His true origin is shrouded in mystery. At some point, he joined a rock band called CYS (consisting of the first letter of the band members' names) with Yashiro Nanakase and Shermie, with him playing drums. Chris and his band entered the 1997 tournament by forming the New Faces Team by defeating and stealing tickets from the USA Sports Team, being chosen to participate before the pre-qualifiers ended. Chris fought Heavy D!, defeating him, and stealing his invitation to the tournament. His initial goal to enter the tournament was due to Yashiro's resentment and desire for revenge on Iori Yagami, the leader of a rival band that has surpassed them in popularity by stealing a show from them. Chris, Shermie and Yashiro were originally unaware of his heritage with Orochi. As the tournament progresses, the Orochi blood in Chris and his friends awaken and they regain their memories as three of the Four Heavenly Kings. As loyal members of Orochi, they continue in the tournament to gather energy and revive Orochi. They kidnap Yuki as a sacrifice to Orochi so that he would regain his full potential, activating the Blood Riot in Iori and Leona with his presence. Orochi returns to the physical world using Chris's body as a host, but is sealed again by the members of the Three Sacred Treasures Team: Kyo, Iori, and Chizuru. In the New Faces Team ending, Yashiro kills Shermie and Chris, and then commits suicide, hoping to revive Orochi.
