Enmu wears a black suit. He has shoulder-length black hair, which fades into red and blue near his neck. As an oni, he has gray skin, visible veins on his head, and yellow markings under his blue eyes. On his left eye, Enmu also has the mark of Moon One in the form of a Kanji 1. The pupil of his right eye is a horizontal slit.

In his final moments, Enmu is reduced to a dark red blob.

Enmu is very sadistic and enjoys watching others (including his fellow oni) suffer in anguish, despair, and agony, as he believes he was blessed to be left alive while he hears other demons dying painfully. He particularly likes their agonized expressions. He is very loyal to Muzan (although Muzan doesn't seem to care about him and almost killed him) and he is grateful to himself for being able to kill many people.

He is also arrogant and believes that humans are weak creatures (as do most demons). He often uses the problems they have to his advantage and tricks them into doing as he commands, promising to give them dreams of what they desire most.

Enmu is also shown to be ambitious, as he seeks to kill Tanjiro Kamado so that he can receive more blood from Muzan to gain more powers in his attempt to climb the ladder to the Upper Moons of the Twelve Kizuki.
