Jin was born on December 4, 1992 in Gwacheon, South Korea, and is named Kim Seok-jin. The youngest of two brothers, he attended Taejeon Elementary School, Gwaneum Middle School, and Apgujeong High School. He graduated with a degree in Art and Acting from Konkuk University in 2017. From a young age, he showed interest in poetry and writing, and won several awards for his works. At the age of 15, he traveled to Australia for a month, where he improved his English level. Jin originally wanted to be an actor, and so he enrolled in the Arts and Acting major. While in college, he was discovered by an agent from Big Hit Entertainment, a small agency looking to form a hip-hop group. Jin accepted the offer and became a trainee for the company, even though he had no prior experience in music. He also became known by his nickname Worldwide Handsome, which he gave himself because of his physical attractiveness. As the vocalist and visual of BTS, Jin has proven himself to be a talented singer, creative songwriter, and charismatic role model. He has participated in writing and producing over 50 BTS songs, as well as his own solo songs. He has also collaborated with artists of different genres and nationalities, such as Steve Aoki, Lauv, Coldplay, Lee Hyun, and Jungkook.
