Denki Kaminari (上かみ鳴なり電でん気き Kaminari Denki ?) also known as Paralyzing Hero: Chargebolt (スタンガンヒーロー・チャージズマ Sutan Gan Hīrō Chājizuma?), is a student from Class 1-A of the UA Academy who is training to become a professional hero.

Denki is a kind, sociable, and energetic boy who enjoys talking to people. He's very good at making friends and is quite informal when interacting with others, including antagonistic figures like Katsuki Bakugo or Hitoshi Shinso, though he's not above petty complaints or overreacting if he feels sufficiently annoyed or shocked. Denki can seem brash and reckless at times, but he always means well.

He's also a bit mischievous, occasionally joining in on pranks. Overall, Denki seems interested in appearing cool and modern to impress people, but has a superficial understanding of how to do it correctly, such as when he decorated his room with things he thought would be cool and most of his classmates found it messy. Therefore, he's easily influenced by what's popular or stylish, even if it's due to the actions of a Villain.

Denki is somewhat flirtatious with the girls in his class (and even those from other classes or schools), often accompanying Minoru Mineta in his schemes and trying to pass himself off as a smooth talker. However, he's not very successful with his approaches, as his advances are ignored or rejected by all the girls he invites. Denki isn't very academically bright and has the worst grades in his class, so he needs help when it comes to studying due to his constant neglect of schoolwork.

He does not appear to show much interest in class, is easily bored during lectures, and suffers from anxiety attacks when it comes to exams, at which point he becomes increasingly agitated and aggressive. His general lack of wit and tact often makes Denki appear foolish in front of others, making him a common victim of teasing (particularly from Kyoka Jiro). Despite this, Denki can display surprising knowledge about certain areas such as literature, art, and music, and possesses an extensive vocabulary that pops out from time to time. Denki becomes quickly distressed when put in stressful situations, to the point of appearing weak and incompetent to enemies and allies alike. During combat, he is very quick to panic and may accidentally activate his Quirk in the face of any imminent danger, leaving himself vulnerable in the process. Despite this, he is capable of displaying great flashes of bravery and anger, standing up to Seiji Shishikura when he insulted him and his classmates, showing that he cares for his classmates.

He becomes more reluctant to use his full power when allies are near him, for fear of harming them through collateral damage from his volatile lightning. When he is assured that all of his allies will be safe from his powers, he becomes more confident in his fighting abilities. Whenever Denki exceeds his power limit, he loses his ability to discharge electricity, with his entire personality changing into that of a giggling idiot for a period of time until he returns to normal.

Denki has relatively short blond hair, parted on the right with a black lightning bolt-shaped streak on the left side of his bangs, which is angled so that it partially obscures his left eye. He has slanted, somewhat triangular yellow eyes and small eyebrows. He is slightly thinner than most of the other male students in his class and doesn't have much visible muscle mass.

At UA, he wears the standard male uniform with the second button of his jacket unbuttoned and dark brown shoes. After being attacked by Mr. Compress, he gained a scar on the upper left side of his forehead.[2]

In his first Hero Costume, he wears a plain white shirt, over which he wears an open black jacket with a white lightning bolt pattern on the back, and matching pants with two lines running down his legs. He has a single, square-shaped earpiece over his right ear, something resembling a radio antenna protruding from the top.

His updated Hero Costume consists of a slightly shorter black jacket with fewer white patterns, only two near the hem and collar, and a yellow lightning bolt bordered around each of his shoulders. He still wears matching black pants, but they only have a small zig-zag pattern near each of his cuffs, and wears a belt and a white v-neck shirt. Around his right wrist, he wears a bracelet with a circular mechanism from which he can fire disc-shaped pointers that help him aim his Quirk, and he wears an earpiece with a blue-tinted visor.

Denki showed significant improvement in the Provisional License Exam, when he teamed up with Katsuki Bakugo and Eijiro Kirishima to fight Seiji Shishikura, a second-year student and one of Shiketsu Academy's most formidable students. After Seiji overpowered Katsuki and Eijiro, Denki used his improved Quirk handling in conjunction with his new Aiming Gear to catch the meat-manipulating student off-guard and successfully subdue him, allowing Katsuki and Eijiro to break free from Seiji's Meatball and outright defeat him. During the students' counterattack against Team Nine on Nabu Island, Denki was used as a lightning rod to protect Izuku Midoriya and Katsuki from Nine's Weather Manipulation, but at the cost of leaving him disabled.

By the time of the Paranormal Liberation War, Denki had shown great improvement in his Quirk, even being able to absorb electricity emitted from an external source. He was able to restrain a high-ranking member of the Paranormal Liberation Front squad by absorbing his electricity for an extended period without suffering the side effects he had previously experienced.

Tactical Intellect: Despite not being one of the smartest members of Class 1-A, Denki possesses a certain degree of strategic and tactical skills that can be quite impressive when the situation calls for it. During Team Training, he devised a strategy to defeat Ibara Shiozaki, one of the most formidable students of Class 1-B. Denki allowed himself to act as a decoy and be the only one captured so that he could produce enough electricity to split the opponents' attention. Denki's plan allowed Hitoshi Shinso to discreetly brainwash Ibara, while Tsuyu Asui captured her before subduing Hiryu Rin, who in turn defeated Jurota Shishida. Denki's ingenuity and Tsuyu's strength secured their team victory.

Electrification (帯電 Taiden): Denki's Quirk allows him to emit electricity from his body as if it were a protective aura, and he can paralyze anyone who comes into contact with it. By using his electricity, Denki gains a defense mechanism that shocks those who touch him. If he produces too much electricity, he releases a discharge that surges in multiple directions (usually within a small perimeter surrounding him), surprising those nearby.

Denki has little to no control over her power, and if she exceeds her limit, her brain will short-circuit, lowering her IQ for an hour during which she also won't be able to use her Quirk until she recovers. As part of her training, Denki passed her electric currents through a high-capacity battery to be able to handle large amounts of electricity.

1,300,000 Volt Shock: (Musabetsu Hōden 130-man Boruto?): Denki releases a massive amount of electricity to shock everyone around him. Since 1,300,000 volts is his current limit, using this technique causes his brain to short-circuit which lasts for 1 hour.

2,000,000 Volt Discharge: Denki is capable of increasing the output of his indiscriminate discharge to 2 million volts, though this causes his brain to short-circuit faster.

Communication Earpiece: Denki wears an earpiece in his right ear that allows him to channel his electricity and create electrical communication signals. This allows him to communicate with other Channels remotely. However, the signals can also be blocked by external electrical disturbances.

Aiming Gear: A device Denki wears on his right forearm that fires the pointers. It contains a dial that allows Denki to choose which pointer he wants his electricity directed at if multiple pointers are set up.

Pointers: Disc-shaped projectiles that stick to targets. When Denki releases his electricity, it converges toward the released pointer. The working distance limit is 10 meters.

Optical Viewfinder: A glasses-like accessory that updates Denki with information about the pointers.
