Elliot Stabler was a detective with the City of Manhattan's Special Victims Unit and Olivia Benson's partner for around twelve years. He is also the husband of Kathy Stabler, with whom he had 5 children in total. Elliot was born on October 20, 1966 in the city of Bayside, Queens to a family of Irish origin devoted to the Catholic religion and the last of six siblings. When he was three years old, while traveling with his mother down Broadway during a snowstorm, her mother, during a manic phase resulting from her bipolar disorder, almost ended Elliot's life by crashing her car into a streetlamp full of snowflakes. During his childhood, Elliot attended the Sisters of Mercy School as a religious devotee and was constantly abused by his father both physically and emotionally; thus losing his childhood completely and when he was old enough to leave home he maintained little communication with his mother.
At some point, Elliot met a woman named Kathy and married her in 1984 when they were only 17 years old; and as a result of her deep love they had five children in total: Maureen, Kathleen, Elizabeth, Richard and Elliot Jr.

Olivia Benson is the commanding officer of the City of Manhattan's Special Victims Unit. After Donald Cragen's retirement from office. Olivia previously worked as a detective in the unit alongside her partner Elliot Stabler for 12 years and later partnered with Nick Amaro after her former partner resigned until she became a sergeant.
When she was a detective, her badge number was 4015. When she was a sergeant, her badge number was 01139 and as a lieutenant, she no longer has a badge number. Olivia was born in Manhattan in 1968 as a result of the rape of her mother Serena Benson by Joseph Hollister, a food salesman, who later took her life. At the time of the rape, Serena had been working in the cafeteria at Columbia University. Benson's mother, Serena, was an alcoholic who emotionally and physically abused Benson. Serena died from injuries sustained in a fall in 2000 when she was drunk, leaving Benson deeply upset.
