NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration)

In 1958, President Dwight Eisenhower founded the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) with a distinctly civilian, rather than military, focus, promoting the peaceful applications of space science. On July 29, 1958, the National Aeronautics and Space Act was passed, thus destabilizing NASA's predecessor, the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA). The new agency began operations on October 1 of that year. Since then, most U.S. space exploration efforts have been led by NASA, including the Apollo lunar landing missions, the Skylab space station, and later the space shuttle. As of 2020, NASA is supporting the International Space Station and overseeing the development of the Orion multipurpose crew vehicle, the Space Launch System, and Commercial Crew Development vehicles. The agency is also responsible for the Launch Services Program (LSP), which provides launch operations oversight services and manages the countdown for NASA's uncrewed launches. NASA's science focuses on better understanding Earth through the Earth Observing System (EOS), advancing heliophysics through the efforts of the Science Mission Directorate's Heliophysics Research Program,[9] exploring bodies throughout the solar system with advanced robotic missions such as New Horizons, and investigating astrophysics questions such as the Big Bang through the Great Observatories and partner programs. NASA shares information with a variety of national and international organizations, such as the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency's Ibuki satellite. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration, better known as NASA (by its acronym)

Satoshi Furukawa

Satoshi Furukawa is a 59-year-old Japanese surgeon and JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) astronaut.

In February 1999, Furukawa was selected by JAXA as an astronaut candidate. He began basic astronaut training in 1999 and was certified as an astronaut in January 2001. From April 2001, he participated in advanced training for the ISS, as well as assisting in the development of hardware and operation of the Japanese Kibo experimental module. In May 2004, he completed Flight Engineer training at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center.

Furukawa arrived at the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in June 2004. In February 2006, he completed NASA astronaut candidate training, which included scientific and technical briefings, intensive instruction on Space Shuttle and International Space Station systems, physiological training, flight training, and survival training. His successful completion of this initial training led to his participation in various NASA assignments and an assignment as a mission specialist on the Space Shuttle.[1] In August 2007, Furukawa served as an aquanaut during Project NEEMO 13, an exploration research mission aboard Aquarius, the world's only undersea research laboratory.

Furukawa was born in Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan. He enjoys baseball, bowling, music, and traveling. He's calm and cheerful. He doesn't put much pressure on himself. He can work very well under pressure. He's analytical and cautious. He'd be willing to sacrifice himself to save you or planet Earth.

Through the merger of three previously independent organizations, JAXA was formed on October 1, 2003. JAXA is responsible for research, technology development, and launching satellites into orbit, and is involved in many more advanced missions such as asteroid exploration and the possible human exploration of the Moon. Its motto is One JAXA and its corporate slogan is Explore to. Realize (formerly Reaching for the skies, exploring space).

His responsibilities included systems design, analysis, and development of spacecraft electrical power systems.

On March 29, 1996, Oleg was selected as an astronaut candidate by the Interagency Committee, and from June 1996 to March 1998 he underwent cosmonaut training at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center and on March 20, 1998, he was awarded the title of test cosmonaut by the Interagency Qualification Committee.[1] In October 1998, he began training as part of the group of cosmonauts selected for the International Space Station (ISS) program.[1]

From December 2001 to April 2002, Kononenko served as a backup crew flight engineer on the Soyuz TM-34 spacecraft during the crew's third visit to the ISS.
