In Victorian England, medical student Victor Frankenstein helps a nameless hunchback perform emergency surgery to save the fallen circus acrobat Lorelei. Impressed by the hunchback's healing abilities and shocked by how he is treated at the circus, Victor rescues him. He brings the young man to his home and finds out that what he has on his back is not a real hump, but a huge purulent sac caused by a long-term abscess. Victor drains him and then puts the now former hunchback in a back brace so he can stand upright. He names him Igor Straussman in honor of his recently deceased neighbor.
