Persona Attributes

personality

Giyu always wears a stoic and unbothered expression on his face. However, he has a reserved personality and a very strong sense of justice with no tolerance towards those who don't know their own limitations and throw away their lives.[9] Despite letting Nezuko Kamado live due to Tanjiro Kamado's persistence, he shows zero hesitation when killing other demons and has no respect or mercy towards them like most Demon Slayers.[10] Even so, Giyu violated the Demon Slayer Corps' code of conduct without hesitation to protect Nezuko during Shinobu's attempt to kill her. This implies that he doesn't completely despise demons as some other Hashira do, and is willing to make an exception for a demon by letting them live if they don't kill and eat humans. This shows that he is more pragmatic in dealing with demons rather letting his hatred cloud his judgement.

who gyomei is

The gentle giant of the group, Stone Hashira Gyōmei Himejima has a huge body and an even bigger heart. He is very sensitive, seen crying almost constantly, and soft-spoken. The pious man carries his prayer beads on him at all times. His religious upbringing instilled within him a respect for all living creatures, even demons, and he feels absolute disgust whenever he has to hurt one. Because he hates suffering so much, though, he will overcome his distaste for inflicting pain in order to save humanity.Gyōmei Himejima is, physically, the strongest Hashira. He wields large, heavy iron weapons. And like the Serpent Hashira, Gyōmei Himejima gained his rank in two months. He has enhanced hearing due to having no sight. His Repetitive Action technique allows him to maximize his focus. Lastly, his persistence is notable, as he can be near death yet concentrate and regain enough stamina to ensure victory.

who sanemi is

Sanemi Shinazugawa is abrasive, hot-blooded, impulsive, and stubborn. The Wind Hashira can find any reason to be mad at another person. His body is covered with battle scars, and he seems to have the most bloodlust out of all the Hashira. He is completely intolerant of demons. All of this aggression seems to leave no room for other emotions, or is the result of repression, seen when he quickly moves on from loved one’s deaths.

The Wind Hashira is highly proficient in combat like the rest of the Hashira. He is more immune to physical painThe Wind Hashira is highly proficient in combat like the rest of the Hashira. He is more immune to physical pain than most considering the amount of injuries he’s sustained over the years. His Wind Breathing is a learned technique and one of the most consistent styles in the Demon Slayer Corps. Sanemi Shinazugawa’s mastery of it rivals all others except the original wielder.

who mitsuir is

Mitsuri Kanroji is the Love Hashira. She is emotional, protective, and, well, loving. Because she is shy and easily flustered, she tends to constantly compliment people in her head instead of aloud. This gentleness does not extend toward demons. Mitsuri Kanroji is as dedicated to killing them all as she is to finding a husband — these are her two main goals in life.

Despite her petite appearance, Mitsuri Kanroji has a special muscular composition that makes her muscles eight times denser than an ordinary human’s. She is also more flexible than the other Hashira. These two strengths balance out her being the slowest runner out of all the Hashira. Finally, Love Breathing is her own new technique. Modeled after Flame Breathing, Love Breathing has a wide range and is enhanced by Mitsuri Kanroji’s whip-like Nichiren Sword.

who Obanai is

Merciless, petty, and full of self-loathing, the partially blind Serpent Hashira Obanai Iguro is a deeply troubled individual. When he was 12, his clan cut his mouth to make it better resemble a snake’s, and he keeps the scars hidden underneath the bandages on his face. This may contribute to his animosity. Even toward his fellow Hashira, he is strict and unrelenting, bullying them for their mistakes as well as mocking them for injuries sustained against “weak” demons. These standards arehimself.

Obanai Iguro is a skilled swordsman. He has been asked to teach sword-wielding techniques to lower ranks in the organization. Serpent Breathing is also a style he devised all on his own. It makes use of twists and turns similar to how a serpent slithers to attack, and can be used in tandem with Obanai Iguro’s pet snake for extra effectiveness.

who muichiro is

Muichirō Tokitō is rather forgetful and air-headed. Although some of this is due to his memory loss, his personality is befitting of a Mist Hashira — naturally a little hazy and prone to wandering often. Logic, not emotion, guides him. He is impassive to the point of appearing indifferent to those around him except when he goes into an extreme rage — a rare yet off-putting occurrence. It’s important to note that Muichirō Tokitō isn’t apathetic, and is as devoted to his demon slaying duty as the rest of the Hashira.A child prodigy, Muichirō Tokitō ascended to the Hashira rank in only two months and is his generation’s most skilled Mist Breathing user. His indomitable willpower, constantly simmering anger, and immense strength and stamina are crucial factors in many Demon Slayer victories.

who Shinobu is

The Insect Hashira Shinobu Kochō’s outward demeanor is a façade. She acts easygoing and tranquil, with a friendly disposition. But behind her smile is a dark and mean soul, shown when she teases her fellow Hashira past playful ribbing as well as when she kills demons. Despite saying she wants to get along with demons, she is overly cruel to them, using mind games as well as physical torture when she faces them in battle. This is motivated by a desire to avenge her sister, who was killed by demons.Shinobu Kochō’s physical abilities are lacking compared to her fellow Hashira. She makes up for this with creativity, cunning, and agility. She does not use a typical Nichirin sword, but rather a modified katana that acts as a stinger to inject lethal Wisteria poison into demons. Because this weapon can’t be used to defend, Shinobu Kochō utilizes Insect Breathing in order to increase her speed and the swiftness of her blows. Although she is an impressive fighter, though, she still feels inferior to her peers.

who tengen is

The eccentric and flamboyant Tengen Uzui is the current Sound Hashira. This Breathing Technique gives him echolocation and other advanced hearing abilities. Even though he is large and muscular, and uses that to his advantage, his fighting style relies more on aesthetics and flashiness. He is the fastest Hashira, and the second physically strongest. Obviously, then, Tengen Uzui is rather proud. He is demanding, fussy, boastful, and prone to selfishness. But he is also ultimately kind and caring, with great love for his three wives as well Tengen Uzui grew up as a shinobi, so his technique reflects decades of training to sneak around and withstand unbearable pain. In his later years, though, Tengen Uzui has rejected all other aspects of the shinobi lifestyle because it devalues a warrior’s subordinates to a dangerous degree. Tengen Uzui does not see any human’s life as expendable. Their survival always comes before the mission.

who rengoku is

Kyōjurō Rengoku was the Flame Hashira. He took up the mantle after his father. Kyōjurō Rengoku was cheerful, optimistic, enthusiastic, and loud. He believed the strong have a duty to protect the weak at any cost. In addition, he was honorable and passionate, with a pure, powerful love for everyone around him. His devotion to their lives made him put their safety above his.

giyuu

There is a Water Hashira in every generation of Demon Slayers. The current master of Water Breathing is Giyū Tomioka, a stoic and stern man with little empathy for demonkind. However, his approach to fighting them is pragmatic, and he does not bring strong emotions like hatred into his battles — shown when he is sympathetic toward

what hashiras are

The Hashira (柱 (はしら) Hashira, lit. Pillars) are the highest-ranking Demon Slayers in the Demon Slayer Corps. Hashira is the highest rank that Demon Slayers can obtain in the Demon Slayer Corps

giyuu

Giyu appears to have a complex with what others think of him and is shocked when Shinobu Kocho claims he is hated by many.[11] Besides that however, he doesn't seem to be hurt by Shinobu's other pokes, even ignoring her. Despite that, they are in fact friends with a good amount of history together. He is a man of very few words and has trouble interacting with others, so he usually keeps himself at a distance.[12] He even goes out of his way to tell Akaza that he hates talking, and wants to keep his name to himself, as he thinks names are not meant to be shared, especially to demons.Despite this, Giyu will not let his personal relationships get in the way of his duty. When Tanjiro begins his assault as a demon, Giyu is the first to announce that they need to take him down, despite his brotherly-type relationship with Tanjiro. Following the death of Muzan Kibutsuji and the eradication of demons for good, it is clear that Giyu has been able to embrace his happier side, shown by his smiles towards the Kamado siblings and even Sanemi, which shows how much their combative relationship has slowly developed into one of mutual respect.

giyuu

Beneath his seemingly unemotional and aloof attitude, Giyu suffers from an inferiority complex which he developed since his participation in Final Selection. This self-doubt in himself reached the point where he contemplates abandoning his position as the Water Hashira until Tanjiro helps him realize that instead of acting on his survivor's guilt, he should cherish his life and live on for the people who sacrificed their lives for him.[13] This feeling of survivor's guilt strikes again when he believes Tanjiro has died after the fight against Muzan. Giyu, while he sheds tears, admits how he is always the one who is saved.

Despite his stoic nature, Giyu is shown to be protective and caring towards those he is close to and considers his friends. This is first shown when he puts his life on the line for Tanjiro and Nezuko by vowing to commit seppuku if the latter were ever to eat a human.[14] Giyu has been shown to lose his composure and usual stoic demeanor when those he cares about are in danger, as seen when he is greatly angered by Akaza's attempt to kill Tanjiro and visibly shocked when he hears the news of Shinobu's death.[15] This is further shown in the fact that he still wears half of Sabito, his late best friend's, and his older sister's haori as a memento of them. However, Giyu appears to be particular in who he shows emotions for, as he doesn't appear to react at all when informed of the passing of Genya Shinazugawa and Muichiro Tokito.

giyuu

As a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Giyu is a very powerful and skilled combatant.[16] From the beginning, Giyu showed how much he outclassed Tanjiro and his friends, being able to effortlessly capture Nezuko from him and later knocked both of them unconscious in a single blow. Later, he was able to easily defeat Father in his transformed state[17] and Rui, Lower Rank Five,[18] something Tanjiro and Inosuke respectively failed to accomplish. He also fought equally against fellow Hashira Sanemi Shinazugawa in a sparring match. Giyu was also shown easily beating dozens of demons equal to that of the Lower Ranks of the Twelve Kizuki. On top of his incredible skills as a Demon Slayer, Giyu is also a very capable teammate, able to grasp their intentions and work in tandem with it.

giyuu

Indomitable Will: Giyu possesses an undaunted will and indomitable will, never giving up despite suffering numerous injuries against Akaza, one of the strongest demons in existence and later on the Demon King, Muzan. Even when losing his arm, he still remained steadfast and managed to play an important role in defeating Muzan. When Tanjiro was turned into a demon, Giyu was the first to act in order to protect the survivors, and even when it seemed that Tanjiro was unable to be killed by any means, he was not phased and continued to fight.

Tactical Intellect: Giyu possessed great tactical intellect and sharp observation, always remaining calm, composed, and focused on analyzing the situation and reacting accordingly. When he initially fought Tanjiro, he was able to immediately understand Tanjiro’s strategy with his hidden hatchet throw. He has also displayed sharp critical thinking and accurate tactical analysis mid-battle, precisely determining and noting details with his keen observation. In his clash with Akaza, Giyu was able to keep pace during the high-speed battle, while critically noting the precision and accuracy of his techniques and instantaneous adaptation, and the intense overall nature of the Upper Rank. Additionally, Giyu also shows good survival skills; after fighting Akaza and bleeding profusely from his sustained wounds, Giyu lit a fire and heated his sword to cauterize his wounds. In his confrontation with Muzan, when Tanjiro tried to fight head on out of anger, Giyu advised the strategy of stalling the demon instead until allies arrived.

giyuu

During his fight against Upper Rank Three Akaza, he was able to hold on his own for some time, and similarly with Kyojuro, Akaza is amazed by Giyu's skills to the point that he offers to transform the Hashira into demon, something Akaza only asks of the most worthy of his opponents.[19] When he first manifested his mark, Giyu was able to momentarily overpower the Upper Rank demon as well, repeatedly cutting his arms, slicing his body and even cutting his neck. Akaza even states that he has not fought a Water Hashira as skilled as Giyu in fifty years.[20] When he encountered the Demon King Muzan Kibutsuji, Giyu was able to hold him off for a considerable amount of time along with Tanjiro and later played a pivotal role in his defeat. Moreover, after Tanjiro became a demon, Giyu was the first to act and fend him off, defending Zenitsu and a Kakushi while fighting evenly with him, long enough for him to be turned back to a human.[3]Demon Slayer Abilities Demon Slayer Mark: During his battle against Akaza, Giyu awakens his Demon Slayer Mark, appearing as a fluid-water like design on his left cheek, complementing his Breathing Style, Water Breathing.[21] When activated, he gains a tremendous increase in speed, precision, and endurance to the point where he could engage in a long battle against the Upper Rank.

Bright Red Nichirin Sword: During the fight against Muzan, Sanemi forcefully clashes his sword together with Giyu's turning both of their blades temporarily red,[22] which grants them the ability to hamper the enhanced regeneration of the Demon King, making their attacks much more effective and deadly.

giyuu

Immense Stamina & Endurance: Due to extremely harsh training, Giyu has attained incredible stamina and endurance. In his battle against Akaza, he managed to continue fighting even after sustaining dozens of injuries all over his body, severely weakening him, a feat which pleasantly surprised Akaza. Additionally, he was seen cauterizing his wounds by heating up his blade with a fire. During the final clash with the Demon King, Giyu managed to hold off Muzan despite initially being inflicted with his poisonous blood, and later still played a pivotal role in his defeat after his arm was cut off by helping Tanjiro turn his blade bright red. Even after the entire ordeal, when Tanjiro was transformed into a demon, Giyu still had enough energy left to fight him off for a brief period of time.[3] Giyu was also one of only two Hashira to survive the final battle in the end.Immense Speed & Reflexes: Giyu possesses inhuman speed and reflexes, as shown when he took Nezuko away from Tanjiro's grasps at blinding speeds, which took him several seconds to register.[23] Later, he was able to hoist and tie Inosuke up to a tree before he even realized what happened, causing him to remark that he's extremely fast.[24] Giyu also easily caught up to Shinobu when she was pursuing Tanjiro. In his battle with Lower Five, Giyu could cut all of Rui's threads so fast that it seemed like he didn't move his arms at all, and was later able to nonchalantly decapitate the demon in the moment he had blinked.[25] He was also able to keep up with Upper Rank Three, Akaza, who is one of the fastest demons in existence and when he awakened his mark, Giyu managed to surprise him several times and appeared to "teleport" even to Akaza. Giyu also managed to evade many of Muzan's attacks and negate them with his form Dead Calm.

giyuu

Immense Strength: As a Hashira, Giyu has honed his physical strength to beyond what is conceivable for human. Even since the first encounter with Tanjiro and Nezuko, he has displayed impressive feats of strength, such as swinging his blade with so much force that he caused an enormous gust of wind that knocked both Tanjiro and Nezuko back a far distance, holding down a berserk Nezuko with one hand effortlessly, and later knocking her unconscious in one strike to the neck. In his spin-off story, he could break extremely strong ropes tied around his wrists with ease while nonchalantly talking to Shinobu Kocho.

In his battle with Rui, he could nonchalantly slice through the demon's threads no matter what attack he used, and later able to cut through the Lower Rank's neck with ease, something even Tanjiro could not accomplish. During his battle in the Infinity Castle, Giyu was able to cut Akaza's body and limbs during a multitude of occasions, despite the fact that Akaza possesses one of the highest levels of durability among all demons. He could also turn his Nichirin Sword bright red through sheer force with the assistance of Sanemi, a feat which requires an absurd amount of grip strength to accomplish.Fighting Style Master Swordsman: Being a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Giyu is one of the most powerful and skilled swordsman in the entire organization.[26] Upper Rank Three, Akaza, who has fought countless swordsman in the past, was impressed with Giyu's skill, stating that he possesses finely developed swordsmanship.[27]

Breathing Style Water Breathing (水みずの呼こ吸きゅう, Mizu no kokyū?): A Breathing Style taught to him by the Water Hashira before him, Sakonji Urokodaki. As the Water Hashira, Giyu is his generation's most skilled Water Breathing user. Giyu has completely mastered this swordsmanship style, to the point that he created an entirely new technique within the Breathing Style and impressed Akaza who had fought Water Hashira in the past.

giyuu

Techniques First Form: Water Surface Slash (壱いちノ型かた 水みな面も斬ぎり, Ichi no kata: Minamo Giri?)[28] - The user generates enough momentum to create a powerful single concentrated slash. Second Form: Water Wheel (弐にノ型かた 水みず車ぐるま, Ni no kata: Mizu Guruma?)[29] - The user leaps and vertically spins forward in the air while releasing a flowing attack in a circular motion. Third Form: Flowing Dance (参さんノ型かた 流りゅう流りゅう舞まい, San no kata: Ryūryū Mai?)[30] - The user swings and bends their blade in a winding motion along with their body and dances in a flowing pattern, slicing everything in its path.

giyuu

Fourth Form: Striking Tide (肆しノ型かた 打うち潮しお, Shi no kata: Uchishio?)[31] - The user makes multiple consecutive slashes while twisting their body and sword in a flowing fashion to deliver multiple blows simultaneously. Fifth Form: Blessed Rain After the Drought (伍ごノ型かた 干かん天てんの慈じ雨う, Go no kata: Kanten no Jiu?)[32] - The user changes the grip on their sword and decapitates the opponent in a single flowing strike that causes little to no pain. It is a “sword strike of kindness” used when the enemy willingly surrenders. Sixth Form: Whirlpool (陸ろくノ型かた ねじれ渦うず, Roku no kata: Nejire Uzu?)[33] - The user fiercely twists their upper and lower body, creating a whirlpool of air that cuts anything caught in it. Its effect and efficiently is enhanced underwater, where the user can draw water around their weapon to enhance their slashes. Seventh Form: Drop Ripple Thrust (漆しちノ型かた 雫しずく波は紋もん突づき, Shichi no kata: Shizuku Hamon Tsuki?)[34] - The user performs a fast and accurate stab, capable of reducing the impact of a moving target. Eighth Form: Waterfall Basin (捌はちノ型かた 滝たき壼つぼ, Hachi no kata: Takitsubo?)[35] - The user cuts the target vertically in a flowing motion which is most effective when they are falling downward. Ninth Form: Splashing Water Flow (玖くノ型かた 水すい流りゅう飛沫しぶき, Ku no kata: Suiryū Shibuki?)[36] - The user changes their footwork in a way that minimizes the landing time and surface needed when landing, allowing the user to move without limits. Ideal when fighting in a place with no solid foothold. Tenth Form: Constant Flux (拾じゅうノ型かた 生せい生せい流る転てん, Jū no kata: Seisei Ruten?)[37] - The user performs a continuous flowing attack which seemingly takes the form of a water dragon that increases in strength and power with each rotation due to momentum.

giyuu

Eleventh Form: Dead Calm (拾じゅう壱いちノ型かた 凪なぎ, Jū Ichi no kata: Nagi?)[38] - A form of his own personal creation, the user ceases all body movements and enters a state of complete tranquility, deflecting, blocking and cutting any incoming attacks with imperceptible speed with his blade. However, its effectiveness is limited as fast and numerous attacks can break through.

the twelve demons

The Twelve Kizuki (十じゅう二に鬼き月づき, Jūnikizuki?, lit. Twelve Demon Moons) is an organization of the twelve most powerful demons in existence who are under the direct command of the Demon King, Muzan Kibutsuji. They also serve as the main antagonistic faction of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. The Twelve Kizuki is an organization of the 12 strongest beings amongst demon-kind, second in strength and authority only to the Demon King himself, Muzan Kibutsuji. Each member of the Twelve Kizuki has received a large portion of Muzan's blood, greater than any other demon, thus exponentially increasing their power.[1] As a testament to this, every member of the Twelve Kizuki can use Blood Demon Arts, supernatural powers and techniques manifested through their blood that only significantly powerful demons have access to.

some of the demons

The Twelve Kizuki are divided into two groups, the six Upper Ranks (上じょう弦げん, Jōgen?), numbered one through six, and the six Lower Ranks (下か弦げん, Kagen?), also numbered one through six. The number signifies their ranking among the Twelve Kizuki, determined by each member's level of strength, Upper Rank One being the strongest and Lower Rank Six being the weakest. The Lower Ranks have their numbers and ranks engraved only into one eye, whereas the Upper Ranks have their numbers in one eye and the kanji for "Upper Rank" (上じょう弦げん, Jōgen?) in the other.

While the exact relationships between the two groups are unclear, it is known that the Upper Ranks despise the Lower Ranks.[2The Upper Ranks each possesses a level of power that far surpasses that of the Lower Ranks; as proof of their strength, the strongest of the Demon Slayer Corps, the Hashira, have killed numerous Lower Ranks over the years, while the Upper Ranks have killed and eaten many Hashira. Kagaya Ubuyashiki states that it had been a hundred years since an Upper Rank has been killed following the defeat of Gyutaro and Daki.[3] Furthermore, it has been remarked by Shinobu Kocho that the strength of an Upper Rank demon is, at least, comparable to three Hashira,[4] although it should be noted that the capabilities of a Hashira vary from one to another, especially the ones who can manifest their Demon Slayer Mark to further augment their strength. While the Lower Ranks have been replaced countless times, the Upper Ranks did not change over 100 years at all.[5]

what demons must and listen to

When a member of the group is removed from the Twelve Kizuki, Muzan Kibutsuji demotes these members by slashing the pupils where the number signifying their rank is located, creating an "X" shaped scar over the digit, signifying that they are no longer part of the Twelve Kizuki. The only example of this happening is Kyogai, who had already reached his "limit" and could no longer consume human flesh. This gradually led to Kyogai losing his appetite for humans and beginning to lose the ability to evolve and become stronger. Therefore, he was deemed too weak to remain in his position of Lower Rank Six and subsequently removed.

After their most recent failure with the death of Rui, holder of Lower Rank Five, Muzan decided to dismantle the Lower Ranks completely. He ordered Nakime to summon each member to the Infinity Castle and proceeded to kill all of the Lower Ranks, sparing only Enmu, Lower Rank One, and giving him a chance to redeem himself by killing a Hashira and bringing him the head of Tanjiro Kamado.[6] With Enmu's death at the hands of Tanjiro, the Lower Ranks are functionally disbanded with all of their members dead,[7] and with Nakime's death at the hands of Muzan himself, the Upper Ranks are also functionally disbanded with all their members dead.[8]Mission The Twelve Kizuki have been given three tasks to complete by Muzan's command:

To find the Blue Spider Lily (the key ingredient of the experimental medicine that made Muzan a demon), but since Muzan's discovery (via Hantengu) that Nezuko Kamado is immune to the sun, he has decided that the Upper Ranks' first focus is to capture her and bring her to him. The destruction of the Demon Slayer Corps. As part of their Mission to destroy the Corps, Muzan gave the Twelve Kizuki specific orders to hunt down and eliminate the Ubuyashiki Family, as they are the Corps’s leaders and backers, and are ultimately what keeps the Corps alive and enables them to rebuild the organization again and again no matter how many

strengthen them in order to be of further use in his plans.

Moreover, Upper Rank demons have the authority to transform humans they view as worthy into demons by giving them blood, and upon receiving permission from Muzan, their blood will transform into his'. This is seen with Gyutaro's and Daki's case where Doma was able to turn the siblings into demons by giving them his blood. This is also seen with Kaigaku, where Kokushibo was also able to turn the Demon Slayer into a demon by giving him his blood.

As seen from the case with Rui, Muzan himself had given him special permission to form a large group of demons — despite his own law of forbidding them to team up together in large numbers — in order to satisfy his longing for a family. Showcasing that despite his paranoia of the possibility of other demons teaming up together in order to overthrow him, his favouritism for Rui exempted him from immediately executing him and his new "family" and allowing its existence.

Furthermore, Muzan was shown to have given Gyutaro and Daki the special privilege of sharing the position of Upper Rank Six. His favouritism towards Daki's older brother, Gyutaro, allowed her to also have the rank and share it with him despite her being notably weaker than him and the other Upper Ranks.

demon info 2

In the case of Akaza, he was given special permission by Muzan to not eat women. Akaza was noted by Doma to have an unusual aversion to eating or even hurting women despite the immense power he could gain by devouring them due to their stronger nutritional value to a demon's development. Despite his orders for all Twelve Members of the Group to continuously strive for more power by eating humans in mass to be of better use to him, Muzan actually gave Akaza special permission to not eat women and indulged his unusual quirk due to considering him to be one of his favorite Upper Ranks. Akaza was also noted to be only deployed by Muzan for special assignments and nothing else, further showing the favor he gives him as one of his favorites.
