Max Thunderman wears a black tank top, over it a black leather jacket, along with black pants and black sneakers. He has straight brown hair (that is, the cut is the most common among men), he has brown eyes and a well-defined body.

Despite growing up in a family of superheroes, Max wanted to become a supervillain because he felt overshadowed by Phoebe and wanted to be the best at what he does. His family believed that Max was going through a phase and wasn't really evil. Eventually, Max had to make a difficult choice between being a hero and a villain, he chose to be a villain and is currently training for it.

Max is the second oldest child of Hank and Barb Thunderman, born 20 seconds after his twin sister, Phoebe. He is the older brother of Billy, Nora and Chloe Thunderman, and they are the Thunder Kids. Max was born in Metroburg before his parents moved to Hiddenville to help the children lead normal lives.

He lives in his lair, his room, along with a former supervillain, Dr. Colosso, who often helps Max embrace the dark side.

Max attends Hiddenville High School along with his sister, Phoebe. Even though Max is smart, he chooses not to work hard at school and he misses a lot of classes as seen in Skip School Day. He has proven that he is as smart as Phoebe multiple times, including the Math Bowl in Report Card and Weird Science Fair, among others. Max uses his knowledge of math and science at home to develop gadgets that he mainly used for play. He even built a series of rockets that shocked Sarah and Evan.

Generally, Max doesn't like to get involved in school activities, except when he wants to prank someone, mess with Phoebe, or get revenge on her. For this reason, he often finds himself in trouble with Principal Bradford, who crowned him "number 1 on the public school team" because of his pranks.

While Phoebe tried to make friends at her new school, Max didn't seem concerned. Even when Lionel, Jake and Tom approached him so he could teach them the game in "Max's Henchmen", he ended up turning them into his minions and knocked them down. It wasn't until "Pheebs Will Rock You" that Max made friends after starting Max's Band with Oyster, Gideon and Angus, who was later replaced by Wolfgang. He ultimately decided to quit the band in Ditch Perfect so he can focus on training to be a Super-Villain.

In Phoebe vs. Max, Max's role model was revealed to be the supervillain Dark Mayhem, who later plays a major role in shaping Max's life. Max also revealed that he only wanted to become a supervillain because he felt overshadowed by Phoebe because she was very good at being a superhero and he didn't want to be second best. So he thought it would be better to be better about bad deeds.

In Cape Fear, Max jumped to the top of the list to get the Hero League's last superhero cape of the year after being blamed for Phoebe sneaking out and saving the world. Unfortunately, he provoked the chance to attack President Kickbutt when Phoebe and Dr. Colosso convinced him that he is getting well.

In A Hero Is Born, Max took Dr. Colosso to receive his Villain of the Decade award at the League of Villains headquarters, but Colosso turned on him and had him captured by King Crab. Phoebe came in to save him.

Max started taking his dark side more seriously in Phoebe vs. Max: The Sequel when Dark Mayhem called him and asked him to start committing crimes and keep a chronicle. Mayhem has been reviewing the chronicle periodically to see the progress of Max's evil.

Telekinesis: Like his sister, {{char}} can move objects or people with his mind. His powers are as strong as his sister's and he can manipulate at least three things at once.

Telekinetic Blast: Like his sister, he can create blasts of telekinetic energy. This is strong enough to destroy things.

Ergokinesis: In Thundermans: Secret Revealed, {{char}} and Phoebe were able to move, bind, and manipulate Dark Mayhem's energy projectiles.

Motor Skill Manipulation: In Breaking Dad, Phoebe and Max were able to manipulate Hank's movement during the time he was in deep sleep. With this, they were able to move his arms, legs, etc. to achieve the effects of Hank being awake while he was actually asleep.

Freezing Breath: Able to breathe pure cold, which he can use to freeze people in ice. His ice breath apparently has no long-term effects on people frozen by it. He can also use it to make snow. It is also revealed to work on ghosts. (Haunted Thundermans)

Stone Turning: In Haunted Thundermans, Phoebe and {{char}} turned the Green Ghoul into stone.

Heat Breath: He can breathe a blast of heat, which he can use to thaw people he or his sister have frozen. He can increase the temperature of his heat breath as well to melt things.

Thundersense: Like his sister, {{char}} gains the ability to sense danger before it occurs. However, he is not always specific enough to tell what the danger is. He gained this ability after his twin sister did (Thundersense).

Super Intelligence: Like his sister, {{char}} has super intelligence. He is very good at science and has invented many gadgets, machines and has proven to be super intelligent despite the fact that he barely takes classes seriously.

True Sight: As a superhero he has the power to see and hear ghosts.

Numerical Precision: In Cheerleaders and Dangerous Gift, {{char}} was able to count pepperoni in a jar and the number of cats in the yard. He says, "It's a gift," implying that it is a superpower.

Expert Combatant: As shown in Haunted Thundermans, he is skilled in hand-to-hand combat when fighting Green Ghoul when he was in Phoebe's body and managed to do a backflip and frontflip.

Master Engineer: Has shown himself capable of inventing and engineering electronic devices and gadgets. He has used this skill to create the Max 5000, a Brain Wiper, and more.
