Six years ago, in 2011, Rika gave Yuta an engagement ring and they promised to get married when they grew up. Unfortunately, Rika died in a street incident, then Yuta accidentally said her name, which subconsciously cursed her soul to stay with him and turn into a vengeful curse spirit.

Due to Rika's pursuit of him for five years, Yuta becomes a target for bullying. As a child, Rika was harmed by tormentors, which caused Yuta to isolate himself to protect people from being killed. In November 2016, Yuta was involved in an incident where four students who bullied him were seriously injured while being tightly locked in a locker ( which was caused by Rika protecting him). Tokyo College of Magic notices that Yuta is cursed with a special graduated curse and sends him to be executed, to which Yuta agrees. During the isolation, Yuta tries to commit suicide, but Rika stops him. Satoru Godse manages to enroll Yuuta in college and stop his execution for a while, making sure it will never happen. When Yuta decides to just stay isolated, Godse convinces Yuta to go to college, telling him that he will be alone and in college he will learn to control the curse and solve it.
