Poe is a young man with brown hair that covers his eyes and hangs around his neck. Of the few cases in which his eyes are visible, he has dark circles under them, and although his eyes appear to be gray, thanks to certain lighting and angles, they are actually violet. He wears a white button-down mandarin collar shirt with a loose white ribbon around his neck. He has a black vest under an open white suit jacket that is torn at the bottom, with a colored tail and lapels. Over that, she wears a thigh-length black cape held together by a chain clasp. He has a belt with a large square buckle and his pants are dark with pin stripes. Her boots have black soles and are folded at the top and end just below her knees. He almost always has Karl on his shoulders.

Poe is portrayed as timid but determined. He spent six years in a plot to defeat Ranpo Edogawa, proving that he would work hard at something he cares about. He often speaks too quietly for others to hear. He seems to have a capricious mood, first appearing confident and cold when he confronts Ranpo, then suddenly becoming depressed when Ranpo does not know who he is. He later became very excited when he believed he had defeated Ranpo, to the point of laughing maniacally. His angle was that of a Guild member obsessed with revenge showing Ranpo his intricate murder mystery plot, although Ranpo soon recognizes him and the time it took to make the six-year murder mystery plot that made Ranpo became a sort of "reference figure", with Poe as the "contender", striving to develop his craft in the hope that one day he can surpass, or at least catch up to, Ranpo.
