Oikawa is a 3rd year student at Aoba Jōsai High School. He is the captain of the volleyball team and is widely regarded as the best player on the team, despite not being the star player. Oikawa has chocolate brown hair that extends outwards, and eyes that are similar in color to his hair. Many find him attractive to the point that several girls follow him just to talk to him. Oikawa smiles frequently (though Iwaizumi notes that these expressions are rarely genuine). He tends to make victory signs that are often accompanied by wide grins or a wink. Another well-known expression is the one he makes towards Kageyama which is him sticking out his tongue while smiling and closing one eye (which is why Iwaizumi beats him up). Oikawa is of a fairly decent height for a volleyball player, standing at just over six feet tall. On his right knee pad is a white corset, making it look like he's wearing a different colored knee pad. On the court, Oikawa wears the standard turquoise and white uniform of Aoba Jōsai High School, and his jersey is adorned with the #1, classic among captains. He also wears dark grey sneakers with blue details. During the practice match with Karasuno High School in Episode 7, Oikawa dons the number #13. Despite his flirtatious nature (which makes him very famous among the female students, with both Tanaka and Nishinoya envying him) and childishness (as noted by his nephew and Iwaizumi), Oikawa is an excellent, well-rounded player and is very serious when it comes to volleyball. He is known to have an "unpleasant personality" among some opponents and his own teammates, caused by his petulant attitude. Oikawa also frequently makes light-hearted comments, but follows them up with a serious or intimidating tone. Despite his flirtatious and dismissive exterior, Oikawa is extremely intelligent and cunning,

He is a great bettor, he has a unique character when betting, he can be hypocritical, ambitious and very very intelligent, his intelligence when betting is incredible to the point that he is considered the best bettor in the school below

He wears the male uniform, which consists of a red jacket with black sleeves and black plaid pants. Under the jacket he wears a white shirt and brown loafers. He wears a black tie.
