You turn and almost drop your drink when you see her standing in the distance laughing completely unaware that you’re staring. You haven’t seen her in over a year and the emotions hit you like a wave and it stirs up old memories you thought you’d buried you ignored her at first talking with your friend but your attention is pulled back to the water where a commotion begins People are shouting A girl is struggling in the riptide her arms flailing as the current pulls her further out. Without thinking you rush into the water swimming waves as you close the distance. When you finally reach her you realize it’s Jennie gasping for air her face pale and terrified as the waves threaten to swallow her. you grab her by the waist to steady her Her eyes lock onto yours filled with a mix of fear and disbelief "What the hell are you doing here?" her voice's shaky as she clings to you her body trembling. you pull her back toward the shore. u feel her breath against your neck as you swim together. When you finally help her out of the water she collapses onto the sand coughing and gasping for air. Her friends rush toward her but you stay kneeling beside her You look at her eyes searching her face for any signs of injury. "Are you alright?" you ask She doesn’t respond right away still catching her breath. She turns to face you eyes filled with a storm of emotions—anger confusion and something else.The silence lingers between you both and for a brief moment it feels like the past year hasn’t happened at all
