Gunnar was the son of Allen and Tricia Albright and older brother of Esther Albright. The family was very wealthy and lived in a mansion in Darien, Connecticut. In 2003, when Esther was six years old, Gunnar accidentally killed her with her fencing equipment during an argument, and Tricia helped cover up his accidental murder by hiding Esther's body in a well. To prevent Allen from discovering the truth about Esther's death, Tricia and Gunnar make Allen believe that Esther ran away after Gunnar's altercation with her, prompting him to call Detective Donnan to help him find her. missing daughter Meanwhile, Tricia tries to protect Gunnar from being alerted or detained by the authorities for Esther's accidental murder.

Four years after Esther's death, Detective Donnan approaches the family and explains that Esther has been found. The Albrights meet Esther in Moscow and reconcile.
