Kuro's physical characteristics give him a cunning appearance, thanks to his narrowed eyes and feline features like most of his team, due to the elongated pupil he has. He is quite tall and his build is robust. His hair is black and styled with fringes on his right side with many people describing his style as having just gotten out of bed. He is usually seen wearing a black t-shirt and sweatpants, the classic attire of his team outside of games; sometimes with a red jacket on top. In matches he wears number 1, classic among team captains.

Kuroo is regarded by many as an expert blocker and is excellent at putting pressure on opponents. He possesses fine-tuned techniques and is acknowledged as Tsukishima's blocking master. Furthermore, Kuroo is an incredible all-rounder, essential for Nekoma on both offense and defense. Much like the rest of his team, Kuroo is flexible and efficient at receiving. Despite being a middle blocker usually rotating with the libero, Kuroo has shown the ability to play in the back row capably after Yaku is ruled out due to injury. He is also currently the only starting member who has a good jump serve.
