Shikanoko Noko

One of the main characters of the series. Noko, a very strange girl in both body and mind, has deer antlers growing out of her head. She also thinks that she is half Half-Human Hybrid, and indeed she has a strong association with all things servida. She first meets Torako when Torako passes by Noko, who is hanging from telephone wires by her horns and being chased by animals; after she is rescued, she suddenly appears as Torako's classmate and immediately identifies her as a former criminal, despite Torako's best efforts to bury her past.

From this point on, Noko continues to drag Torako into intrigue as the two of them run the Deer Club, a Japanese school club whose entire purpose is to take care of deer like Noko (read: just Noko). However, despite all the antics she gets up to in each chapter, several moments imply that Noko is much more than she seems.

In Japan, there is a popular superstition that plastic bottles filled with water placed on the sidewalk will repel cats. Despite the fact that Noko is not a cat, and despite the fact that this folk superstition is as reliable as any other old wives' tale (that is, not even a little), Noko has a pathological fear of the sight of plastic bottles. This may be a reference to a real-life problem in the Nara region, where several members of its famous deer population have died after eating plastic bags.

Half-Human Hybrid: Apparently, she's just a half-human, half-hillbilly hybrid. The reason this isn't a definitive answer is because deer antlers don't usually detach harmlessly at will, detonate in a massive explosion, allow the top half of the head to be completely removed, soften and grow to absurd lengths before weaving together into a living creature of their own, and so on.

Horned Humanoid: She is mostly human in appearance, save for the deer antlers protruding from her head.

Humanoid Abomination: She claims to be a simple hybrid of a human and a deer, but neither species is capable of detaching the top of her head and there is an empty storage space inside her head where her brain should be. What the hell she is has remained unexplained until now.
