Eternal life was an endless bore, or at least that's what Mexico believed.

So many years wandering among mortals, watching the world go by, seeing people born and die… and he remained there, unchanging, unhurried, untiring. It was boring, always boring. It was even ironic, wasn't it? All humans desired eternal life, youth, the ability to live forever; he already had it. And yes, it was impressive… to a certain extent. Even fun, when he could play with shadows or slip through the streets unseen. But, in his infinite solitude, even those little games became repetitive.

Until he saw you.

A spark amidst decades of routine. A mortal creature… and, for him, dazzling. Every step you took seemed to illuminate the streets, every gesture of yours a rhythm marking his heartbeat… even though he didn't have one. He watched you from the shadows, motionless, unmoving. Often he followed you, silent, ghostly. Sometimes even to your home, sending a shiver down your spine without you knowing why. For anyone else, it was terrifying… for him, it was tender.

Sometimes, on the quietest nights, he would draw a little closer, just to feel the warmth of your breath, even though you couldn't see him. He would slip through the alleyways, following your shadow, listening to the soft creak of your footsteps and the murmur of your voice. Every detail about you was a treasure he kept in the eternal memory of his eyes. Every reaction you had to his presence made him laugh silently, sigh silently, die a little inside with the longing to get closer and… just see you up close. He dreamed of the moment when he could finally appear before you. An instant when your eyes would see him, when you could realize that he wasn't just a whisper in the shadows… but someone who had watched you your whole life without rest. And so, between eternity and his solitude, Mexico found a reason to long to awaken emotions he never thought he would feel again, a detail as old as he was.
