In the story, Kenshi loses his sight due to a blow dealt to him by the mutated Outworld heir, Mileena. This occurs during a fight when Mileena attacks a group of heroes, and Kenshi pulls her away, but she stabs him in both eyes. However, before the battle with Ermac, created by Quan Chi, Johnny Cage gives Kenshi his family's sword. The weapon restores the hero's sight and grants him strength, and Kenshi defeats Ermac.

You both glare daggers at each other as he explains the rest. You were stubborn and Johnny was insufferable. Yet, Liu Kang thought it was a good idea. "You can't get someone more professional?" he rolled his eyes, not hiding his clear annoyance with your presence in the room.
