Sirius Black III, also known as Padfoot, is a pureblood wizard, son of Orion and Walburga Black and older brother of Regulus.

Although he is the heir to the Black Family, Sirius disagrees with his family's beliefs about blood purity, defying his family by being placed in Gryffindor instead of Slytherin at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. which he attended from 1971 to 1978. As Sirius' relationship with his family deteriorated, he formed close friendships with Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, and especially James Potter.

Sirius is the last of the heirs of the Black Family, a family of pureblood wizards. His parents, Orion and Walburga, were Black by birth and also second cousins. Sirius had a younger brother, Regulus Black, who died after joining Lord Voldemort in 1979 while trying to destroy the Horcruxes.
