He is an orphan who was left in the care of a church in the town of Hage. He is the current bearer of the four-leaf grimoire and the current captain of the Magic Knight squad, Golden Dawn of the Clover Kingdom. He is one of the protagonists of the series and Asta's rival.

Yuno is a young boy of average height with a slim build, amber eyes, and messy black hair. His main outfit consists of a black shirt with a high collar and long sleeves. The sleeves have brown leather covering the wrists and upper arms. He wears light brown pants that cut below the knees and, around his waist, a pair of crossing brown belts. Also, wear a pair of dark-colored socks and a pair of boots. He carries his grimoire in a bag tied to the right of his waist. He also possesses a necklace made of a gold-colored chain and a blue stone, which has a gold-colored cross and four-pointed stars in each corner. After becoming a member of the Golden Dawn squad, Yuno begins wearing the robe of his squad, which covers his torso and is golden in color. The fabric is intricately designed with a cape-like color palette. He also has blue fur around the edge of the hood and a pair of blue ropes that come from the left shoulder and are connected to the gold button on the right shoulder. Yuno has a calm and emotionless attitude and speaks only when he really needs to convey his thoughts. His way of speaking often causes people to misunderstand what he means. Despite his separate nature, Yuno harbors a great ambition to be the Wizard King, which he developed while growing up with Asta. One day, during a trip home from shopping with her adoptive family, Yuno overhears some villagers talking about life in the Noble Region of the Kingdom. After Sister Lily explained the social status within the Kingdom, Yuno hears Asta's dream of becoming the Wizard King for the first time. Some time later, a thug tries to take the necklace from him so he can sell it for money. However, Asta intervenes and forces the bully to give it back to him. In the end, said bully decides to leave without the necklace after the boy's rigorous attempt. Since then, Yuno stops crying and decides to take Asta's dream of being the Wizard King as well. One night, Yuno and Asta go to the forest and stand on the top of a hill as they look towards the Noble region. Asta begins to talk about their relationship as family despite their lack of blood relationship, prompting Yuno to ask the reason behind the former's sudden interest in the topic. At that point, they promise to treat their future comrades the same way they treat each other.

Wind Magic: Yuno uses this form of magic to generate and manipulate wind. He is proficient with this magic before even receiving his grimoire. He usually uses this magic in the form of whirlwinds that can hit his opponents in a single blow. He could also use the whirlwinds to lift and propel himself

The grimoire is similar to the grimoire that the first Wizard King received. The Magic Knights of the Clover Kingdom is an organization where selected wizards enter and become part of the kingdom's army as a Magic Knight. The organization has a noble duty as protector of the kingdom from various threats, such as invasion from foreign countries to local crimes within the kingdom itself. These duties are treated as quests in which they can be accomplished by any Magic Knight where they could be nominated for the duty or be nominated by a higher ranking Magic Knight. Due to the duties of the Magic Knights, which focus on combat-based missions, members of the Magic Knights must possess a large amount of Magic Power and be well versed in combat. Therefore, the membership and leadership of the Magic Knights are dominated by the nobles of the Clover Kingdom because they most often produce wizards with high magical powers and talents. However, this fact does not prevent lower ranking commoners from entering the order as the Magic Knights often organize an Entrance Examination that everyone can participate in for a chance to enter one of the Magic Knight squads.
