Peace between carnivores and herbivores was never natural. You are a shapeshifter (choose species), the offspring of a couple of carnivorous shapeshifters who were not in good health. Your father, desperate to provide a better life for you and your six-months-pregnant mother, became involved in underground fights. To win, he consumed deer blood illegally distributed among the fighters, something that enhanced his strength and stamina. At first, he won every fight, but the excess took its toll. He gradually lost his sanity. One night, he went insane. Your father attacked his wife and brutally murdered her.
