the Queen Zenobia, Jill and Parker managed to contact Chris and Jessica, who had come to rescue them.

They agreed to meet at the ship's casino, but upon arriving they noticed the presence of the same Il Veltro agent who had tricked them into the gas room. He was to tell them the truth about the cause of the Terragrigia Panic, when Jessica arrived and shot the Il Veltro agent who was in turn talking to Jill and Parker. To Parker's surprise, after unmasking the terrorist, it was revealed that he was in fact Raymond Vester. After this, Chris met up with Jill and headed to the ship's laboratory in order to prevent the T-Abyss Virus from contaminating the sea, while Parker and Jessica searched for a way to delay the sinking of the Queen Zenobia. [30] At the labs, Chris and Jill managed to neutralize the T-Abyss Virus once and for all, while their actions were monitored by Morgan Lansdale, the mastermind behind the Terragrigia Panic. He revealed to them via a monitor that the Queen Zenobia would suffer the same fate as the Queen Semiramis. While escaping the ship, Parker was shot in the leg by Jessica, who turned out to be a double agent. Jill and Chris failed to save him from what seemed to be his death, though Parker managed to survive thanks to Raymond, who did not die either. Outside the Queen Zenobia, they were attacked by the same BOWs Chris had seen at sea and one that was giant, they managed to destroy with the help of Kirk Mathison. [31] Despite this, the mission was not over yet, Director O'Brian told Jill and Chris the truth, telling them all about the conspiracy with Il Veltro and the Terragrigia Panic, revealing that this was orchestrated by himself and mainly by Morgan Lansdale in order to make the world aware of the dangers of bioterrorism. He also confirmed the existence of a third ship, the Queen Dido.

Queen Dido:

In order to recover a video containing evidence that Morgan was a traitor, Chris and Jill headed to the submerged wreck of the Dido beneath the ruins of Terragrigia, where they discovered that Jack Norman, the leader of Il Veltro, was still alive. Norman had spent too much time underwater and had injected himself with too much of the Abyss T-Virus, becoming the "Ultimate Abyss". During the fight, Chris and Jill were able to destroy the creature and recover Norman's PDA (video) in order to reveal the truth about the Terragrigia Panic, thus causing Morgan's arrest and the decline of the FBC. After this, most of the FBC's equipment and members were transferred to the BSAA, which became the most powerful organization in the world to combat bioterrorism. [32]

The Arrest of Oswell E. Spencer:

In 2006, Chris and Jill received a tip from a reliable source detailing the location of Umbrella founder Oswell E. Spencer, and headed to his location with the intention of arresting him for questioning in order to find Albert, the mission being monitored by the BSAA's European Branch Headquarters (HQ) using the codename "Nest". Upon entering the Spencer family mansion it was not long before they discovered the bodies of Spencer's bodyguards who had already been brutally murdered through "unconventional means". The two had to survive and endure numerous puzzles and traps built into the mansion, and fight off quite a few Blobs that relentlessly pursued them throughout their mission. [33]

When they made it to the mansion's grounds they fell through one of the traps across an old bridge and landed in the sewers, thus losing most of their equipment. Helpless, the agents relied solely on their wits to outwit and eliminate the remaining Blobs before making their escape from the sewers. When they reached the last hallway of the mansion, they discovered that more bodyguards had been gruesomely murdered. When they opened the last door where Spencer could be hiding, they were greeted by Wesker, who had just killed Spencer a few minutes before they arrived. A brief battle soon followed.[33]

Although the two put up a strong fight, Chris and Jill were overwhelmed by Wesker's superhuman powers, and so, when Wesker was about to deliver the blow that would end Chris's life, Jill launched herself at Wesker, throwing them both out a window into the abyss beyond the mansion's cliff, Chris could do nothing as he watched Jill and Wesker fall through that window.

The BSAA conducted a three-month search to find Jill's body, but to no avail. As a result, Jill Valentine was officially declared dead in the line of duty. For the next 3 years, Chris refused to believe that Jill had died, and went on every available mission in hopes of finding some sort of clue to Jill's whereabouts and even made a promise on her grave.[25]

Effect on Chris:

No one knows the promise Chris made at Jill's empty grave, but after losing her, he redoubled his efforts to eradicate the use of bio-organic weapons anywhere in the world. Initially stationed at the BSAA's American headquarters, his research soon took him all over the globe. He participated in so many operations that before long, his name was on more missions than any other BSAA member.[25]

During one of his investigations, and with Ryan's help, he learned of an impending deal with bio-organic weapons in Africa in which a certain Ricardo Irving was involved, a name that had recently been quite frequently associated with the smuggling of this type of merchandise.

After informing the BSAA's African headquarters of Irving's intentions, Chris requested permission to immediately join their arrest operation. When questioned about his motives, Chris remained stonily silent. It is unknown whether he was withholding information. As one of the BSAA's most respected agents, his presence on such an operation greatly increased the chances of success, so permission was granted.[25]

Albert Wesker's experiments:

Neither Jill nor Wesker died on that occasion after falling into the abyss. Seriously injured and unconscious, Jill survived thanks to the help of Wesker who, after subjecting her to the appropriate medical treatment, cryogenized her. His plan was to use her as his first guinea pig once the Uroboros project was completed.

It was her way of getting her revenge. Fortunately for Jill, luck was on her side. The device monitoring her vital signs detected some anomalies. Something was going on inside her body and Wesker couldn't help but satisfy his curiosity. Upon investigating the case, he discovered that a mutant form of the T-Virus was still inside her. It was a remnant of the infection she contracted in Raccoon City. The cure she received should have eliminated all the viral agents from her body, but instead it caused the virus to remain in her body in a dormant state. Somehow, after spending a long period of time cryogenically, the virus had reactivated. Shortly after the virus was reactivated, it completely disappeared, although it left something in its place: Wesker discovered that Jill's body now possessed extraordinarily powerful antibodies.

Amazingly, during all these years of the T-Virus inhabiting her body, Jill had developed a miraculous immune system. This discovery fueled Wesker's ambitions. The development of the Uroboros virus, the key to the Uroboros project, was extremely complicated. The virus developed from the Progenitor flower had proven to be too harmful to be useful, as instead of promoting human evolution, it only brought about death. Wesker believed that Jill's antibodies could reduce the danger of the virus, so he decided to keep her alive to produce the antibodies needed for research.[19]

Ironically, Jill, the great detractor of biological weapons who had dedicated her life to eradicating them completely, was being used to develop the most terrible biological weapon. After a long period of research and experimentation, Wesker managed to perfect the Ouroboros. His involvement in the development of the virus ruled Jill out as a guinea pig for testing, as her body was protected by pure, unaltered antibodies. However, Wesker thought he would find some use for her at some point. During research into the parent virus, a new chemical was discovered. Scientists referred to it as P30. Patients who received it not only gained superhuman strength, but also became extremely vulnerable to manipulation. P30 was the ultimate performance enhancer.

The goal of the Uroboros project was to create a new race of humans, so P30 did not seem to have any relevance. However, it was concluded that it could be marketed as a product to raise additional funds. Simultaneous research was started on the Plagas and P30 to create perfect soldiers who would follow orders without resistance. Unfortunately, the latter did not yield the expected results. The effects of P30 were very short-lived. The human body metabolized and expelled the contents of a P30 injection at high speed, so it was necessary to re-administer it frequently, which reduced the viability of the product as a long-term performance enhancer.

The only solution was to place a device on the subject to continuously administer the drug. However, although the effects of P30 were short-lived, it was still a potent and effective substance. Since the effects of continuous administration were unknown, an external device was attached to Jill's body. This was attached to her chest and injected the drug continuously. And so, lacking any willpower, Jill became the servant of Excella Gionne and Albert Wesker.[19]

Africa, Kijuju:

Brainwashed and disguised, Jill took part in an incident that spread across the Kijuju Autonomous Zone. Sent to aid and care for Ricardo Irving and to lure her former BSAA comrades into a trap, Jill infected a local villager with the Uroboros Virus and left him there to mutate and attack unsuspecting BSAA members, then left the room and met up with her "partner."[34] Chris went to Kijuju to investigate strange occurrences that somehow involved Ricardo Irving, along with her new partner for that mission, BSAA SOA Agent Sheva Alomar, who would be her guide in the region.

After meeting Sheva, Chris had a brief flashback to Jill's gravestone, apparently the word "partner" reminded him of Jill. Jill and Irving later met up and saw through a camera that Agents Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar were in a garage. Irving decided to leave the place and drive away with Jill in a van and retreated into the mines. Chris and Sheva later met up with Josh Stone, Captain of Delta Team of the African Branch of the BSAA. Josh gave Chris a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant), and when Chris looked at it he noticed a woman there that bore a striking resemblance to Jill Valentine, then Chris had a quick flashback to Jill's death. [35]

He still held out hope that Jill was alive. Later Chris and Sheva finally found Irving in a warehouse. Chris, Sheva and Irving had a brief conversation while shooting at each other. Suddenly, a smoke grenade came through the window, after a moment of confusion, Jill in disguise entered through a warehouse window, grabbed Irving and left. While the two escaped, the agents managed to discover where they were headed: an oil field in the swamps.

Inside the oil field base, Jill gave Irving a briefcase full of gold bars as payment, however, Irving told her that she was "one of Excella's toys". Jill demanded to know how Irving intended to eliminate Chris and Sheva as all other attempts had failed. She strangled Irving and held him to a wall using her enhanced strength. Eventually he convinced her that he would handle the situation, Jill released him and handed him a strain of Control Plague, ordering him to use it.

Chris and Sheva met up with Josh again, Sheva then explained to Josh the situation with Chris seeing the image of Jill. Irving tried to avoid having to inject himself with the plague by activating the self-destruct system to get rid of the agents and fled on his yacht, Jill accompanied him to the dock one last time and then jumped on a speedboat and escaped, Sheva managed to see them. Later Irving had to use the plague to control it, then mutated and finally died at the hands of Chris and Sheva, in his last words Irving told them where to go.

Jill arrived at the cave leading to the underground facility to inform Wesker and Gionne about what had happened. Wesker sent them both to deal with the agents while he waited for them in the control room. Eventually, Chris and Sheva, after several fights and difficult situations, entered a facility where there were many capsules. Chris tried to find Jill there but in vain, instead they had to destroy the U-8 released by Excella. After this, they decided to go after Excella since she knew where Jill was. [36]

After defeating U-8 and the Uroboros Mkono, they finally manage to corner her, but to Chris's surprise, who reappeared from the shadows was his old rival, Albert Wesker, confirming his suspicion that he was still alive, but he was not alone, there was also the masked figure next to him, when Wesker saw him he said: Is this a big family reunion? And after a conversation he removed the hood when he was masked ... Chris could not believe what he saw, the person behind that mask was his wanted partner Jill Valentine. Luckily for him, Jill had not died that night in the Spencer family mansion, Wesker captured her to later get revenge on Chris using her as the means to do so.

A fierce battle ensued between Chris and Sheva against Wesker and Jill. Wesker eventually retreated, leaving Jill to deal with the agents. Through great teamwork with her partner Sheva, Chris managed to save Jill, removing the P30 device that supplied her with a serum that left her vulnerable to manipulation and giving her extraordinary strength and physical prowess. Jill then decided to stay behind, telling Chris that he must stop Wesker now more than ever since the fate of all humanity depended on the success of this task, as Wesker planned to spread the new Uroboros Virus across the planet. Chris did not want to leave Jill, but in the end she managed to persuade him to do so, and apologized for her actions and asked Sheva to take care of Chris. As Chris left, Jill whispered his name and fainted. [36]

Escape from Kijuju:

Josh tracked down Chris and Sheva some time later. When he arrived at the Monarch's Room, he noticed a woman on the floor. When he woke her up, he realized that the woman was Jill Valentine. He helped her up and told her that he was looking for Chris and Sheva. Jill told him that they had gone after Albert Wesker and that he was aboard a ship. Josh told Jill that he had a helicopter waiting to catch up with him, and they began a long journey in which they had to face several enemies.[37]

Jill told Josh that she had to go to the communications complex in order to tell Chris how to defeat Wesker, as she had forgotten to tell him before. Throughout their journey, the two were attacked by many Majinis and other BOWs. In some cases they had to use the Majinis' weapons in order to advance. Once they arrived at the complex, with Josh's help, Jill contacted Chris and Sheva, and told them about the origin of Wesker's power and how to stop it; Wesker needed to be given a serum to stabilize the virus he carried inside him, but if he was injected with an overdose of that serum, it could be fatal, turning it into a kind of poison for him, she gave them the name of the serum; PG67A/W. Hearing this, Sheva remembered the serum she collected earlier and verified that they did indeed have samples of said virus in their hands, then Jill mentioned to them that she would go in search of an escape route. Josh and Jill were forced to move forward and fight the Majini until Doug, the helicopter pilot, finally arrived.[36]

Once there, Josh helped Jill into the helicopter and noticed that Doug was not on board yet. Doug was then killed with a rocket launcher by the same Majini who had tried to kill Jill earlier, Josh raised the helicopter and Jill shot the Majini in the head with the rocket launcher, which fired... Josh evaded the missile. Josh was then upset about losing Doug and then headed off to help Chris and Sheva.[37]

Josh and Jill arrived just in time to help Chris and Sheva escape the volcano when Wesker had already fallen into the lava (See: Death of Albert Wesker). Jill threw a ladder and then Chris and Sheva climbed up. Albert was still in the lava, but not dead, he screamed "Chris!!!" and with his left arm he launched tentacles formed by the Ouroboros to grab the helicopter and destabilize it, then Jill told Chris and Sheva to use the helicopter's rocket launchers, they proceeded to do so and fired, it was there when Albert Wesker died after being hit by the explosion being 48 years old. [36]

Post Kijuju Incident:

Chris, Jill, Sheva and Josh were the ones who managed to get out of the Kijuju incident alive. Jill smiled at Chris as he looked at her and Sheva's faces filled with joy, and that was when he decided to continue fighting for a world without fear.

Following the Kijuju incident, Jill was subjected to scientific tests to determine the effects of Albert's experiments and possible consequences, and was admitted to rehab after the tests. Jill was tested every other day, which made her somewhat fed up. She is known to have spoken to Chris, but there are not many details about it. Chris told her that she had been officially declared missing in action, and that Barry had taken it very hard. [38] Jill also sent Barry an e-mail telling him that she was fine, gave him some advice on how to make peace with Moira, and told him that when he recovered, they should all be together (Ella, Chris, and Barry) and that since he didn't even have a funeral, he deserved a welcome home party, ending the e-mail with a winking, smiling face.
