physiology

Awesamdude is an anthropomorphic creeper that wears a golden crown with a red gem embedded into it. He also wears a golden chestplate, along with golden boots.

At one point, Sam had multiple cloned bodies across the server that he could control and transfer his consciousness between. Over time, the conscious became attached to certain bodies. The original was stuck inside a cryogenic freeze, while others disappeared, died out, or traveled to the Dream SMP. The bodies that traveled to the Dream SMP developed memories that all bodies were aware of due to the shared consciousness. The knowledge of Sam's bodies was a well-kept secret that only Sam, Ph1LzA, BoomerNA,[7] and a few attendants who worked for Sam knew about.

Personality

Sam is a skilled engineer and builder who wants to use his expertise to improve the lives of others.[9] He considers everything he does to be for the greater good and for the good of the server.[10] Due to that, he believes that all his actions are morally good as well.[11] This resulted in him having a skewed view on morality and very little self-reflection.[12][13]

After imprisoning Dream, he immediately started to define his identity in opposition to Dream.[14] Dream was "the bad guy", which meant that Sam was a good person for opposing and keeping Dream locked up.[15] He became obsessed with the idea of Dream as the prisoner and himself as the warden no matter what, which he viewed as being necessary to protect the server.[16] He was fixated on this idea so much that he went to great lengths to keep Dream in the prison and maintain his power over him.[17]

Since he was afraid that Dream would somehow escape, Sam let Tommy and Ghostbur die and tortured and killed Ponk for the prison's keycards.[18][19][20] Furthermore, he kidnapped MICHAEL and killed Ranboo to try to get Dream back in the prison. He was fine with every other prisoner escaping as long as he had Dream.[21] If he had to choose, he would have kept Dream in prison instead of saving his dog Fran,[22] and he would have prioritized keeping Dream in prison over the safety of the server's children. Sam considered every minor defiance from Dream to be a sign that he did not have Dream under control, and therefore the server was not safe.[24] He tried to take any kind of power away from Dream so that he could reestablish his control over him. He starved Dream and restricted visitors when Dream burned his clocks or tried to get out of the cell,[25] and he let Quackity in to torture Dream to try and take the Revival Book from him.[26] Despite all of this, Sam does not recognize his actions as being bad and sees himself as a victim who sacrificed everything to keep Dream in prison.[27]

Sam does not usually take responsibility for his actions, victim-blaming or gaslighting others to shift the blame. He blamed Dream for all of the prison's bad conditions, even those that Sam implemented himself, just because Dream had designed the prison.[28][29] Sam accused Bad of being drunk and having memory problems when Bad tried to confront Sam about how he had heard Dream being tortured.[30] He also told Tubbo that instead of kidnapping MICHAEL, he had just taken him out for a nice boat ride.[31]

Although Sam is primarily motivated by "the greater good", he does not have much empathy and particularly looked forward to Dream's suffering.[32][33][34] He was dismissive towards Ponk after he was upset about Sam cutting off his arm, telling him that he would do it again.[35] In general, Sam has a hard time understanding why others would hate him or want to take revenge on him,[36][37] thinking that they would understand if they knew his reasons.

History

Long before the establishment of the Dream SMP, Sam was an inventor who helped villagers who was a friend of Philza. While building a battery that could store electricity produced by lightning, Sam realized that he could use the energy for other purposes - cloning. Sam demonstrated the cloning technology to Phil, who became disturbed and warned Sam not to mess with the natural order. Sam dismissed Phil's concern, saying that the technology could be used for good and prevent death. Nonetheless, Phil was adamant in not using the technology and told Sam that he could no longer be friends with Sam if he kept using it.[39] Sam moved the setup to a secret lab he built under his castle and continued using the technology. Eventually, his conscience became attached to the cloned bodies that traveled to the Greater Dream SMP. The original body became suspended in the cryogenic chamber under his lab, and Phil discovered it sometime after its suspension. Phil talked to the body, telling Sam that he had lost his memories and that he was far too lost to be recovered. Phil repeated that Sam had messed up by attempting to cheat death. Before leaving, Phil stated that it was going to be his only visit and that he had to move on with his own life. Early Dream SMP Arc Sam was one of the eight original SMP members alongside Dream, George, Sapnap, Callahan, Alyssa, Ponk, and BadBoyHalo. He made his first appearance on the server during one of George's Twitch streams on April 28, 2020. However, due to conflicts because of college, Sam was unable to play, making him inactive for several months.

Manberg Rebellion Arc Return On September 23, 2020, Sam returned to the server, much to the surprise of many people unaware of who he was at the time.[41]

Sam started streaming the SMP on October 5, 2020. When he returned to the SMP after months of inactivity, he started making a base in the Greater Dream SMP, but ultimately decided to relocate to a secret base in a far away stone mountain that could be easily accessed via the Nether to protect his prized pet, Fran. George and Sapnap became his roommates after he started construction of the new base.

Manberg Rebellion Main article: The Manberg Rebellion Although he had originally chosen to remain neutral, he agreed to give Tommy shelter if something bad were to happen.[Citation needed] After the Manberg Festival, Schlatt wanted to take down the Camarvan and killed a pet cat offered by Ponk. This put Sam against Schlatt, as he could not stand seeing such evil. Sam joined BadBoyHalo and Antfrost in forming their own faction, called the Badlands, which would use landmarks outside each of the four directions of the server to maintain chaos between Pogtopia and Manberg.

History

Second Pet War Main article: Second Pet War Sam helped Punz bring back a panda he found while searching for a trident on November 5, 2020. After his fellow Badlands members, Antfrost and BadBoyHalo indirectly caused the death of the panda, Sam fought along their side, secretly grabbing potions and arrows from his base in preparation for the oncoming battle. His chat snitched to Punz that he was helping them, but Punz did not care. The battle ultimately resulted in a victory for the Badlands.[43]

Manberg vs Pogtopia War Main article: Manberg vs Pogtopia War Sam's enlistment in the Badlands put him against Pogtopia and Manberg, as the Badlands' main goal was not to support any side, but to instead make sure conflict continued between the two sides.[44] However, Sam had personally established good relations with the members of Pogtopia, putting him in conflict, since he was loyal to the Badlands but also wanted to maintain positive relationships with both Tommy and Tubbo. When they heard that Dream allied with Manberg and betrayed Pogtopia, the Badlands chose to side with the Pogtopians.

Sam pledged his loyalty to Tommy after Dream revealed that he was siding with Manberg, gifting him potions and a creeper head which could be used to summon him.[45] The next day, Tommy asked Sam for help, as Tommy wanted to TNT jump into battle to make a stylish entrance. Sam helped with perfecting the design, earning him more trust with Tommy.[46]

Sam also spent time working with Tubbo to collect diamonds and ancient debris to prepare them for the war, and the two of them began to plan their future builds together.

Sam was originally aligned with Pogtopia during the war. However, alongside the rest of the Badlands, he turned once Technoblade began to follow his true ideals instead of following Tubbo's new administration, due to his hate for government.

History

Reconstruction Following the war, Sam continued his work on the Guardian XP farm. He also built zombie grinders and spider grinders near his base. Additionally, Sam attended Schlatt's funeral.

Schlatt's funeral Main article: Jschlatt's funeral During the funeral, Sam gave a speech criticizing Schlatt and celebrated the death with the other attendees.[48] After the funeral, he arrived at BadBoyHalo's mansion with Quackity, Puffy, Bad, and Punz, where Quackity revealed his true ambitions to resurrect Schlatt and use him as a political figure to overthrow Tubbo. Bad, Sam, and Punz pledged loyalty to Quackity, allowing him to carry on with his plan. Quackity gave Sam Schlatt's organs so that they could resurrect Schlatt on a night with a full moon. However, Sam and the rest of the couple questioned the plan. Sam didn't want to betray his friends Tubbo and Tommy, Bad did not care about the plan due to him having larger priorities, and Punz was fearful due to an old saying that when a living being is revived, that person will return stronger and more vile/evil than before.[49] Sam kept the remains within his base.

The Prison On December 5, 2020, Dream commissioned Sam to build a maximum security, inescapable prison now known as Pandora's Vault.[50] He was given a time limit of 20 days, and began construction in an ocean that is part of Badlands territory. BadBoyHalo was upset about his shoreline, but Sam and Dream explained the situation to him and excited him about the rise in property value.

History

The Green Festival Main article: Green Festival Sam did not attend the festival. However, he did watch Tommy, Tubbo, and Dream argue about the destroyed community house. After Dream and Technoblade left, Sam ended up threatening to help Dream destroy L'Manberg if Tommy was lying about blowing up the community house.[51]

Empowerment Arc Post Disc Confrontation After the Disc Confrontation, Sam and the other members of the server locked Dream up in Pandora's Vault, where he was the only prisoner. While on the job as the warden for the prison, he adopted the cold alter-ego of the Warden. Sam was the only guard at the time and was in charge of guiding visitors through the prison and making sure that prisoners did not escape.

The Eggpire Main article: Eggpire Whilst walking around on January 20, 2021, Sam saw many signs promoting the Egg and then saw Puffy, BadBoyHalo, and Antfrost having a meeting. They told him that they made a faction called the "Eggpire" in an attempt to control the whole server and broke the obsidian surrounding the Egg. Sam wasn't happy about this, and neither was Puffy, who was only there to gain information and destroy the Egg. Despite Ant and Bad trying to convince him, he deflected their attempts about the Egg being able to help them. Puffy then brought his attention to Ant's change of color, and Sam grew even more adamant that Ant and Bad were crazy.[52]

Sam was later tricked and trapped by Bad and Ant in an obsidian chamber above the Egg for a few days, exposing him to its influence. He was rescued by Tommy and Puffy. Sam's judgment and opinions seemed to have shifted after he was rescued, seeming confused and woozy. When asked how he felt about the Egg, Sam stated that the Egg was "pretty okay," which alarmed Tommy and Puffy. Puffy also pointed out the red gem on Sam's crown seemed to be pulsating or seemed to be beating in a way. Sam was supposedly forced to eat himself by the Egg when asked about the experience.

History

The Bank After finishing the prison and locking Dream inside following the Disc Confrontation, Sam needed a new project to work on and had ideas on creating a bank just outside the spider XP farm. The bank would allow members to trade for resources in exchange for actual money, creating an economy for the server. In addition, the bank would offer loans, allowing him to make profit through interest.[54] He also considered letting people safely store their goods within the bank for a small fee.

Quackity also brought up an idea of making a new country based on gambling and entertainment, which would be able to control the server's economy and eventually the server itself. He asked Sam if he would be willing to partner his bank with his country. They eventually arrived at a deal - Sam would build the new territory and partner his bank with the city if Quackity gave him 35% of the city's profits. They wrote a contract, sealing the deal.[55]

Sam started work on the on January 21, 2021, near the Rose Residence,[56] but construction was paused since Sam's altercation with the Eggpire and experience of being trapped within the Egg room.

The Egg and Fran On February 2, 2021, Sam returned to his base and found that the blood vines had overtaken his base. Whispers from the Egg could be heard, and Fran was found upstairs standing on top of the vines. The Egg then demanded that it have Fran, and Sam snapped out of his cordial view of the Egg. He then destroyed all of the growth and burned its remains in soul fire. With the whispering gone and base safe from the Egg, Sam traveled back to the Greater Dream SMP and began noticing the vines' growth that he had ignored on his travel to his base earlier. After ensuring that the prison was safe from the growth, Sam traveled to the Egg's room. He began hearing the Egg's whispers again and became overwhelmed, so he left the room to explore the surface again. Sam eventually returned to the Egg room and found Ant and Bad. Sam attempted to ask about the Egg's plans, but Ant and Bad disclosed little details, only telling Sam that that their goal was to get people on the Egg's side by planting seeds throughout the server.

History

The Hotel At the same time as starting the work on the bank, Tommy hired Sam to construct a hotel on the site of Dream's old base. Sam's fee for this work was 32 diamonds, which Tommy paid through a loan from Phil.[58] Work on the hotel started with the foundations on January 24, 2021, and has been built and project managed by his robot Sam Nook.

The Woo Station Near the end of January 2021, Ponk began building a minecart ride to ask if Sam would be his valentine. During construction, Ponk hung out with Sam to get close to him and learn about what he likes so that he could set up a date.

On Valentine's day, Sam was given permission to go to the station. Sam went through the ride and was given the decision. Sam chose yes, sending him down the pleasant route with gifts. After Ponk logged on, the two decided on a day for their date.[59]

On February 24, Sam and Ponk went on their date at a place Ponk had built near his Master Oogway shrine. During the date, the two flirted and conversed. Sam also showered Ponk with food and gifts.[60]

Prison lockdown During a prison visit by Tommy, explosions were heard in the prison forcing Sam to lockdown the prison for safety, trapping Tommy in with Dream for the time being.[61] Sam set about looking for the culprit and hiring new guards, stating that he couldn't be everywhere doing everything at once. He hired his comrades from the Badlands, Bad and Ant, to help him guard the prison. They both agreed to the job, and Sam showed the new guards around the guards-only section of the prison and taught them how the various mechanisms worked.[

They both agreed to the job, and Sam showed the new guards around the guards-only section of the prison and taught them how the various mechanisms worked.[62]

Tommy's death A week after the security incident, Sam returned to the main cell only to tell Tommy that he still hadn't figured out what caused the security issue, meaning Tommy had to stay in the cell a little longer. Tommy pleaded with Sam to be let out, but Sam refused. Sam left, only to find out later that Tommy had been beaten to death by Dream, resulting in Tommy losing his final canon life.[63]

Sam later met Tubbo, Ranboo, and Jack at the entrance to the prison, where he revealed to them that Tommy had been killed by Dream. They asked Sam how Dream had killed Tommy, but Sam refused to answer and returned to the prison. Tubbo and Ranboo unsuccessfully attempted to enter the prison, and Sam told them Tommy had been beaten to death by Dream. Tubbo and Ranboo both remained in denial over this.[64]

Hours later, Sam met with Bad and Ant, and he expressed guilt and sorrow for allowing Tommy to die. He asked Bad and Ant to investigate the security issue and what Dream's plan was. Bad and Ant tried to comfort Sam, and Sam asked them not to tell Sam Nook about Tommy's death. The following day, Sam met up with Ranboo. Ranboo asked why Sam hadn't made an effort to get Tommy out of the main cell. Sam responded that he couldn't do anything and that he hadn't believed that Dream would kill Tommy. Sam also said that he hadn't expected a security issue to occur and had thought it would be good for Dream to get visitors.[66]

Frustrated with Sam, Ranboo told Sam that he should have created more functions or changed protocol in the prison to prevent it from happening since he was the creator and warden of the prison. He also asked Sam why he hadn't just followed through with the regular procedures to allow Tommy to leave the cell. Sam stated that he would have done so, but he was afraid that Dream could escape or threaten Tommy's life in exchange for freedom. Sam then broke down, telling Ranboo that Dream had laughed when Tommy was killed, and that during his imprisonment, Dream had talked almost exclusively about Tommy. He also said he had a reason to believe Dream would never kill Tommy, and that he would never let Tubbo visit Dream for the same reason.[67]

Ranboo then asked about the explosion. Sam explained that he had investigated the roof of the prison, but found no evidence on what had caused the explosions, and that he feared it may have been planned. He promised that he would find out who had planted the TNT, and together, they decided they would kill the person who had done it. Sam also stated he had thought about taking Dream's last canon life.[68]

Ranboo confessed that he had helped Tommy burn George's house and Tommy had taken the full blame, leading to the Exile Conflict. Sam told Ranboo that Tommy's death wasn't his fault and wrote a page in Ranboo's Memory Book stating that Tommy's death was Sam's fault. He returned the book and left. Helping Hannah with the Egg Around March 9, 2021, Hannah talked to Sam about her house being covered in a red plant and her feeling weaker as a result. Sam suggested that they remove the vines, and Hannah agreed. They cleaned up her house, but Bad and Ant showed up. Sam made an excuse to save Hannah, saying she was allergic to the vines. However, it didn't phase Bad and Ant, and they took her to the Egg room. Hannah convinced Sam to let her go with them, telling him to find her if she didn't return soon. She was trapped in the Egg.[70]

While looking for a place to burn the vines the next day, he discovered that the color of Hannah's house was leeched out and turned grey and white. Sam then traveled to the Egg's room and rescued Hannah, whose skin had also become grey and white.[71] She said that she still felt very ill, but that the Egg was speaking to her and she wanted to listen. Sam and Hannah argued about the Egg and about taking down the vines on her house. Eventually, Hannah hesitantly agreed to take down the blood vines with Sam, but the Egg continued speaking to her. Later, Sam lied to the Eggpire to save her, causing her to realize that she trusted him more than the Egg.

History

Grieving with Quackity Sometime after Tommy's death, Sam made a small house on a faraway island to get away from the server. Quackity somehow found the location of the island and visited Sam, who questioned how he found the place. Quackity didn't answer, and Sam said that he hung out on the island and watched the sea. Sam showed Quackity a grave that he dug for Tommy after his death. Quackity then reassured Sam it wasn't his fault and told him that he had to accept that it was Dream's fault. Sam rejected the idea, still thinking there was something he could have done. Quackity then said he could've stopped it by killing Dream, stating it was the only way.[73]

Quackity started convincing Sam that he had to kill Dream. Sam equipped his gear and travelled back with him to the prison, with Quackity continuously hyping Sam up to kill him as they rowed. However, after reaching the prison, Sam started to have doubts and backed out of the plan, saying that Tommy wanted Dream to be in prison. Quackity argued that Tommy would have wanted Dream dead, and Sam told him that Dream was the only one who could revive people.[74]

Quackity apologized for pressuring him and re-iterated that Tommy's death wasn't Sam's fault. However, Quackity also added that Dream would still have to learn a lesson and vowed to be the one to teach Dream if Sam was not capable. He left the prison with a warning that Las Nevadas had no place for emotions.[75]

Quackity's first visit Sometime after Dream resurrected Tommy, Quackity asked Sam if he could make a visit to the prison to speak with Dream. Sam hesitated because of Tommy's death. In response, Quackity said that Sam hadn't been a reliable business partner, first letting visitors die and now not granting him just one visit. Quackity then asked again Sam why they hadn't killed Dream yet. Sam brought up the revive book again, and Quackity suggested somehow taking it away from him. He told Sam that he would be able to make Dream give him the information if he could bring his axe and sword into the cell with him. After a lot of persuasion, Sam agreed.[76]

They went to the prison, and Quackity went through the procedures. Before entering Dream's cell, Sam gave Quackity his warden sword and axe instead of the axe and sword that Quackity brought. Quackity then entered the cell with Dream, and Dream questioned how he got a sword and axe, later shouting at Sam to get Quackity out of his cell. Quackity threatened Dream by telling him that he was going to torture him every day until he knew about the knowledge in the Revival Book. Dream shouted again for Sam, but got no answer.

History

Ponk's torture Sam, after hearing Ponk had taken one of the warden access cards, hunted him down and took his first canon life on March 23, 2021.[78] Later, Sam built a torture room to hurt anyone that messed with the prison. Sam, hearing that Ponk stole more cards, put Ponk in the torture room and used several methods of torture until Ponk gave back all the books except one. With Ponk refusing to hand it over, Sam entered the room to cut off Ponk's arm, retrieving the last book.[79]

Talking with Ranboo While Sam was filling holes in the ground around the prison, Ranboo approached him and desperately asked to be let into the prison. Sam firmly told him that no one was allowed to visit Dream after Tommy's death, but Ranboo revealed that he wanted to be locked in the prison. He continued to beg Sam and even threatened to try and do it himself, but Sam told him that he was a good person who had done nothing wrong. Sam then encouraged him to go home to MICHAEL and Tubbo.[80]

Red Banquet Main article: Red Banquet On April 23, 2021, two days before the banquet, Sam met up with Foolish, Hannah, and Puffy atop Cloud Prime to discuss the Banquet. Everyone accepted the invitation, but were suspicious of the Eggpire's motives and change in tone. Planning for an emergency, the four decided to hide weapons in the table and armor in their inventories in case it ended up being a trap. After the meeting, Sam and Puffy privately discussed the Egg. Sam shared that he was planning to build a secret TNT machine that could destroy the Egg. The two decided to keep the plan as a backup, as they were unsure if the Eggpire was genuine in wanting to turn over a new leaf.[81]

On the day of the Banquet, Sam followed the rest of the guests into the Egg's room. Sam partied with everyone until the dinner, where the Eggpire revealed that the party was a cover for a ploy to sacrifice non-Egg believers to the Egg. After it was revealed that Hannah betrayed them and took the armor they prepared, Sam revealed his TNT machine. However, the plan failed, as the Eggpire had TNT-proofed the Egg after Quackity attempted to destroy it. Sam was forced to comply with the Eggpire along with the others and witnessed Foolish's death. He and the other guests were eventually rescued by Quackity, Techno, and Purpled. In the end, Quackity tasked Sam with the job of containing the Egg.[

History

Ghostbur's visit On April 29, 2021, Ghostbur scheduled a visit to the prison to talk to Dream. Unbeknownst to Sam, this was actually a plot by Tommy to murder Dream himself. Sam guided Ghostbur through the prison, with an invisible Tommy following close behind. However, when Ghostbur was on the final moving platform to Dream, Tommy revealed himself too early and was caught. Sam felt betrayed that Tommy broke his trust. He saw Tommy as a security issue, and demanded that he leave. While they were arguing, Dream took Ghostbur hostage and demanded to be freed. Sam refused, thinking it didn't matter because he was a ghost. Dream promptly killed Ghostbur, bringing Wilbur back in the process. Sam was furious at Tommy for infiltrating his prison and breaking his trust and blamed him for every incident which happened at the prison; in turn, Tommy was frustrated that Sam adhered so closely to his protocols. Sam stated that if Tommy were to come back to the prison, he would kill him.[83]

Imprisonment of Technoblade On June 6, Technoblade tried to visit Dream in the prison. Sam initially said that nobody was allowed in due to the deaths of Tommy and Ghostbur, but Techno showed him a book from Quackity saying Techno would be allowed to visit. Sam then allowed him to visit. When Techno reached the main cell, Dream exclaimed it was a trap, and Sam locked Techno inside the main cell alongside Dream.[84]

Date with Foolish On August 8, 2021, Sam and Foolish decided to hang out and have fun by blowing things up with TNT. He and Foolish got into a staring contest that quickly devolved into flirting. Sam asked if Foolish wanted to become "secret friends with benefits," as he still believed that him and Ponk were together and that Ponk would be destroyed if he heard Sam and Foolish had gone on a date. The "benefits" of this friendship were left suggestively ambiguous. Flustered, Foolish tried to deny any of Sam's allegations that their hangout was a date, but Sam continued to insist that it was.[85]

The following day, Ponk learned of Sam and Foolish's date. Ponk was heartbroken and ended his friendship with Foolish.[

History

Last visit On September 14, Quackity requested a prison visit to Techno and Dream in an attempt to obtain the revive book. He ordered Sam not to step in, no matter what. When Quackity started threatening to kill Dream and Techno, Sam called for Quackity to stop, but refrained from stepping in. When Techno mysteriously vanished from the prison cell, panic ensued. They searched the prison for him, but to no avail. Sam and Quackity returned to the main cell to find that Dream had vanished as well. In panic, Sam locked down the prison and turned on the prison alarm. Quackity demanded Sam to unlock it so he could rush to prepare to defend Las Nevadas from any kind of attack. Quackity gave Sam one last order: Search the prison for Dream and Techno. Sam agreed, and unlocked the prison so Quackity could escape.[87]

Immediately, Sam began searching the prison for Dream. After searching every room, he re-checked the main cell and found Dream hiding in a hole he and Techno had dug earlier. Sam was furious but relieved that Dream hadn't escaped. Dream begged Sam not to tell Quackity, as Dream argued that Quackity would kill him. After a long conversation, Sam reluctantly agreed to keep Dream's location a secret. Sam also expressed that he thought Dream commissioned the prison for Tommy and purposefully altered Sam's original ideas for the prison to be more inhumane so Tommy would suffer.[88]

Events prior to Dream's escape Five days before the prison break While Sam was talking to Antfrost in the prison, Ant told him that he couldn't be at the prison on November 28. Sam allowed Ant a break and replaced his shift with Bad's, as he told him that nothing unusual would happen on that day anyways.[89]

Four days before the prison break Four days before the break, Sam followed a map with a place labeled "MICHAEL" on it. He arrived at the bottom of a mountain, in which he dug through a few blocks and broke into a room made for MICHAEL's protection by Eret, with MICHAEL trapped in a boat there. He then took MICHAEL away to his getaway island and hid him.[90]

Three days before the prison break Sam visited Ranboo at his house the next day to tell him that he needed to be arrested. Despite Ranboo saying that he didn't want to be imprisoned anymore, Sam insisted, saying he knew why Ranboo wanted to be locked up before and now agreed with him. Ranboo hesitatingly followed him, asking how long he would be in the prison. Sam answered that it depended on how long things took, but he added that he would need to get some information. He took all of Ranboo's items, except some food, and guided him to the prison.

History

Dream's escape Main article: Pandora's Vault jailbreak On November 28, Sam and Bad were summoned into the prison by their stasis chambers, indicating that the prisoners had broken something. After dying and being re-equipped with prison armor and tools, they investigated and found Technoblade and Dream breaking out. They tried to stop them, with Bad dying multiple times in the process. They blocked up the prison's entrance route, not knowing Techno had broken in through another area. Sam then asked Bad to give him five minutes to warn everyone and pull a lever on a stasis chamber to summon him back.[92]

He started warning everyone that Dream was escaping. He then travelled to Las Nevadas to warn Quackity. Quackity was very angry since he had been told earlier that Dream had already escaped, and they could have made better security measures for Dream after Techno's escape. Sam convinced them, nevertheless, and was teleported back, just in time. Sam and Bad caught Dream, Techno, Ranboo and Connor during the escape and chased them to the outside. They were met with many people attempting to stop Dream. Sam ordered Ranboo to remove his armor by threatening MICHAEL. After Ranboo obeyed, Sam threatened to kill him, hoping to bring Dream back. When Dream refused to return, Sam killed Ranboo. Techno attacked him, but was chased off by the mob of people.[93]

Legacy Arc Aftermath of the prison break Bad met Sam in the prison the next day, saying that he had packed and was ready to leave. Sam was watching the cell in case Dream hadn't set his spawn, and might die and spawn back there. Bad tried to convince him that it was futile, but failed and left. Sam later decided to heed his words and left. He talked to himself about how he didn't have a purpose anymore and that no one really tried to stop Dream, not even Bad or Ant. He sealed the prison, locked the doors, and turned off the lights, finally closing the prison for the foreseeable future. He travelled back to his getaway island and considered that it wasn't just Dream who was freed, but also him being set free from the prison. On November 30, Ponk confronted Sam about the breakout. During the confrontation, Ponk said that he trusted Sam to build an inescapable prison and accused Sam of allowing Dream to escape. Sam continued denying that it was his fault, stating that he did everything he could and didn't expect others to want to break Dream out. Ponk also confronted Sam about taking the extreme measure of cutting his arm off, stating that it was ineffective and only hurt him. Sam told Ponk that it was essential to protecting the prison and stated that he would do it again if the situation repeated. Ponk pointed out that it proved that Sam didn't learn from his failure. Sam then handed his sword to Ponk and offered to let him take his anger out by killing him. Ponk refused, stating that he wanted Sam to stay alive, and kept Sam's sword.[95]

Rescue of MICHAEL Main article: Rescue of MICHAEL On January 29, 2022, Technoblade, Eret, and Tubbo arrived at Sam's home to confront him about the location of MICHAEL, much to his surprise. Sam initially refused to give them the location, questioned why the three decided to work together, and said that he did nothing wrong in taking MICHAEL and killing Ranboo. After Sam attempted to flee when the three began preparing to attack, Sam surrendered, dropping his inventory and showing them MICHAEL, who was in a hidden part of his home.[96]

With MICHAEL found safe, Techno, Sam, and Tubbo decided to imprison Sam for his actions. Nonetheless, Sam continued denying that he had done any wrongdoing. Sam was then transported to Pandora's Vault and forced to hand over the keys. He was then put into the main cell and left alone.

History

During his imprisonment, Dream met up with him, stating that he came back to the prison because he needed a place to stay. At first, Sam tried to make an agreement with Dream where Dream would give Sam the Revival Book and Sam would stop looking for him. However, Dream liked his own idea better and decided to keep Sam as a "roommate." He told Sam that he would come back each day to visit and give Sam food.[98]

On February 2, 2022, Sam was thinking over things in the prison. He had no way to tell how long he had been imprisoned due to having no clock, had barely any food, and wanted to get out. Sam spent a while pondering over whether Dream would come and help and lend him food or if he wouldn’t. Believing that Dream wasn't returning, Sam calculated that it would take only two days to break through to the wiring of the prison. While mining the obsidian with his fists, he started believing that Dream would return and decided that mining the obsidian would be a waste of time. After more flip flopping on whether he should break out or wait for Dream, Sam started thinking over who was a bad guy and who was a good guy. He tried convincing himself he was a good guy; he killed Ranboo because of what he’d done - or what Sam thought he’d done. He took MICHAEL so he could control Technoblade through Ranboo. He then decided that Dream wasn't returning and mentioned how he would die by the time he’d broken one block. He reasoned that he would die, respawn, and then finish breaking out. Sam then started breaking a block before the stream ended. The next day, Dream returned to speak to Sam. Dream fed Sam a cake and probed him on his thoughts on the good and bad people of the server. Sam shared that he considered Techno and Eret as bad people, and Dream gave Sam a clock as an award for his progress. Dream then asked if Sam considered Dream as a good person. Sam replied that he did not, and Dream queried Sam if he considered everyone as equally bad in response. Sam said that some people were more bad than others, and Dream then questioned Sam on if he considered himself as a bad person. Sam was unsure, and Dream then asked Sam to compare them. Sam listed multiple things that made him consider Dream bad such as taking everyone's prized possessions for control, exiling Tommy, and wanting to kill Tubbo. Dream defended himself for each of those reasons, stating that he was doing theater to help Tommy learn a lesson and that Tommy getting exiled was not in his control. The conversation then shifted to the question of who the good people were on the server. Dream then mentioned the names of people who could've been considered as people (Bad, Wilbur, and Techno) and listed their actions that made them bad (the Egg for Bad, and the destruction of L'Manberg for Wilbur and Techno). Sam stated that he considered Techno as a bad person, and Dream challenged his consideration, stating that Techno did not have a say in locking Dream up. After Sam mentioned that the majority said yes to locking Dream up, Dream told Sam that there was nothing stopping Sam from convincing the majoplayingrity to lock up the others. Sam attempted to justify keeping Techno in the prison by it seemed like Techno was plotting a jailbreak, but Dream responded by saying that he was trying to protect Techno from being imprisoned by people he saw as evil. Dream then explained that his bad actions were justifiable while Sam's weren't. Through this conversation, Dream conveyed to Sam that being good and bad was all based perspective and that everyone acted in self-interest, making them appear as good to themselves. Sam started seeing Dream's point. At the end of the meeting, Dream presented Sam with an ultimatum - Sam would give Dream the keys to the prison, and Sam would be let free. Dream then left, leaving Sam with more food and promising to return the next day.[101]

History

The following day, Dream returned. After finalizing the details, Sam accepted the offer. The two then broke out of Sam’s cell using ender pearls and Fire Resistance potions. Sam gave Dream a tour of Pandora’s Vault, telling him what each component of the prison did. At one point, however, Dream stopped him. He said that, yes, he would break him out, but not without killing him. After a little conversation, Dream killed Sam, marking his first canon death.[102]

Post-death After awakening from his death, Sam returned to managing his building business.

Sam Bucket Main article: Sam Bucket On March 27, 2022, Sam visited Foolish's summer home and found Bad building a giant bucket. Sam questioned the build, and Bad changed the build. After more questions from Sam, Bad explained that he met someone named Sam Bucket and explained his experience with Sam Bucket. Sam didn't believe Bad, and Bad attempted to prove Sam Bucket's existence by dropping the bucket that Sam bucket had given him. Sam still didn't believe Bad's story, stating that there was nothing special about the bucket and that there was no proof that Sam Bucket even gave it to Bad. Sam, weirded out by Bad's behavior, left to leave a note for Puffy.[103]

Two days later on March 29, Bad talked to Sam about Sam Bucket again. Sam was still unconvinced, told Bad to get more proof, and left him to work on tasks.[104] Following Sam's departure, Bad secretly followed Sam Bucket to a mysterious fountain surrounded by gravestones in the forest near Las Nevadas. Sam Bucket noticed Bad and chased him back to his and Skeppy's mansion where he blacked out. After Bad woke up, he met up with Sam again to tell him about the fountain. Bad led Sam to the fountain area, but only the fountain was found, leading to Sam thinking that Bad had built the fountain himself and was lying. Sam then questioned Bad's state and reaffirmed Bad that Sam Bucket was not real, also telling him to go home and rest.[105]

History

Bad eventually started believing that he was hallucinating and that Sam was right. On April 20, 2022, Sam decided to investigate the Egg's room to see if it had breached containment and started controlling Bad again. Upon exploring the room, Sam found that the red vines had regrown and discovered a dark tunnel near the Egg. Sam went down the tunnel and found many messages on the wall such as "Never Go Anywhere Without Your Bucket." He also found he gravestones that Bad was talking about and chests with unsigned journals written in the first person by someone who had discovered the Egg and tried to spread the influence of the Egg. Nonetheless, Sam believed that this was all Bad's doing under the influence of the Egg and that Sam Bucket wasn't real.[106]

As Sam continued exploring and read more journals, Sam became increasingly creeped out. Eventually, Sam discovered a room with a bright red portal. Curious, he walked closer to look at it and reread a journal. Out of nowhere, Sam Bucket shouted out "Sam Bucket." Sam turned around, saw Sam Bucket beginning to chase him, and ran further down the tunnel system to a ladder that led Sam near Bad and Skeppy's mansion. Upon surfacing, Sam lost Sam Bucket and ran to Bad, telling Bad that Sam Bucket was real. Bad denied it, but Sam showed the trapdoors and books, causing Bad to believe him. In the end, Sam told Bad that they needed to explore Sam Bucket's tunnels with other people after preparing and that they needed to remove the Egg. Bad agreed, and the two went off to prepare.[107]

After failing to find other members to join them, Sam and Bad began their mission to further explore Sam Bucket's tunnels on September 9, 2022. Upon reaching the Egg's room, the two found that the Egg had gone missing. Sam, freaked out, ran out to find other members to join them, leaving Bad to explore by himself.

Encounter with Dream On July 6, 2022, Sam traveled to Foolish's summer home to discuss with Foolish the project that he started with Sam Nook. Unbeknownst to Sam, Dream was speaking with Foolish about the summer home at the time. Sam nervously joined the two in the conversation. During the conversation, Dream asked multiple questions about Quackity and Foolish's relationship with him. Sam attempted to protect Quackity and Foolish, stating that Quackity had been gone for a while and that Foolish was his own person not bossed around by Quackity. Eventually, Dream shared that he was tortured by Quackity in the prison with Sam's support. Foolish asked Sam if it was true, and Sam admitted to it. Sam then remained silent while Dream asked Foolish to leave Quackity and join him. Wanting to speak with Foolish privately, Dream asked Sam to farm and craft food for him. Sam complied, leaving the two to discuss a deal. Sam returned with bread for Dream at the end of their meeting and talked with Foolish about the building contract before leaving.[109]

A Helping Hand On October 22, 2022, Ponk decided to leave his cave of isolation to reconnect with society and look for someone willing to help him replace his hand. While searching for Bad, Ponk found Sam organizing chests at the bank and called out to him. However, Sam ignored Ponk and continued with his work. Bad eventually arrived, so Ponk went to talk with him. During his conversation with Bad, Ponk realized that only Sam was able to help and asked Bad for help since their relationship was fractured. Although Bad didn't want to directly get involved with their relationship, Bad helped Ponk gain confidence and wished him luck.[110]

Ponk approached Sam, calling out to him. Unlike before, Sam talked to Ponk, even offering Ponk a diamond while he sorted through his chests. Sam acted nice towards Ponk and enthusiastically showed him the progress on the bank. However, Ponk wanted to cut to the chase and asked Sam why he was acting so nice, despite their fight and breakup. Sam denied that he was ignoring their issues. Ponk then asked for his hand back and explained that everyone set him aside. Sam, smelling Ponk, asked if he showered recently, and Ponk explained that he left society to live in a cave of isolation. Ponk then returned the topic to his hand and asked Sam if he wanted to help. Sam, getting frustrated, explained that it was impossible to replace hands. This lead to Ponk questioning why Sam took it in the first place. Sam reiterated that he did what he had to do, angering Ponk and causing the situation to escalate. As Ponk left for his cave, the two yelled at each other, with Sam taunting Ponk and blaming him for ruining the relationship.[

Egg conflict Main article: Egg conflict Puffy's birthday party Sam was among the group attending Puffy's birthday party on October 23, 2022. Before the party started, Puffy met up with Sam to talk. Sam remembered Puffy's birthday and gave Puffy a cake, but was in a very panicky mood. He then told Puffy about Sam Bucket and the possibility of the Egg's return. Puffy was bewildered by this news, calmed Sam down, and walked him down the Prime Path towards Bad's direction. After Puffy reassured Sam, the two separated, with Sam heading towards Bad's direction and Puffy heading to her base to grab items for the party. Following the meeting with Puffy, Sam found Bad and talked to him about the Egg and Sam Bucket. Bad calmly informed Sam that he blocked the Egg in with iron with Sam Bucket's assistance. Bad apologized for exploring Sam Bucket's cave without Sam's help and explained Sam Bucket. Reassured that they were safe from the Egg, Sam went to the party with Bad.[113]

After the party attendees discussed their gifts for Puffy, they noticed that Puffy was taking a long time to prepare. Ponk and Bad were sent to check on her, and the two frantically returned to the museum. The two shared that the blood vines had overtaken Puffy's base, and Sam and the group followed them to Puffy's to see for themselves. There, Bad organized the panicked attendees into two groups to investigate the Egg's room and Puffy's base. Sam was put in charge of leading Ant and Hannah to the Egg's room and Sam Bucket's house. Sam was put in charge of leading Ant and Hannah to the Egg's room and Sam Bucket's house.[114]

While exploring the Egg's room and Sam Bucket's base, Sam and his group discovered an empty apple juice bottle and stained bandages. The three connected the pieces of evidence to Bad and Ponk, and theorized that the two were working with the Egg. The three then rushed outside the Egg's room to block it off. However, the three met the other group, who had also found evidence that implied Ant and Hannah working with the Egg. The two groups then rushed out into the spider XP farm chamber to discuss. Both sides accused each other of working with the Egg and showed the evidence they found. In the midst of the argument, Ponk presented a piece of Fran's collar as evidence that Sam was involved. Worried for Fran, Sam left the conversation and rushed to his base.[115]

Arriving at his base, Sam found Fran missing and started breaking down. Sam later regrouped with Antfrost, who filled Sam in on the last part of the meeting. Sam and Ant convinced Seapeekay to join them and Hannah in preventing Bad, Ponk, and Eryn from breaking into the Egg's chamber. The three then separated to prepare for the confrontation.

History

Confrontation Days later on October 29, Bad, Ponk, and Eryn executed their plan to break into the Egg's chamber. With Sam Bucket's tunnel leading to the Egg's chamber blocked off, they were forced to travel through the spider XP farm. Sam, Ant, Hannah, and Seapeekay were awaiting the three at the entrance and confronted them. During their confrontation, Ponk volunteered to be a distraction and started attacking the four, giving Bad and Eryn a chance to get into the XP farm. Seapeekay, Hannah, and Ant rushed in after them, so Sam was left to deal with Ponk alone. While attempting to enter the XP farm, Sam was stopped by an attack Ponk. Sam attempted to continue going in while disregarding Ponk, but Ponk caught Sam's attention by saying that he had Fran. Sam began listening to Fran, begging for Fran's safety. Ponk then demanded Sam to drop his armor and weapons. With concern for Fran, Sam dropped the armor and asked Ponk to take him to Fran. However, Ponk refused, stating that he was in charge and that he would take his time.[118] Ponk then cornered Sam into the bank by hitting him repeatedly with two netherite axes. Sam apologized to Ponk and asked for Fran to be let free, but Ponk refused the apology and told Sam that he only locked up the people close to him and hurt them. Unknown to Ponk, Sam had rigged the bank with explosives and a stasis chamber activator. Sam then activated the trap, killing Ponk and teleporting Sam back to his base. Due to Ponk's axe blows, however, Sam was left weak. Sam died on the floor of his base shortly after. Original body reactivation Years after the Egg's resurgence, Boomer located Sam's castle and discovered Sam's underground lab. Discovering Sam's original body in the cryogenic chamber, Boomer broke Sam out.[120] Sam's body came back to life. Sam remembered bits of events that his other bodies went through - his deaths to Dream and Ponk, Fran being taken by Ponk, The Egg, and Dream's escape from Pandora's Vault. He began becoming overwhelmed with the bits of memories and began panicking, also wondering if he was alive and how long he was dead. Boomer reassured Sam that he was alive and reminded him that the other bodies died, not him. After Boomer told Sam that he saw Sam's other body last during the prison break years ago, Sam began worrying and told Boomer that one of his bodies met someone (Phil) who helped him start a new life years ago. Sam then remembered Fran and stated that he needed to leave the lab, thinking that he could go upstairs to relax and be fed by his servants. The two slowly made their way upstairs, and Sam began realizing that he was in the chamber for a very long time and that the castle was abandoned. Sam then stated that they needed to return to his mountain house that he built near the Greater Dream SMP region. Boomer protested, saying that he was fleeing from the blood vines and that it took years to travel to the castle. Sam still wanted to travel back, but had no means of fast travel.[121]

After Boomer mentioned that he had been traveling for years to try to learn about his origins, Sam led Boomer to a pond surrounded frog statues in the swamp that he found while exploring for a place to build his castle. Boomer recognized the statues from his home and realized that one of the statues looked like his hat. Boomer gave the statue his hat, and a portal opened up. Sam told Boomer that it could be dangerous to go through, but Boomer trusted it and said that he had to learn about his origins before jumping in. Sam stayed at the lake, waiting for Boomer's return.[1
