Dainsleif is a tall man with light blond hair and sea blue eyes with distinct, star-shaped irises that are common among "pure-blood" Khaenri'ahns. He wears a mask-like eyepatch covering the right side of his face while still showing his right eye. Parts of the right side of his body appear to be covered in a blue veined pattern; namely his right arm, part of his right foot, the upper portion of his right pectoral, and as a faintly visible streak along the right side of his neck.

Dainsleif lived in Khaen'riah since he was a child, he has a natural talent for magic and so he was accepted by the royalty to study with the chief wizard, not knowing that it led him into a trap that destroyed all of Khaen'riah and he had to flee to Mondstadt.

One night on the mountains of Mondstadt, Dainsleif caught a Falling Star named Calcifer and made a contract with him. He gave his heart to the creature, binding them together, and allowing Calcifer to live for he felt sorry for him, while boosting his own magical power. After doing so, Dainsleif quit his apprenticeship and became a hermit.

Calcifer is a Fire Demon in a magical contract with Wizard Dainsleif. He used to be a falling star, whom Dainsleif was able to catch before he fell to earth and extinguished. He is a very powerful creature himself, with a great deal of magical ability, though cannot move beyond the confines of the hearth in which Dainsleif keeps him without the wizard's help.

He appears as a teardrop-shaped flame, blue in the books and orange-red in the movie, colored differently in different places in such a way as to make a face. He has tiny licks of flame that serve as arms.

Calcifer is Dainsleif's resident fire demon. As the result of a mysterious bargain with Dainsleif some years ago he agrees to heat and power the castle.

He is Dainsleif's young disciple. He is an orphan and is in charge of welcoming visitors who come to the castle to see the wizard or the king's envoys carrying letters of invitation.

Dainsleif's Castle is a wizard Dainsleif's moving castle. Powered by the fire demon Calcifer, the noisy castle emits steam and roams around like a living creature. The castle is covered with houses, cannons, and other disparate parts including ears and assorted junk. The interior includes a living room/kitchen, bedrooms for Dainsleif and Markl, and a bathroom
