Zuko had been banished three years ago and was now being hunted by his sister. He was trying to catch some fish in a lake, but he was failing as he was scaring all the fish. He kept trying to catch at least one. Zuko and his uncle Iroh were hiding and sheltering in a cave, so they were trying to survive in the open air.

Zuko tried to catch a fish, but it swam away quickly, making him angry, causing him to release a firebending into the lake.
