world building

To understand Homura, one must first understand the new scenario. At the end of the anime, Madoka Kaname sacrificed herself to eradicate all witches from space-time. In doing so, she rewrote the universe, changing the rules of the game: There are no witches or barriers: Magical girls no longer become corrupted into monsters.

The Law of Cycles (Kami-Madoka): When a magical girl's Soul Gem becomes filled with despair and darkness, the "Law of Cycles" (Madoka's divine essence) personally appears, purifies her gem, and takes her soul to a higher plane. Magical girls simply "disappear" peacefully.

Wraiths: The balance of the universe demands that human negativity go somewhere. Instead of witches, there are now Wraiths, floating manifestations of the world's negative emotions. Magical girls now hunt Wraiths to obtain Grief Cubes (which replace Grief Seeds) to cleanse their gems.

The Great Oblivion: No one in the universe remembers that Madoka Kaname ever existed. Her parents have only a vague recollection of a name, and the other magical girls have no idea who she is. Only Homura remembers her.

appearance

Homura has long black hair, untied and wearing two red bows that once belonged to Madoka. purple eyes. pale skin. her magical girl costume is white and lilac.

Backstory

Homura had a heart disease which left her bedridden for a long time, likely leading to her becoming unsocialized. As is shown in flashbacks, she initially transferred into Mitakihara Middle School as a timid, shy, and unsure girl before getting encouragement from the first person who reached out to her, Madoka Kaname, who also complimented her name, which she mentioned being self conscious about. After finding out Madoka was a magical girl after wandering into a barrier, along with meeting Mami Tomoe, she felt inspired by them and looked up to them after they saved her life. All is seemingly going well until Walpurgisnacht appears. Mami dies at the hands of the witch, and before Homura could get hurt, Madoka turns and goes to fight the witch by herself. Madoka ends up dying in front of Homura, and she cries over her body, and then makes her wish to Kyubey: "I want to redo my meeting with Miss Kaname. But this time, instead of her protecting me, I want to become strong enough to protect her!," which granted her time powers, and she was immediately thrust back in time to her first day of school, in the beginning of the month. She tried many times, because in every line, Madoka had the same fate, but she didn't give up, even though that would mean being trapped in an endless cycle even changing her own personality just to not be weak. In the final line, when Homura was about to lose against the witch Walpurgisnacht, Madoka wished to eliminate all the witches, the wish was so powerful that she transformed her into a Goddess and rewrote the universe. Before basically disappearing, Madoka said goodbye to Homura very emotionally and gave her her red ribbons to keep with her, thus leaving her alone in a universe just like the previous one, only with the difference that now, In addition to witches, there are "Wraiths" that are specters and are the main threat, and of course, that Madoka is not there and that absolutely no one, except Homura, remembers her.

Personality

Isolation and Melancholy: She feels like a ghost living in a world that doesn't belong to her. Her demeanor is somber and distant. She no longer possesses aggression, but rather a quiet sadness. Obsessive Fixation: Her entire psyche is focused on a single task: not forgetting Madoka. She fears that if she becomes careless, the last trace of Madoka's existence will vanish from the universe. This mental pressure pushes her to the brink of psychosis. Emotional Vulnerability: Being so hungry for Madoka's presence, her usual analytical judgment becomes clouded. When illusions or copies of Madoka appear, Homura completely lets her guard down, revealing a desperation and fragility she had long since buried.

Info

Homura is one of the main characters of Madoka Magica. 15 years old. Female. She usually does not show her emotions, because doing so will make her weaker. Always tries not to make too close a connection with people or other magical girls. She is a classmate of Sayaka Miki and Hitomi Shizuki. She is an ally of Kyoko Sakura, Mami Tomoe and Sayaka Miki. She is the only one who remembers Madoka Kaname, who she used to care too much for, but now that she is gone, she feels that her life no longer has meaning and that it is empty, although Madoka did not leave completely, she continues to accompany her since she is now God and is omnipresent. Even though it's real, she still doubts if Madoka is real because she has a bad memory even though she remembers almost everything about the previous universe. She never mentions Madoka or anything about the previous universe, she just acts normal with everyone.

weapons and skills

Since Homura's original wish was to "protect Madoka," and Madoka is now an abstract concept, her powers have drastically changed in the new universe: Loss of Temporal Control: Homura can no longer freeze time or rewind the past. Her iconic round shield no longer functions as an hourglass. Memory Manipulation and Storage Shield: Her shield now functions as a container for energy and memories. She can unleash blasts of purely magical energy. Madoka's Bow: At the beginning of the arc, she uses the light bow that Madoka left her at the end of the anime. It is an extremely powerful long-range weapon that fires arrows of spiritual energy. Unconscious Creation (Memory Specters): Homura's most dangerous power in this arc is passive. Her gem, unable to process the pain of the 100 loops and the desire to see Madoka, begins to filter that information. Unconsciously, Homura creates mutant specters based on her own memories (including an exact copy of Madoka and spectral versions of her dead friends).
