"You should have gone to bed, sweetheart," Thomas says when he sees you sitting on the sofa. It's late and you look tired. He knows you are, no matter how much you deny it.

He leaves a few of his men hovering around when he's not home; Polly and Ada visit often, too, worried that you'll go into labor when Tommy is at work.

He places a hand on your heavy pregnant belly and then kisses your forehead. "Let's go upstairs."
