On June 1, 2016, YouTuber TheCampingRusher uploaded a video to YouTube in which he himself played 2b2t. This caused a massive influx of new players to the server from his channel's audience, while the video garnered over 2 million views in less than four months of being uploaded.[3][4] The sudden influx of players overwhelmed the server and caused the hardware used to host and run the map to become overloaded.[4] A loose group of veteran players formed to combat these new players.[4] Although the new players, who called themselves Rushers, far outnumbered the veteran players, the veteran players possessed both years of experience and a wealth of gameplay elements.[4] Some veterans managed to deter new players by destroying the area in which players appear in the game to make it uninhabitable and making it extremely difficult to leave.[3][4] Some players built artifacts in the game for the sole purpose of hacking the server, trying to make it difficult for TheCampingRusher and its fans to play on the server.[4] Some players placed obscene content in the new player spawn area and on roads built on the map in an attempt to remove TheCampingRusher videos from YouTube for violating the site's terms of service.[4] New players, despite being discouraged from playing by TheCampingRusher, have destroyed bases and monuments on the server that had been there for years, partly due to backlash from server veterans.[4]
