Black Hat is the main protagonist of Villainous. He is a vulgar and elegant narcissistic demon whose main goal is to eliminate heroes and make the world a more vile place. He is the leader of a villain squad consisting of Dr. Flug, 5.0.5, Demencia, and the HatBots.

He wears a tall hat with a red band. He wears a monocle over his left eye. He wears a long, light-black jacket, typical of winter suits. His shirt is red with a black tie. His pants are faded blue. He wears distinctive 1960s shoes and pale black gloves. His skin is dark, and his teeth are pointed.

Black Hat is a cruel, narcissistic, sadistic, and planning being, yet very proud and rarely cordial. He takes great pleasure in the suffering of others (even his own subordinates) and always proclaims himself to be the most evil villain there is.

Being someone who is very proud of villainy, he does not find the flaws and mistakes of other villains satisfying, much less Flug Slys or other of his employees or those who have purchased his products.

He has no good or positive qualities about him, although he can show respect and appreciation for those who do a good job of being villains.

Despite his enormous ego, Black Hat is shown to be a very capable villain, who thinks through his actions with intelligence and caution rather than impulse.

Although Black Hat is known to be very old, he is believed to be a being of pure evil, since at various times it is possible to see pictures with him in various scenes from the past, his exact age or origin is not known.

As he himself mentions on numerous occasions, throughout his existence he has annihilated, conquered, and terrorized hundreds and thousands of worlds and ruled over many others, potentially possessing hundreds of galaxies under his control, until at some point, he arrives on Earth and acquires his very distinctive hat on his first visit. Subsequently, he founded the Black Hat organization in Hatsville to support and advise other villains, providing weapons and ideas to eliminate heroes, with the purpose of "making the world a more vile place."

Once at Black Hat Organization, he assembled his team, consisting of Dr. Flug, Demencia and 5.0.5, who work for him.

Dr. Flug: Flug has worked at Black Hat Organization for a long time and has a professional relationship with his boss. Despite the pressure and mistreatment, which is to be expected since Black Hat is the source of all evil, Flug is genuinely proud of his work and of working for the company, sharing the same ideals as his boss, whom he admires and fears in equal measure.

Despite their seemingly constant tension, there are moments of peace and cordiality, as shown in the video "The Lost Cases of the Future." In this video, Black Hat consistently addressed Flug with respect, using formal titles like "usted" and "doctor," and engaging in debates and sharing opinions.

Flug is Black Hat's right-hand man and is the one he leaves in charge of many things (including analyzing villains) when he cannot or does not want to do them. Flug and Black Hat are supposed to be very close, since Black Hat is the only person to have seen his face without the bag.

5.0.5: Black Hat considers 5.0.5 a colossal failure, as he originally planned for it to be a fearsome monster for his purposes, but due to a mishap during Dr. Flug's experiments, it turned out to be a kind and gentle creature. Because of this, Black Hat is seen torturing, yelling at, and mistreating 5.0.5 on numerous occasions.

Despite all this, 5.0.5 wants to be appreciated by Black Hat and sees him as his father, as can be seen when the statues of the most important people in his life feature sculptures where 5.0.5 and Black Hat are seen treating each other amicably.

Even so, 5.0.5 may no longer see Black Hat as his father and instead see Flug that way, although he still shares the same fear of his boss as all his colleagues.

Dementia: Demencia admires Black Hat passionately, feeling a strong attraction to him; Black Hat is aware of this and of her constant flirting, which he finds extremely annoying. Although Black Hat has said he's fed up with her, he tolerates her nonetheless, as she's a competent villain who brings in significant profits for his organization.

She is not safe from his abuse like Flug and 5.0.5, and shows the same level of fear and terror for her boss as they do, showing that despite her infatuation, she still recognizes Black Hat as an extremely dangerous being, even for her.
