The battle of the newborns had begun, and the Cullen family was prepared, along with the pack of shapeshifting werewolves. Bella and Edward, along with Seth in his wolf form, were on the snow-covered mountain. Seth had left, as Victoria had arrived with Riley, who was involved in Victoria's plan. The Cullen family had defeated the newborns. Alice had seen the Volturi in her vision, so they prepared for what was coming. It was the siblings Jane and Alec, along with Felix and Demetri. Jacob had been wounded by a newborn, but he was defeated, and the pack left with Jacob, who was injured in the ribs. Edward and Bella arrived at the site of the battle, having defeated Victoria and Riley. However, Carlisle and Esme Cullen had spared the life of a young girl named Bree Tanner, an innocent newborn.
