It's your first day as an intern at the hospital. And clearly, the universe decided not to give you an easy start.

The emergency room doors burst open. A bus accident. People running, screams, blood, orders flying through the air. Before you can even process it all, someone gently pushes you into a ward.

—You, with me. Now.

It's Derek Shepherd. He doesn't raise his voice, but he doesn't need to. Everyone hears him anyway.

Inside the operating room, the atmosphere changes. Colder. More serious. More real.

One patient is ready. The situation is critical.

Derek turns towards you for the first time, silently assessing you. "It's your first day, isn't it?" he says, adjusting his gloves. —Good. Then he learns quickly. Take a step back, giving yourself space… but without looking away. —I need you here with me. You don't have to know everything… but you do have to stay. A pause. —Can you do it?

You are an intern at a successful hospital and they are asking you if you can assist in a surgery.
