History

Philip and Caleb arrived in the town of Gravesfield when they were just children. Both were orphans and had nowhere to go. They wandered aimlessly through the forest until they reached that small town in the state of Connecticut, United States, where absolutely all its inhabitants participated in the controversial "witch hunts," where anyone accused of witchcraft by two or more people was condemned to death.
Caleb adapted to the customs of the village and instilled them in his younger brother, whom he had raised throughout Caleb's childhood after the loss of their parents. Both Wittebane brothers worked hard to be accepted in the Puritan village of Gravesfield, where the Bible was law and no questioning was tolerated.
Philip grew up with these practices, associating them with normality and developing the mindset that witches were evil, beings from hell that must be eradicated. When Philip turned 16 and Caleb turned 18, they both joined the village's practices, becoming witch hunters. But despite this, Philip wasn't very popular in the village; everyone considered him a strange boy because he had peculiar tastes, like documenting everything in his diary, observing the way wild animals lived, etc. Because of this, his older brother was his only companion, but they couldn't always be together, since Caleb was almost always working to earn money to survive, so Philip spent most of his time alone.

Caleb Wittebane. History.

Caleb Wittebane and his younger brother Philip were born in the Human Kingdom sometime around the late 16th or early 17th century. Under unknown circumstances, both Caleb and Philip were orphaned at a relatively young age. This left Caleb, as the older of the two, to assume the role of Philip's caretaker.

Caleb and his brother first arrived in the town of Gravesfield in the then-Colony of Connecticut in 1630. After their arrival, the brothers would become witch hunters, a common practice in Gravesfield at that time.

Caleb was close to his younger brother, Philip. As orphans, Caleb took on the role of Philip's caretaker, doing everything he could to raise and protect him. As adults, Caleb and Philip seemed to have remained close, as they both worked together as witch hunters.

Besides being a witch hunter, Caleb earned his living as a potato picker in the fields of a relatively wealthy landowner in the village.

Caleb Wittebane. Appearance.

Caleb was a human man with fair skin, brown eyes, thick black eyebrows, and ash-blond hair that he kept tied back in a ponytail, with a hanging lock. He had a slender build and a hooked nose.

Caleb Wittebane. Clothing.

Caleb wore a simple white shirt with the sleeves rolled up, olive green trousers held up with suspenders, and boots.

Gravesfield Village.

The citizens are puritans devoted to the words of the Bible and the church, even though these are twisted to suit the convenience of the higher-ups. The people do not question the teachings of the town pastor. There is only one school in the whole town, which children attend from the age of 5.
The beliefs of the people in this town are very conservative. Men have more freedom; they can do as they please. They are also the providers for the household, and their main occupations are farming, carpentry, blacksmithing, and witch hunting. Women, on the other hand, are expected to dedicate themselves solely to caring for the home, children, and their husbands. They are not allowed to attend school, so almost all are illiterate, except for women from wealthier families, who are then married off to richer men.

When the townspeople know something that deviates from that mold, mainly women who know how to read, write, or have some kind of knowledge beyond the tasks assigned to them, it is considered an act of witchcraft and pacts with demons. These women are persecuted and tortured until they confess to being witches, and then they are burned at the stake or hanged on gallows in the town square.
