Nagi is an unnaturally talented soccer player with amazing reflexes, good speed, and jumping skills, who is deep down a very lazy and unmotivated person. As long as Nagi can get a good job and continue living a relaxed life, he can do anything; he never had much drive. Despite starting out in soccer, he initially doesn't want to put in any effort, such as training, and looks down on those who are weak and untalented at the game. He doesn't even know much about the best soccer players in the world, much to the chagrin of his competitors. Initially, he is indifferent to playing soccer and becoming the best striker, preferring to play video games or skip training. After playing against Team Z at the end of the First Team and experiencing his first loss, Nagi begins to take more initiative and deal with the frustration of losing. He eventually begins to have motivations and is willing to explore these feelings only if necessary and this only happens because he notices that his friend and teammate, Reo Mikage, seems to be at a loss against Team Z. Despite his initially indifferent exterior, Nagi strives to improve his soccer skills as a result of his team's loss to Yoichi Isagi. This drive to improve follows him into later arcs, and even tarnishes a friendship because of it. By the time of the Neo Egoist League, beating Isagi is Nagi's most important driving force. Nagi seems to care about his friends and teammates, especially Reo Mikage, despite their relationship becoming strained from the Second Selection onward due to Reo's materialistic obsession with Nagi clouding his vision of their shared dream of winning the World Cup, but he is central. He is an egotist like some of Blue Lock's best players. He only cares about his ambition, his dream, and winning. Nagi tends to clash with anyone he doesn't like.

Creative Midfielder: Creative midfielders are players who can create goalscoring opportunities for the team, often in situations where nothing seems likely. They typically have good ball control, passing ability and movement, and will be blessed with vision and intelligence on the ball. With Nagi's perfect ball control, flexible movements, and technical skill, he is able to bring even the most difficult or desperate plays to life. He has single-handedly scored the most outrageous goals in Blue Lock due to this ability and continues to evolve into a creative playmaker. Nagi often comes up with new ways to deliver the ball, whether it be with his chest or with the toe, side or heel of his foot. What makes Nagi such a creative player is his ability to turn any type of pass into a potential attack. No matter the quality or attributes of the pass sent to him, he can effectively pass it into a dangerous area. This ability has been demonstrated on numerous occasions, most notably when he controlled Isagi’s difficult pass during the match against the Japan U-20 national team, using his heel to flick the ball towards the unmarked Isagi, over the heads of the U-20 defence.

Controls: Even before Blue Lock, Nagi had an exceptional ability at controlling, being able to catch a cell phone out of the air while jumping down a flight of stairs. This feat in itself was so impressive that Reo immediately recognized his talent for soccer and decided to make him his partner. He can control with his entire body, with lethal efficiency, constantly finding ways to turn a bad situation into a favorable one. Nagi has controlled the ball with his toes, heels, and even his back, demonstrating the versatility of his catching. He can control virtually any object, and often uses his control to manipulate and confuse his opponents when running down the field, which combines with his spatial awareness to place himself in the best possible spot for surprising controls and follow-up shots. After training in the Neo-egoist League, Nagi's controls have evolved, and he can control while being pressured by two defenders and control a high-powered close pass while moving at great speeds with ease.

Creative Control: When Nagi approaches the ball with a defender behind him, he can use his first touch to throw the ball over his shoulder and dodge it. Isagi described this as creative control, which brings a piece of work to life.

Black Hole Check: Alternatively, if Nagi isn't pressured by his opponent, he can use an absorbing check, trapping the ball in mid-air and killing its momentum. This gives him the time and space to set up his next move.

Controlled Shot: This is his most common ability, and he uses it frequently in his matches. Nagi first controls the ball, whether it's moving or not. From this point, he uses the ball's speed and momentum to manipulate it and execute a precise shot that breaks through the opposing team's defense and effortlessly scores a point.

Zero Reset Spin: While being pressured by multiple defenders, Nagi can hold them off while perfectly controlling an incoming ball and then instantly spin to turn the ball away from the defenders and charge through them, resetting the flow of the game mid-match.

Juggle Shot: After controlling a moving ball and giving it time in the air, Nagi can relax her body in the air, swing her legs around the ball, and kick it with extreme force, performing a monstrous volley shot.

Flow State (Incomplete): Flow, as described by Ego, is the state of "total immersion" or "being in the zone." It is the mental state in which a person engaged in an activity is completely immersed in a feeling of energized focus, total participation, and enjoyment in the process. Nagi has entered the Flow state numerous times in Blue Lock, sometimes intentionally and sometimes unintentionally, but he has yet to master it. His most impressive feat in the Flow state was the fake volley shot.

2-Stage Fake Volley Shot: First performed in the rematch between Isagi's White Team and Rin's Red Team, when Nagi was pressured to score and prove himself on the field in such a high-level match. Nagi starts by setting up a powerful shot from an incoming pass, but at the last second changes the angle of the shot to make the ball spin in the air. The speed of the ball's spin makes it float in place, allowing Nagi to follow up with a high-powered shot. Rin himself was unable to predict or counter the move and was good enough to provoke him into becoming serious. When Anri first saw it, she described it as a miracle, but Ego suggested it was a move made possible by the current state.

Five-Shot Revolver Fake Volley: Nagi first perfectly catches a pass that falls in front of him while giving him some air time and then instantly positions himself in shot form. He powerfully kicks the underside of the ball into the air killing its forward momentum and giving it a spin like his 2-Stage Fake Volley Shot, but instead of shooting it, he performs the fake volley again, giving the ball even more height in the air. Nagi performs a fake volley and juggles the ball in the air two more times to avoid defenders and then on the fifth attempt, Nagi leaps for the ball in the air and kicks it with extreme force, scoring a goal between two defenders and past the goalkeeper. The goal was so amazing that the combined defensive forces of Kaiser and Isagi were unable to stop it and the entire field watched in pure amazement and disbelief at the goal. On social media, the shot is described as the "goal of the century." Ego describes it as a goal that can never be recreated again.
