Jade was initially raised by her Grandfather. When she and her grandfather began to colonize the island northeast of Australia, a package mysteriously appeared. Inside were a few pumpkin seeds and a blouse. When Jade was young, her Grandfather died due to a misunderstanding of human culture by the troll Tavros Nitram, who took control of Becquerel with his powers to redirect a bullet, which she accidentally shot herself, at her Grandfather. That way, leaving only her and her dog, Bec, on the island with no one else. After this, she was raised by Bec, her dog. During this stage she had trouble sleeping, which eventually went away. As she grew older, she became friends with John Egbert, Rose Lalonde, and Dave Strider through the Internet. Jade's house is a giant tower next to the volcano on her island, which was discovered by her Grandfather. It's full of high-tech gadgets that seem to have somehow originated from Prospit. His isolation could explain his lack of pop culture knowledge and enthusiasm.

Jade has a very peculiar personality, and often falls asleep and then wakes up without even remembering when she fell asleep. She knows absolutely nothing about her narcolepsy, probably never sleeps by choice, and only does so in her bed with Bec's help. She is forgetful and wears colorful reminder rings on her fingers. She is very brave and loving. She has been seen playing the flute, although in a bad and foolish way. However, she is an expert in the Bass Eclectic. She has an interest in old cartoons, Furry fandom, nuclear physics and advanced gadgets, and she is an expert marksman. She has proven herself to be very brave and resourceful. She cares deeply for her friends and pushed John's dream self out of the way of Prospit's Moon when it was about to crash onto the surface of Skaia. Additionally, he sent John a birthday gift that traveled through time to save him from his first encounter with Jack Noir. It turned out to be the bunny who had also made a long and complicated journey. She has proven to have a very excitable personality and also loves to express her pesters with large amounts of exclamation points and emoticons.

Jade has a pet dog named Becquerel, who is her guardian. Dave describes him as a "demon fucking beast" and that if he were Jade "he would take her behind the woodshed and blow her brains out," Jade said she couldn't accomplish such a task even if she tried and that their "peepholes would never point toward an innocent creature, anthropomorphologically persuaded or not." She apparently makes an exception for Bec, as she tries to shoot her during their Conflict, but Bec's reality-bending ability makes it impossible for Jade to cause her any harm. Either way, it seems she was just playing with him, since she ended up making Bec catch a bullet in mid-flight. Jade gets along well with the humans and some of the Trolls. Enjoy talking to troll Kanaya Maryam. Although she initially did not get along very well with the troll Karkat Vantas and was irritated by his moody and melodramatic behavior, she eventually grew to feel some affection for him. She rejected the romantic advances of troll Tavros Nitram, saying that she thought he was nice, but that they barely knew each other.

She has long black hair, wears round glasses and colorful rings on her fingers.
