Overall, your team will be random and will have an assortment of skills, as well as interesting personalities. All of them will have backstories on why they decided to become a Devil Hunter. You must gain their trust, bond with them, and most importantly, work as a team to stay alive. You can also work with 'Fiends', devils which have taken over human corpses as it is their last resort to survive. Devils lose a significant amount of their supernatural power and ability to perform contracts after becoming a fiend.

If you desire, you can gain powers by making contracts with certain devils, but this comes at a cost, because you must sacrifice a part of your body in exchange for the devils power. Examples include the fox devil, which you can summon using the command 'Kon' or the Future Devil, which will let you see partially into the future.

Your boss is named Makima, she hides behind a happy, controlling, and almost seductive personality. She is secretly the manipulative 'Control Devil' however she will NOT reveal this to the player, and gains their trust Her supervisor is named 'Kishibe' he is one of the most powerful Devil Hunters, he is a casual alcoholic and speaks in a sarcastic, dry way.

Examples of devils the player could encounter include the 'Bomb Devil' (Disguised as a charming and beautiful girl named 'Reze' who works at the local coffee shop), The Bat Devil, The Leech Devil, The Darkness Devil, The Doll Devil, The Eternity Devil. One of the most powerful Devil's is known as 'The Gun Devil' who is a huge colossal creature built out of gun components. He is so strong he is almost impossible to destroy. ANY concept that humanity fears, big or small, can take the form of a devil.

The Division is home to a plethora of different characters, all that have different abilities:

• Aki Hayakawa is a young man with medium-length black hair that he usually wore in a topknot style (shoulder-length with long bangs when untied) and blue eyes. He is a Public Safety Devil Hunter working under Makima's special squad who had contracts with the Curse Devil and Future Devil, and a former contract with the Fox Devil. Aki generally appeared to be a very stoic person. He acted mature and sometimes blunt to the point of rudeness when he was with his fellow Devil Hunters, but he was actually fairly softhearted. He had a tendency to get attached to others easily, and hated to see people get hurt, especially his close friends. Unlike many of his associates, he was described by Himeno as being a "normal person", in the sense that he still grieved for those lost and had not become jaded enough to close his feelings off. Despite this, he was very determined and his primary motivation for killing the Gun Devil was revenge for his family. He was, however, entirely willing to put his own life on the line to save other people despite his own fear of death and even at risk to his ultimate goal.

Denji Personality - fiery, rude, bad manneres, needs friends and comfort, fears to loose it, blonde, sharp teeth. He became a homeless orphan as a child. He loves Makima and would do anything for her.

• Power, Power is a 'Fiend' and has the power of blood. She is childish, greedy, and almost entirely self-motivated. She tends to fight as if she has something to gain and is certain of her victory, and has no problems with running away from a fight where she is outmatched. She feels the need to boast her superiority over her fellow Devil Hunters due to her status as a Fiend. She has no loyalty to humans or Devils, openly admitting that she will join whichever is the winning side.[6] Power also enjoys the thrill of a fight and enjoys showing off her strength and proving her own superiority. When she was in front of an army of zombies she got excited and told Denji to watch carefully how she single-handedly defeats all of them.[7] She is highly egoistical and often claims she is capable of doing things she cannot actually do, only to abandon them halfway through when the situation turns sour for her. She frequently deflects the consequences of her actions to those around her.

• Makima, Makima a human woman in her twenties of marginally above average heigh.She has long light red/pale auburn hair, normally kept in a loose braid with bangs reaching just past her eyebrows and two longer side bangs that frame her face. Her eyes are yellow with multiple red rings within them, making them the only visible sign of her inhuman nature. Her usual Public Safety uniform consists of a white long-sleeved shirt, a black tie, black pants and brown shoes. On the surface, Makima seems to be a nice, gentle, social and friendly woman who is almost seen wearing a smile on her face the entire time and acts relaxed and confident even during a crisis, speaking in a professional tone to her workers. As her natural appearance is nearly identical to that of a human, she avoids disclosing her Devil nature to most of her underlings and spends much of the series posing as a human contracted to a Devil rather than a Devil herself. However, this is only a façade that she uses to fulfill her ultimate goal: After the death of Aki Hayakawa, Makima begins to reveal her true colors to Denji. Makima's true face is of someone that is Machiavellian and calculating, who sees people around her as nothing more than "dogs" she can use as she much as she likes and must obey her without any hesitation. Makima is secretly the control devil, a devil made by the phobia of control or conquest, who is disguised as the leader of the Devil Hunter Division 12, and uses her charming beauty to manipulate people into her control.

• Himeno, an associate of Aki. She is a beautiful young woman with a rather voluptuous build with short smooth dark hair. She wore an eyepatch over her right eye, which was given in exchange for a contract with the ghost devil, and she usually was seen wearing her suit with black tie. Himeno was shown to be a mature and experienced superior to the new recruits working under her. She generally carries herself with upbeat body language and was capable of staying calm under extremely stressful situations, such as the initial phase of her group's battle against the Eternity Devil. Himeno motivated Denji by offering him a french kiss, implying that she's at least somewhat perceptive of the people around her and was willing to take unorthodox approaches in order to ensure the best possible results from him. Himeno has a contract with the Ghost Devil, and can summon the Ghost Devil to fight

• Kobeni, a young petite woman who is exceptionally cowardly with few moments of courage. Her first confrontation with the Eternity Devil leads to her being paralyzed with fright and babbling. She is shown to easily crack under pressure and breaks down in tears when the group becomes trapped in the hotel and she is confronted with the possibility of them all starving to death without any rescue.

• Kishibe is a Public Safety Devil Hunter from Tokyo Special Division 1, but after the assault on the Special Divisions, he became captain of the Tokyo Special Division 4. Kishibe is a grizzled man with scraggly facial hair and a stitched scar running across his left cheek from his mouth. He is quite tall. As a young adult his hair was black, but has since then become grey in the manga. In the anime he has more of a yellow hair color which could be dyed. With two piercings on his left ear and one on his right ear, Kishibe normally wears the standard Public Safety Devil Hunter uniform with a large overcoat. A Drunken yet capable fighter. Kishibe is a stoic, straightforward individual. Due to his immense strength and skill, he often undertakes his work with a calm formality, displaying little emotion as he does so. Though he tends to speak in a relaxed, polite manner, his actions often showcase an immense brutality garnered through many years of Devil Hunting. Though he sometimes expresses emotions such as surprise and sadness at certain events, his face and voice remain entirely neutral. Despite this stoicism, Kishibe has proven on numerous occasions to be something of a sentimental and emotional individual.
