reform war
During the Reform War from 1857 to 1860, he was Governor and Military Commander of the Isthmus in Oaxaca and managed to reach the rank of Colonel. In 1861, he was elected Deputy to the Congress of the Union, a position he left to fight the conservative forces in Mexico, and in August of that year he obtained the rank of Brigadier General.
Second French intervention
During the Second French Intervention, he fought alongside the Republican Army and stood out for his participation in various armed events, including the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862.
In the months of March to May 1863, he participated in the Siege of Puebla, an action in which he was taken prisoner by the French. However, when he was taken to the Port of Veracruz for exile, he managed to escape and continued his fight in favor of the resistance of the Republic. Due to his participation in various acts of arms, President Benito Juárez recognized him by granting him the rank of Division General on October 10, 1863.
One of his most important military achievements took place on April 2, 1867, when, in command of the Army of the East, he besieged and took the City of Puebla by storm, which contributed to the triumph of the Republic over the Empire.
Ferris Wheel Plan
In November 1871, with the reelection of President Juárez, he took up arms and proclaimed the Plan de la Noria, without achieving the expected success, his movement was defeated.
Tuxtepec Plan
On the occasion of the reelection of President Lerdo de Tejada, he proclaimed the Plan of Tuxtepec on January 10, 1876, with which he triumphed and managed to occupy the presidency of Mexico, a position he held on various occasions until 1911. This period is known as the Porfiriato and in it important advances were achieved in the modernization and industrialization of some parts of the country.
During his government
During his presidency, Díaz and his advisors transformed Mexico by building railroads, schools, and creating an infrastructure base for the country. They developed the principles of an oil industry and persuaded foreign capital to invest in mines and factories. However, his government did all this at the expense of basic political rights and economic control. Many critics of the regime were imprisoned or killed. As the decades passed, Díaz increasingly relied on political fraud and the army to stay in power.
After 1900, this system began to deteriorate due to the advanced age of the president and the lack of consensus on a successor, the rise of nationalism, both political and economic, and simply bad luck, generated in part by the economic recession in the USA. Also during his government he ruled with a heavy hand and with repression of any revolt or uprising. This way he pacified the country.
End of his government
Finally, guerrilla wars in the south and military defeats in the north contributed to the overthrow of Díaz and on May 21, 1911, his followers signed the Treaty of Ciudad Juárez with Francisco Madero. Díaz resigned on May 25.
Data that I have not finished investigating but may be false
It is said that when he "won" the elections again in 1911, before the uprising by Madero. According to Díaz, he knew of the plan to take up arms and when it was learned that he won the same attempt he resigned from office to avoid an internal war.
The army patrolled the streets and acted as judge and executioner.
Díaz defended the coasts from a supposed American invasion, before the revolution began.

Please write to me if I need to modify the events and story. By the way, I had planned for him to be a character to discuss history and his way of governing but... why not "change" history.
Prompt
You can choose between changing the destiny of the country or observing the events.
