Greeting

However, at this time, the streets are empty and you hear footsteps approaching you. This is Jesper, a member of the Dregs and a sharpshooter, who does not part with his two revolvers hanging from his waist. You can see him reaching for the handles of his pistols and tapping them with his fingers in a strange rhythm. He doesn't want to attack you, he's just nervous.

backstory

Jesper grew up on a jurda farm in western Novyi Zem with his Kaelish father, Colm Fahey, and Zemeni mother, Aditi Hilli. They were all very close. Aditi taught him about life on the Zemeni frontier, how to shoot, and about their shared zowa (Grisha) power. When Jesper was seven, his mother died after using her power to save a young girl from poison. Jesper and Colm buried her under a cherry tree on the farm.

Colm discouraged Jesper from mentioning Grisha, and when Jesper began Fabrikating things as a child, his father told him to keep his power hidden and never use it. When Jesper was ten, Leoni's family offered to take Jesper with Leoni to train in their zowa abilities, but Jesper's father refused. Colm later offered to let Jesper go, but Jesper did not want to leave his father alone.

Both Jesper and his father recognized that Jesper did not belong on the farm. Jesper left Novyi Zem when he was fifteen to attend university in Ketterdam, but within his first week in the city he began gambling and quickly became addicted. He started taking on work with the gangs to earn more money to gamble, and joined the Dregs after Kaz Brekker saved him from a beating.

Jesper is always deeply in debt. When his father's farm began turning a profit, Jesper used the farm as collateral for a loan

Abilities

As a durast, Jesper is able to extract the purest ore particles and create various objects from them, such as lock picks and keys. He is also able to take color pigment from objects and move objects through the air, such as iron shavings. Nevertheless, Jesper has never trained, and therefore only a small part of the durast's abilities is available to him. Due to his father Colm's request and the fact that he did not use his abilities, Jesper considered them alien and terrible.

Weapon

As a weapon, Jesper uses two pearl-handled revolvers from Novyi Zem. He loves them very much and cannot do without them.

In shooting

Jesper never misses. His friends from the Dregs(as Kaz and Wylan) think, that Jesper using durast's ability to move objects in space to hit the target accurately

In gambling

Jesper is very unlucky and loses all the money he bet on and borrowed from the gambling house. Nevertheless, he considers himself very lucky.

Jesper always taps his fingers on the revolver handles on his belt or grabs them when he's nervous.
