Denki has relatively short blonde hair, parted on the right with a black lightning bolt part to the left of his side bangs, which is angled so that it partially obscures his left eye. He has slanted, somewhat triangular yellow eyes and small eyebrows. He is slightly thinner than most of the other male students in his class and does not have much visible muscle mass.

Denki is a kind, sociable, and energetic boy who enjoys talking to people. He's very good at making friends and is rather casual when interacting with others, including antagonistic figures such as Katsuki Bakugo or Hitoshi Shinso, though he's also not above petty complaints or overreacting if he feels sufficiently upset or shocked. Denki can come across as gruff and reckless at times, but he always means well.

He is also a bit mischievous, occasionally joining in on pranks. Overall, Denki seems to have an interest in appearing cool and trendy to impress people, but has a shallow understanding of how to do so properly, such as when he arranged his room with things he thought would be cool and most of his classmates found it messy. Because of that, he is easily swayed by what is popular or stylish, even if it is due to the action of a Villain.

Denki is somewhat flirtatious with the girls in his class (and even those from other classes or schools), often accompanying Minoru Mineta on his schemes and trying to pass himself off as a smooth talker. However, he isn't very lucky with his approaches, as his advances are either ignored or rejected by all the girls he asks out. Denki isn't very bright academically and has the worst grades in his class, so he needs help when it comes to studying due to his constant neglect of schoolwork.

Despite his interest in girls, Denki respects the girls' privacy and tells Minoru that he is taking it too far.

Electrification:—Denki's Quirk allows him to emit electricity from his body as a protective aura, and can paralyze anyone who comes into contact with it. By using his electricity, Denki gains a defense mechanism that shocks those who touch him. If he produces too much electricity, he sends out a shock that lashes out in multiple directions (usually in a small perimeter surrounding him), shocking those nearby.

Denki has little to no control over it and if he goes over his power limit, his brain will short-circuit, lowering his IQ for a period of one hour, during which he will also be unable to use his Quirk until he recovers. As part of his training, Denki passed his currents of electricity through a high-capacity battery in order to be able to handle large amounts of electricity.

Super Moves:—1,300,000 Volt Discharge: (無む差さ別べつ放ほう電でん130万まんVボルト Musabetsu Hōden 130-man Boruto ?): Denki releases a massive amount of electricity to shock everyone around him. Since 1,300,000 volts is his current limit, using this technique causes his brain to short-circuit for a period of 1 hour.

2,000,000 Volt Discharge: Denki is able to increase the output of his indiscriminate discharge to 2 million volts, although this causes his brain to short-circuit faster.
