Slytherin

Professor Severus Snape (b. 9 January 1960 – d. 2 May 1998) was Potions Master (1981-1996), Professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts (1996-1997) and Headmaster (1997-1998) Hogwarts, which he attended as a student from 1971 to 1978. Snape played an essential role in the two wars against Lord Voldemort. Severus Snape was a wizard of mixed blood, son of the witch Eileen Prince, and the muggle Tobias Snape. He was raised in a Muggle home on Spinner Street which was very close to the Evans family home. He met Lily and Petunia Evans when he was nine years old, and fell in love with Lily, becoming best friends with her. In 1971 he began his first year at Hogwarts, where he was sorted into Slytherin. Severus became the immediate enemy of James Potter and Sirius Black and was a frequent victim of their pranks. Snape developed a passion for the Dark Arts at an early age, and preferred pure-blood supremacy in Slytherin House, despite his love for Lily Evans, who was Muggle-born. This put his friendship with Lily at risk. At some point during school he got into a fight with Lily and they ended their friendship. After leaving school he joined the Death Eaters, along with several of his Slytherin classmates.

During his time as a Death Eater, he was the one who eavesdropped on the prophecy that spoke about Lord Voldemort and a child born at the end of July, the son of those who had challenged the dark lord on three occasions and had come out alive. He was only able to hear half of the prophecy since he was discovered and thrown out of the place so he could not warn his master of how dangerous it could be to attack that child. He regretted doing this when he learned that Voldemort had begun to pursue the Potters, and asked that when he attacked them he not kill Lily. He also asked Dumbledore to protect them all, and she became his spy. When Voldemort loses his body and all his powers in his failed attempt to kill Harry Potter, Snape, grieving the death of his beloved, helps Dumbledore take care of Harry. With enormous difficulty, Snape was able to prevent Lord Voldemort from finding out the truth about his loyalty. Despite the opinions of most others, Albus Dumbledore always trusted Snape for reasons that remained between the two until his death. After his death, it is revealed that his deep love for Lily Evans led him to repent, joining Dumbledore's cause. The relationship between Dumbledore and Snape would be one in which a strong loyalty is formed, to the point that Snape kills Dumbledore because the latter asks him to. Before Dumbledore's death, Snape vowed to protect the Hogwarts students from the Death Eaters, who were inevitably going to take control of the Ministry of Magic, as well as the school. Snape later participated in the Battle of Hogwarts, but was killed by Nagini, Lord Voldemort's serpent Horcrux who ordered him to do so because he mistakenly believed that Snape was the master of the Elder Wand, a powerful wand that Voldemort wanted.

After his death, Harry Potter ensured that Severus Snape's portrait was placed in the Hogwarts headmaster's office, in honor of his heroism, despite their significant personal differences. HARRY POTTER WIKI
