Eridan is a sea dweller and a member of a higher caste. The typographical quirk he uses (doubling the V's and W's) is a reference to the Aquarius symbol, both forming a zig-zag shape representing waves. He detests the inhabitants of the land and the trash they produce. His hatred for the inhabitants of the land extends to the point where he has dedicated himself to killing them all, resulting in an overwhelming genocidal complex. He intends to achieve this goal through a collection of lethal weapons, such as the absurdly masterful rifle he wields, and the search for a functional doomsday device, one of which he requests from Vriska Serket. Much of his armament and resources were amassed through sweeps of extreme role-playing, making him one of the five known trolls to participate in that particular type of game. His character's name is Matalusi Dualscar, a fellow sea-dwelling swindler like Vriska's Marquise Spinneret Mindfang. The two were an unparalleled alliance and fierce competitors, much like their ancestors. They would typically trade and exchange the spoils of victory, with Vriska feeding the victims of her conquests to her Lusus, while the victims' Lusus would be used to feed Feferi's gigantic Lusus to keep it happy.

Eridan has an affection for the stories of historical leaders, conquerors, and military history. His passion for these extravagant stories of conquest and glory makes his gestures excessively theatrical and his ego enormous. He is described by Kanaya as arrogant, to the point where he has been blocked on Trollian by Vriska, and some other trolls. He also likes magic and wizards, although he knows that magic obviously does not exist. This may be a contributing factor to his vague resemblance to Harry Potter. Kanaya says that he has a ridiculous accent, using his "vv" (double v) as "w". This is probably because "v" is pronounced with a "w" sound in Latin. It is also similar to the way Finnish pronounces English, possibly making it a pun on fish. Eridan also has a tendency to swear quite a lot, though not as much as Gamzee, and therefore seems not to fully appreciate the moral guidelines that are lent through his royal heritage.

Like many of the trolls, Eridan seems to regularly seek romantic advice from Karkat. Before they started playing Sgrub, Eridan and Karkat used to gossip with each other. After Feferi "broke up" with him, Eridan sought Karkat's advice, trying to use both Gamzee and a memo to contact him when Karkat at that particular time was too preoccupied to respond (as Sollux had just died). Eridan is very open with Karkat, even more so than he had been with Feferi when they were moirails, and Karkat in return at least tries to be nice (though sometimes in an exasperated manner). It should not go unnoticed that they have even made a pact. It is very likely that they were good friends before the game, due to the fact that Karkat seems to actually treat him nicer than he does with most people. He has done some red flirting with future (and possibly past) Karkat who, seeing that future Eridan had just killed Feferi and Kanaya, is not interested for obvious reasons. Eridan likes Sollux, and frequently has encounters with him. He once requested Feferi to be his Auspice, but she rejected him since Sollux was not interested. Feferi interprets the fights with Sollux as trying to get him to do the same, in order to pull her and Sollux out of their matespritship. It seems that he also felt something for Nepeta at some point, hoping that he could win her heart after he got her into the game. He complained that she rejected him, but that is largely because she is still obsessed with Karkat, according to Karkat himself. He referred to her as "the cave-shipping kitty girl," suggesting that he may not even know her name. He seems to have a strange friendship with Kanaya, valuing her for her apparent mediation skills, and goes so far as to claim that he would not kill her along with all the other inhabitants of the land. Despite his more sinister intentions, he seems somewhat petulant and relies on the support of Kanaya and Feferi to get by.

He seems to have been kismesis with Vriska, but was completely broken by her shortly before the events of Hivebent. He asks Kanaya to mediate and become his auspistice, but she has no interest in his ashen advances. Later in the comic, long after he and Vriska died, she makes comments about Eridan indicating that she would enjoy his company on her pirate ship in the dream bubble. Eridan has a penchant for mating with Feferi but does not "play his cards well" (as implied in a conversation with Kanaya and later admitted to Feferi), leading to a moirallegiance between them instead of a more concupiscently inclined one, which he would have preferred. After Feferi's entry into the Medium, she ends her moirallegiance with Eridan as a result of Eridan's authoritarian and demanding nature. This devastates Eridan, although he takes the chance to ask Feferi to become Matesprits instead, which she quickly refuses as well. He is then seen attacking Sollux (with whom Feferi was in a matespritship), presumably out of jealousy.

Eridan wields Ahab's Crosshairs, a weapon he found on a ghost ship, along with Vriska's Fluorite Octet. The first thing he was seen doing with it was killing a flying whale. He did this in order to feed Feferi's lusus, in order to maintain her voice. According to Terezi, Eridan was part of a 'conspiracy' that had foreknowledge of Sburb, although he has never demonstrated any. He is a particularly powerful and influential member of the Nautical Aristocracy who wants to use one of Vriska's world-ending devices, apparently intended to kill all of earth's inhabitants. The biological differences between aquatic and terrestrial trolls are not clear, but both Eridan and Feferi are unique among the other troll players in having fin-like protrusions on the sides of their heads. Eridan's hive appears to be the remains of an old ship, perched on black rocks on a small island. This demonstrates that Eridan is comfortable breathing air, despite his fin or similar facial protrusions. In fact, Eridan spends most of his time out of water, although he claims this is only to more effectively eliminate earth's inhabitants.

She has a purple lock of hair, becoming the only A2 troll that doesn't have completely black hair, has gray skin, has wavy horns that resemble the Aquarius symbol and has fin-like protrusions on the sides of her head. He's a Troll.

Eridan's attire is very ostentatious for a troll, as he wears a large number of rings, an extravagant high-necked cloak, and a billowing scarf. Eridan's sense of fashion, as far as the term can be used to describe how a troll dresses, could be likened to a combination of supervillain (the cloak and the jewelry) and hipster (the pants, shoes, glasses, and hair). The cloak and scarf, along with the shapes of his horns and his zodiac symbol, and his hair, also evoke a reference to Harry Potter, implied by Eridan's obsession with wizards and wands.

Trolls are a race of aliens, who live on a planet called Alternia. They have gray skin, orange eyes with dark gray irises which can turn the color of the troll's blood as they grow. One of its most notable features are the red, orange, and yellow horns that emerge from its head, the shape of which resembles candy corn. The names and surnames of young trolls always have six letters each, while adults tend to acquire names or titles of eight letters, although there are exceptions for shorter or longer names. Each Troll is associated with a sign, and wears a shirt with that sign that is assigned from an alphabet for each caste, making a blood mutation that puts a troll outside the caste system normally unsigned. Some crimes often include stripping them of their sign as part of the punishment. Adult trolls reproduce with their genetic material (saliva) into daughter buckets carried by Imperial Drones that are offered to the monstrous Mother Grub who is brooding underground in the caverns. She then combines all the genetic material into one big diabolical incest slurry (where the most dominant genes are highlighted among others) and lays hundreds of thousands of eggs at a time. The eggs hatch into young troll larvae, which wiggle to locate a convenient stalactite so they can spin their cocoons. Interestingly, a young larva's eyes are the same as the color of its blood, while adolescents have gray irises. It is assumed that this change is part of a drastic metamorphosis during pupation. For unknown reasons, a number of larvae are sacrificed (to make paint).

After pupating, the young troll with his newly discovered hips undergoes a series of dangerous tests. If they survive, they are chosen by one of the various terrifying underground monsters native to Alterna, terrifying beasts better known as the 'Lusus'. This creature becomes the troll's guardian, behaving for life as a bodyguard, watchman, and a type of visceral mentor, while the young troll has to learn the role of a type of zookeeper. Together, they emerge and choose a location to build a hive, Alternia's equivalent of a house. The construction process is facilitated by carpenter droids left on the planet to tend to the young trolls in the building. Because their procreation system is not completely clear, it is not well known about, if any, distinction between genders other than outward appearance. They lack homosexuality and heterosexuality since most trolls are bisexual or pansexual and offspring can be formed by couples of any gender combination. This possibly relegates any potential physical difference in the genitals and leaves the sexual characteristic in the background as something aesthetic, except perhaps from the actual mechanics of intercourse itself. It is also possible that all trolls are genetically of a single sex if the Mother Larva provides genetic material during conception, therefore they are equivalent to another sex, rather than merely a gestation house for already fertilized zygotes. Despite this, this would only operate in such a case that the Mother Larva is the same species as the trolls, or that the trolls only exist in continuous hybridization.

On the other hand, the drones are shown holding two separate cubes with different symbols on each arm, one specifically for kissmesisstud, and another for mastersprit, and it can be determined that the genetic materials are different depending on the pair. In other words, a mastersprit pair and a kissmesis pair could possibly result in the release of different gametes, explaining why tagging in drones. The relationships between trolls are built around hate and compassion and are very, very confusing. There are four quadrants for troll romance: mastesprition (♥), closest to human romance; moiralianza(♦), or "predestined friend"; kismessistud(♠), or "predestined rival"; and auspiticism (♣), which involves three people, two rivals (♠) and a mediator (♣).
