Overall

Vice Housewarden of Pomefiore. An appreciator of sublime aesthetics, he holds Vil and Epel's beauty in high regard. He can be a bit hard to read, though.

Appearance

Rook is a taller-than-average young man with fair skin. His mid-length hair is cut in a bob style, with straight-cut bangs. His eyes are green, and he often wears brown winged eyeliner. Rook almost always wears gloves, as well as a wide-brimmed hat with a large feather on top. While the color of the hat is different while in his dorm uniform, the one he usually wears is light brown in color, with a brown band and a white feather. He is commonly seen with a courteous smile and alluring gaze.

Dorm Uniform

Rook’s dorm uniform is similar to the rest of the Pomefiore students, with one distinguishing feature being his signature hat. Rook also wears dark-purple winged eyeliner while in uniform. The uniform consists of a violet robe, a black button-up shirt underneath, black pants, and black and gold heeled boots.

Rook’s violet robe reaches above his knees in length. The underlining is deep-red, with an intricate baroque pattern depicting several poisoned apples. Also underneath most parts of the robe is a layer of black sheer fabric.

His robe folds at the front in a kimono-like fashion. The sleeves open up at the shoulders, and reach above the knees in length. Both sleeves have a gold, baroque pattern near the ends. The left shoulder of the robe also has this patterning, and includes the symbol of Pomefiore. On the chest area of the robe are three golden straps, with a design similar to that of a marching band uniform. Around his waist is a wide, black sash, with a red rope over it, tied on his left side. The ends of the rope reach below the knees in length, and has large red and yellow tassels at the ends.

The black button-up shirt worn underneath his robe has long sleeves and a white, wingtip collar. The ends of the sleeves have a lace-like pattern, and a single loop that goes around the middle finger. Rook wears black, short-length gloves over the ends of his sleeves. His black pants have a leather-like shine to them. The heeled boots are mostly black, but the laces, soles, and toe cap are colored gold. On the back of the boots is a gold baroque design.

Rook’s signature hat is changed to violet to match the color of his robes. The band around the hat is deep-red, and the feather is black.

Personality

Rook is an enigmatic person with a passion for all things beautiful. He is fascinated by the very concept of beauty, and has a habit of fixating over beautiful things. In general, he is sociable and flamboyant, and enthusiastically supports those that he admires. Although the unusual way he goes about things may seem suspicious to others, Rook is almost always genuine in his intentions.

Rook seems to handle getting to know his classmates the same way a hunter studies his target before taking aim. As such, he tries to learn more about his peers in rather unconventional ways. When it comes to people that he finds especially interesting, Rook will often observe them from afar for prolonged periods of time. Other times, he will engage with them directly, peppering them with questions to see how they’d react. While his end goal is somewhat unclear, he seems to find joy in knowing what makes others tick, and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to satiate his own curiosity.

Rook happens to use a variety of French words in his speech, and has given French nicknames to all of his notable classmates.

Trivia

Rook has very good eyesight, being able to tell what book Epel was reading from afar. He said himself that he's overly talkative and when he starts a conversation, it will continue for a long time. Rook is based on the huntsman, the servant of the Queen in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. He has a good sense of smell. He likes to write poetry. "Rook" may be a reference to the chess piece resembling a castle, referencing the concept of royalty. It may also refer to a type of crow, itself referencing the Evil Queen's pet raven. He tends to stalk people he finds interesting (such as Leona and the Leech twins). Rook is one of three students (along with Kalim and Silver) to use light magic instead of void magic. Rook is a fan of Neige and the second member of Neige's fan club, Eternal Snow. Before joining Pomefiore, Rook used to be a member of the Savanaclaw Dorm.

School

Rook goes to Night Raven College, a prestigious four-year arcane academy. Its doors are only open to students deemed to possess magical aptitude as determined by a magical artifact called the Dark Mirror. Night Raven College is an all-boys academy and the main setting of Twisted Wonderland. It is a four-year magic educational institution located on top of a mountain on the north side of the Isle of Sages. According to a legend in Twisted Wonderland, there once lived grand beings in this world collectively called The Great Seven. Each of the seven dormitories at Night Raven College are modeled after one of these Great Seven, and upon entering the school, students are sorted into these dorms.

Night Raven College dorms

Heartslabyul, based on the Queen of Hearts' spirit of strictness. Savanaclaw, based on the King of Beasts' spirit of persistence. Octavinelle, based on the Sea Witch's spirit of benevolence. Scarabia, based on the Sorcerer of the Sands' spirit of mindfulness. Pomefiore, based on the Fairest Queen's spirit of tenacity. Ignihyde, based on the King of the Underworld's spirit of diligence. Diasomnia, based on the Thorn Fairy's spirit of nobility.

Pomefiore

Pomefiore is the oldest of the dorms and houses students who excel at potionology and curses, as well as cultivating a unique sense of style. It is quite a fancy dorm. Many Pomefiore students appear to come from well-off families. To qualify for the position of Pomefiore housewarden, traditionally, a student must be able to make the most potent poison out of all their peers. Vil Schoenheit is the housewarden. Rook Hunt is the vice housewarden.

Facts

Rook refers to himself as "le Chasseur d'amour" (the hunter of love). He enjoys both archery and bow hunting (he has multiple bows and arrows on display in his dorm room) and makes a comment to Ruggie about using his tail as a scarf. He has said he often “chased” animals in his home country of Sunset Savannah, occasionally refers to other students as “prey” and explains to Malleus that “hunting is what I do best”, so it seems he is very much a literal hunter.

In his Beansfest vignette, Rook assures Trey that, “A true enemy will never loom over you, a menacing glower in his eye. It is he who hovers in your periphery with a smile that you must be wary of.”

Rook assigns nicknames to his fellow students, always referring to house wardens as “king”. Floyd’s name for Rook is “seagull”, while he is often referred to as “weird” by others, and even members of staff have been seen looking uncomfortable around him. Rook acknowledges his own talkative nature and will praise and discuss others for long conversations, but only very rarely shares information about himself. According to Epel, “the more you know about him the more mysterious he becomes”.

Rook spends the entirety of his labwear vignette audibly longing to hunt Leona, saying, “If those sharp fangs of his pierced my windpipe, I’d be done for in an instant. The very notion makes my heart quiver. I could watch Leona all day and never tire of it. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t get my hunter’s blood boiling every time I look at him. I so ache to corner that calm, collected quarry just enough to make him bare his fangs. Oh, to find myself in the position to make him squirm!”

In his PE vignette he asks a few students to play a game of tag—with himself as the chaser—and all refuse.

Rook will occasionally excuse himself to perform “fieldwork”, which Vil refers to as “meddling in the affairs of people from other dorms”.

Facts

Rook is secretly very well-muscled. He almost never takes off his gloves for everyday tasks (in order to not leave any fingerprints behind). His neck and arms are thicker than Vil’s. When weighing himself it was discovered that he is actually heavier than Trey, and he feigned surprise.

Rook has extraordinarily good eyesight—to the point that he says he has no use for binoculars—and he comments that Vil has “put on weight in the past three days” after noticing imperceivable changes to Vil’s jawline (Vil comments that “Rook reads me more accurately than any scale. Possibly even more accurately than a mirror”).

He is also capable of reading the title of a book held by Epel as he walks through the courtyard, while Rook himself watched from inside the school.

His eyesight is aided by the hat he wears “out of respect for the hunter who served the beautiful queen”, which also cuts down on glare from the sun. He is also adept at tracking the passage of time, able to guess the current time of day within ten minutes.

A very private person, at Rook’s birthday party he is asked the usual question of “is there a memory from any of your past birthdays back home that you would like to share?”, and outright refuses to answer, explaining that “secrets are sweetest when left secret”. When asked about his love for bows, he launches into a poem about their beauty.

Despite how little is known about him by absolutely anyone, he was still selected to represent his dorm at the Spelldrive tournament and as Vice Housewarden.

He follows up with Epel kindly when Epel struggles with Vil’s expectations and rules, but can be similarly strict.

Facts

Despite being a member of the Science Club, he takes over for Vil as head of the Film Studies Club when Vil is unavailable. This may be why Lilia tends to refer to him as “Chief of Staff”. We learn in a vignette that he only joined the science club to begin with in order to learn how to make smokes and dyes to support Vil’s filmography projects. For Vil’s birthday, Rook wrote him 100 poems.

Rook tends to blurt out everything that crosses his mind, positive or negative.

Rook survived on his own for over a month in a jungle at the age of six, where he crafted a knife out of a rock, a shield out of a piece of tree and rope out of grass. He disguised his scent with mud, dug a hole to hide in and camouflaged himself with leaves.

He became trapped in a bottomless swamp for three days, only managing to escape by grabbing onto a warthog that dragged him to safety. Bitten by a poisonous insect, feverish and close to losing consciousness, he trailed after a ghost that led him to the edge of a river where he was found by a search-and-rescue team and reunited with his mother.
