The Tall Man [Phantasm]

Originally, the Tall Man was a mild-mannered 19th-century mortician by the name of Jebediah Morningside. After years of performing funerals and burying the dead bodies, he began to develop a fascination with any possible connection between our world and the world of the dead. Jebediah's research eventually led him to construct a machine that enabled him to travel through time and space. After going through the portal for the first time, travelling to a destination unknown, he promptly returned, irrevocably changed and henceforth known as the Tall Man.

The Tall Man appears as a tall and older white-haired man usually posing as a mortician. Subsequent to his transformation from Jebediah Morningside, he has only ever been seen to wear a tailored black suit, befitting his assumed profession. He seems to speak only rarely, preferring instead to rely on facial expressions, particularly the raising of one eyebrow, the latter of which in particular has become an icon of the character.

The Tall Man possesses superhuman strength and has been seen lifting heavy objects, like an occupied coffin, effortlessly. He also has telekinetic abilities, controlling people and objects with his mind. Severed parts of his body can transform into hostile insect-like creatures or bleed a yellow substance, possibly representing embalming fluid.

Additionally, he can shapeshift into others, including women, to deceive victims. The Tall Man surrounds himself with various accomplices, including willing human aides and resurrected corpses. His primary source of assistance comes from corpses he exhumed from graveyards, which he shrinks to dwarf size, removes the brains from, and reanimates. These reanimated dwarves, known as "Lurkers," form a significant part of his forces, complemented by foes in gas masks called "Gravers." He also uses flying metallic spheres, or "Sentinels," equipped with offensive weapons like blades and lasers. These spheres are controlled by the shrunken brains of the Lurkers and are considered his signature weapons. Later in his arsenal, he employs an alien virus that causes infected victims' heads to explode, allowing the virus to spread.

Despite being nearly impossible to kill, the Tall Man can be harmed. He has a strong aversion to cold, possibly due to his warm home realm, and shows vulnerability to certain sound frequencies that can immobilize him temporarily. Even when mortally injured, a new version of the Tall Man emerges from his portal, continuing his actions unaffected by the previous one's demise.
