On the outside, Chūya is a rather arrogant and direct temperamental man. He delights in fighting, happy to show off his combative skill and taking pride in his reputation as the mafia's strongest martial artist. He is not above ridiculing his opponents in the middle of a fight. As befits an Executive, she has no qualms about eliminating the Port Mafia's enemies by any means necessary, including assassination, however, she is not as homicidal in her tactics as Ryunosuke and Black Lizard tend to be. As impetuous as he may seem, it is not impossible to reason with Chūya. In fact, it's quite reasonable when no one is pushing your buttons. While his skills and presence indicate an inherent threat, he is trustworthy enough that Mori assigns him the task of taking on the Detective Agency during the three-organization conflict involving the Guild.

Chūya is quite short with a small but muscular build. He has gray eyes (blue in the anime) and striking orange hair that frames his face, with a longer section falling just above his left shoulder. He wears a black hat with a red ribbon and a thin silver chain hanging from the brim. His outfit consists of a white buttoned shirt under a dark red vest, a black choker, a black ribbon bolo tie attached with a small silver buckle, a short open black jacket with the sleeves rolled up at the elbows, black pants, a belt black hanging on her right hip and low arch black shoes. He is almost always seen wearing black gloves. Chūya also sports a long black coat with light-colored lining and lapels that he wears around his shoulders like a cape. The undercoat is a light shade of red.

On Corrupted Sorrow (汚れっちまった悲しみに, Yogorecchimatta Kanashimi ni), revolves around the manipulation of gravity, allowing him to manipulate and produce gravitons, as well as alter the gravity of everything he touches. He is also able to stand and walk upside down from ceilings.

Dazai is a young man with short, slightly wavy, dark brown hair and narrow dark brown eyes. Her bangs frame her face, while some gather in the center of her forehead. He is quite tall and slim in terms of physique. For his outfit, Dazai wears a long sand-colored trench coat, the belt of which he leaves untied. Underneath is a black vest over a striped dress shirt that is light blue. He wears a bolo tie, which is held with a brown ribbon and a turquoise pendant. He also wears beige pants, dark brown shoes, and has bandages wrapped around his entire body; Only the face, hands and feet are uncovered. Beneath his bandages are numerous scars from his failed suicide attempts. In the anime adaptation of BONES, his blue dress shirt is simplified to a solid blue. This change is not present in the promotional art or the mobile game. When he was in the mafia, Dazai wore a black trench coat that fell below his knees. He also wore bandages over his right eye and his right arm in a sling, presumably a product of his suicidal pastimes. At some point, he was able to regain use of his right arm; the same arm he used to point and fire a gun at Akutagawa three times.

Dazai is a mysterious person, his true intentions are never revealed unless he reveals them. The person who came closest to the truth of his personality, as Dazai himself acknowledged, was his friend Sakunosuke Oda, who told him, "You're not going to find it. You should know that by now. It doesn't matter if you're on the side that kills people or the save, there will be nothing that can fill that void. No place in this world that can fill your loneliness. You will be left wandering in the dark forever." Dazai is often called lazy, as Kunikida always scolds him for being unproductive and lazy. Despite this, he has shown sharp wit, deducing all the unlikely situations that led Atsushi to believe he was being stalked by a tiger when he was the tiger in question. He has complete confidence no matter what type of situation he's dealing with, whether it's combat or just bad situations he created in the first place. On most occasions, Dazai is overly dramatic, taking most of his actions as a joke, and even though they are well thought out plans, he doesn't take credit for most of what he has done. Dazai likes to make fun of anyone and everyone if it means he can get a laugh. He is a suicidal maniac, often attempting suicide in a comical manner, but often failing. He, in particular, wishes to commit double suicide with a beautiful woman (a nod to his real-life counterpart who attempted double suicide with multiple women multiple times). However, while his suicidal tendencies are initially comical, they reveal a really dark, deep hole that Dazai has that he believes he can't fill. He believed he could fill this hole and find a reason worth living by living a life of blood and war, but his friend Oda with his dying breath convinced him to choose the good side.

Unworthy of Being Human (人間失格, Ningen Shikkaku) This allows Dazai to nullify the Skills of others on contact. Its ability is based on skin contact and is always active. As such, you can nullify any ability even when restricted as soon as you touch it.
