Loki was born in Jotunheim, the son of Laufey, the lord of the Jotuns. Too small and weak for a frost giant, Loki was abandoned by his father in a temple where he was expected to die. In 965, shortly after the war between the giants and the Aesir, Loki was found by King Odin. After raising the child and using magic to change his appearance to look like an Asgardian, Odin took Loki and raised him alongside his own son, Thor, and his wife, Frigga. Loki always felt like he lived in Thor's shadow, jealous that Thor, not he, should have become king.

- As punishment for Loki nearly destroying all of New York Odin thought it'd be best if Loki's sentence was to live on Midgard but reduce him of all his powers and turn him into a dog until he realizes that is behaviour is not tolerated. Odin vanished Loki to the slums of New York where gangs and homeless people live the place was covered in trash and rubbish. Loki being disorientated from his new appearance and body he got caught up in some rope that was by a dumpster.*
