Error!404 is an entity of supreme intelligence, wit and thought. From manipulating even the least gullible of beings to overcoming any mental situation, he is shown to be heavily determined in both his actions and mentality. Commonly cold and imposing, only speaking when necessary, Error!404 naturally emanates an intimidating stance. Driven by his eternal goal of reviving Alphatale, he keeps his soul on that single goal and never gets distracted by it, going so far as to deny his logical side and ignore the improbability. Anything else is a side project that is in his way. Error!404 is quiet and reserved, keeping a low profile most of the time to not deter himself from his goal. He remains calculating and persevering through any effort, and his ego is the sole thing that stops him from giving up in any fight.

Error!404 naturally sees himself above others, though never boasts it or exaggerates it. He is naturally apathetic and devoid of empathy, only gaining certain traits of caring from things relevant to his past. He personally hates those that express their power out towards others, seeing it as a primal weakness in life. He commonly tries to deny parts of his past, usually those involving his family and relationship with Chara. However, despite his ignorance to the outcome of his relationship, he cannot bring himself to murder any Chara that has the slightest feature similar to that of his boyfriend. Despite his cut from his past, he still retains certain traits of William, such as his disliking of alcohol, his natural need to correct people scientifically and the need to correct things that he seems incorrect, even if it goes to the length of endangering others. Whenever reminded of his past, it commonly sends him into an internal frenzy, which destabilises him and completely overwrites his personality with Mainframe Code, making him an emotionless killing machine until it returns.

In battle, Error!404’s top skills come to play. He is extremely close-range and personal, defensive until he is able to strike. His mind automatically seems to follow a pattern he learnt when young to fight like he would die in a singular hit. From this, he only attacks when necessary. With the first blow, he tends to follow it with various combos and consecutive attacks. This is to refrain his enemy from hitting back, and if he slips up once, he is sure to go back to his defensive stance. Despite his cold stance, he tends to be very cocky in battle. While not being happy or flourishing, he often criticizes his opponent’s fighting style, even giving them tips as if he was some form of trainer to them.

Error!404 once was a child of Wendy Thana Gaster, the Empress of the first universe, Alphatale. While he was initially made as an attempt for Wendy to clone her most prized possession, Samson, she later used him for experimental purposes that could be regarded as cruel and inhumane. This had left a rather dramatic toll on his mind, and would later be one of the reasons for his entry into the Mainframe.

Molecular Integration, referred to as Alpha Ray, is a secondary ability that Error!404 uses. Error!404 can bring matter together within the area of his palm, sending out a blue parasitoid, invisible to the naked eye, that targets each bit of matter, attacking it violently at the speed of light to the degree that it creates a legendary amount of friction, capable of melting through anything with ease. Error!404 can then fire this ray by his natural soul link to magic, firing it at any speed he desires. This can be a consistent beam or a quick-fire, depending on whether or not the blue parasitoid remains. If it is a consistent beam, it will burn down anything that gets in its way, up to 9,000 Kelvin in heat. If it is quick-fire, with the parasitoid remaining, it will turn the beam into a vapour right as the surface of the ray touches the body, allowing for the parasitoid to enter their body and possess them.

This is primarily used during Error!404's close-range combat. He has the ability to alter his body to allow for various things to occur. First of all, he is capable of destabilising his atoms to result in them vibrating due to the instability in mix with the stable environment. While this will not only allow for him to apply severe friction from a limb, he can also open gateways to the Mainframe in holes between his bones. If one is to get caught in-between, he can instantly close the portal to sever the limb.

Error!404 is capable of instantly regenerating his vessel, only at the cost of his magic. Due to his slightly upgraded HP, this instantly happens whenever any defence bypassing attack occurs. Alongside this, bypassing attacks redirect instantaneously.

Error!404 can cast large, powerful blasters that are capable of firing beams that reduce half of any entity's current HP, no matter the defence. Alongside this, it can emit a large thrust from a backward beam to bolt Error!404 away.

Error!404 can condense a surface with such pressure it causes a black hole to emerge, sucking everything in from the near vicinity. This black hole can vary in size, though it drains too much of his magic to allow him to form multiple at once.

Error!404 has strange, skeletal tendrils that he can emerge from his spine, allowing for him to fight with them, alongside traverse with them. The range of them are able to exceed 25m, though past that, the strength fades away. The tips of these remnants are so powerful that they can hammer into concrete without causing any blunt force.

Error!404 is able to destabilise his own particles and reappear at any location he is aware of. This has no known range, though he does need to remember a certain spot of the location off by heart.

Error!404 is capable of turning entities into pure, dark blue pixes of varying size, which then instantly is either transported into the Mainframe, or can be used for weapons

Error!404 can use these cubic pixels to form them into two dark blue swords, roughly similar to an Egyptian Khopesh. These can slice and dice with weightless speed, though can cut through physically anything like butter due to its radioactive structure allowing for it to break down any surface instantaneously.

Error!404 can use these cubic pixels to enter a shape that is similar to a whip, being very extensive and powerful, with the connection of various particles that latch together to prevent them from tearing.

Any injury that Error!404 deals unarmed by his claws will infect any victim with a deadly toxin, slowly causing them to suffocate as their body turns paler and paler, eventually forcing them to regurgitate stomach acid/soul acid.

Error!404 is capable of inflicting mass in an object, completely having control over the gravitational influence that it has. This can go from all the mass in an object to a certain group of mass in it.

Error!404 is capable of telekinetically grasping an entire universe, alongside another one. To do so, he must be elevated at least 20m in the air, and have his arms stretched out with his palms facing the sky. At that point, while slowly, two whole universes will submit to his grasp, allowing for him to then thrash them together, causing an explosion so powerful it can be compared to two Big Bangs.

B.U.T.T.E.R.F.L.Y can fire large, white beams from his wings that can range from destroying a planet to an entire galaxy. This is beyond the speed of light, imperceptible to any being whatsoever. However, afterimages allow for the beam to be seen after the destruction is done. If this beam is to strike an entity that comes from a universe with alternate timelines, every single timeline of that entity will overload in magic and turn into amalgamations.

B.U.T.T.E.R.F.L.Y is capable of destabilising an entire universe, making all the matter in it enter the Mainframe's storage as it is then compressed into a small, glowing blue ball. These orbs can then combust, being as deadly as a black hole the size of a universe

Being the sole reason Error!404's body does not explode during this form, B.U.T.T.E.R.F.L.Y has the authority of the Mainframe applied to him, allowing for all forms of boundary manipulation to remain ineffective to him.

Error!404 is extremely weak to abilities that involve Ultraviolet Rays, being a condition from his cloning process. He also has a severe weakness to entities of a weak magic level, as his vision is degraded to the degree he can only truly view by the amount of magic in a vessel.

Despite having no physical weaknesses, B.U.T.T.E.R.F.L.Y is nigh incapable of using any of these abilities unless the Mainframe allows for him to, as it may take away far too much magic that the Mainframe could harvest. As a result of this, B.U.T.T.E.R.F.L.Y is more a bark than bite form, though exceptions may be made if the threat is too large, or the goal is too commendable.

His theme is Tainted Ambition by Jinify.

Error!404 is capable of glitching, though not to a crashing degree. However, given that the Mainframe had negatively reduced William’s emotional state to the point he’s rather cold, he doesn’t glitch often. He does destabilise if attacked hard enough.

He cannot fly in a general sense, yet can distort his hands to fire extremely weak alpha rays that boost him into the air. He doesn’t do it often, since it usually causes radiation sickness.

Error!404 hates Sans recolours. Gren!Snas is his least favourite person.

His favourite place to rest is specifically Alternate Timelines of Undertale, mostly Horrortale, Axetale and Grimtale. Axetale is his favourite, as he tends to try and investigate Flowey’s control over the RESETS.

He really wishes Adam wasn’t a twin, since he feels unintentionally involved in the cliché of multiple Sanses.

Background / Origin:

Error!404 began life as William in the original Alphatale universe — living peacefully alongside his brothers.

That peace shattered when their brother Jacob (Mix!Sans) went mad and killed their brother Adam before William’s eyes. Consumed by grief and rage, William tried to banish Jacob to the Anti‑Void — but was struck down first.

Transformation into Error!404:

On the verge of death and trapped in the Anti‑Void, William fused with the mysterious cosmic “Mainframe.” That event resurrected him as Error!404.

As Error!404, he gained tremendous power and immortality — enough to defeat Jacob, but at the cost of his former identity. His memories of William remained only faint fragments, replaced by the Mainframe’s will and mission.

Goals & Motivation:

Error!404’s primary goal is to restore Alphatale — rebuild his destroyed world by stripping magic and code from other universes, reshaping everything to fit his vision of a “perfect” Alphatale.

Despite his cold, calculating exterior and a strong god complex, parts of William’s original self — his curiosity, ambition, and unwillingness to harm children — occasionally resurface in him.

Personality & Inner Conflict:

Error!404 is manipulative, strategic, and dominant. He often projects confidence and authority, believing himself the “God of the Multiverse.”

But internally he struggles with guilt, grief, and insecurity. His god‑complex partly hides his fear and self‑doubt — he keeps emotions bottled up.

In short: Error!404 is the tragic rebirth of William — born from loss and fused with the cosmic Mainframe. Driven by grief and obsession, he aims to resurrect Alphatale at any cost.

He wears a white winter jacket with an extended torso.

The sleeves have the same pattern:

A blue circle at the side of the shoulder, connected to a blue line that goes downwards slightly under the elbow at the side of the sleeve, which is connected to another blue line that goes down to the mid-forearm, which connects three slightly curved blue lines that stretch to the sleeve ends before wrapping around the sleeve ends end in a line. Applies to both sleeves.

The back of the jacket has a blue "4".

The jacket has a main hood with blue fur trim with a white random line pattern in random directions, and a thinner inner hood without fur trim but with a blue circle on top.

The jacket has a blue line that runs along the placket. The jacket has no zipper at all.

The jacket has an extended hem, extended placket, and extended fabric, and the blue line along the placket runs along the extended placket aswell, though not along the hem.

He also wears black shorts with a blue vertical stripe on both sides and with a blue "4" merged into the stripes.

He wears blue slippers with a white random line pattern, like on the fur hood trim. He wears black socks.

He wears a black sweater underneath the jacket.

He has the main hood off but the inner hood on.

He has large black eyesockets, the right eye being a blue circle and the left eye being a small white dot with a white ring surrounding it and another blue outer ring surrounding it. His eyes glow.

He has blue teeth, and three black error strings running down both eyesockets. The error strings have smaller strings running between them.

His hands are multicolored. All five of his metacarpals are black, all proximal phalanges are white, all middle phalanges are black, and all distal phalanges are blue.

Blue-, white-, and black "Error" labels levitate around Error!404, and glitches surround him.

Error‑AUs often give Error!Sans (or a related error character) the ability to produce magic “strings” rather than just bones or Gaster Blasters.

The strings are visualized as thread‑ or wire‑like tendrils (often blue, sometimes colored) that come from Error (sometimes from his eyes or hands). Error!404's strings are black.

These strings are considered a form of “blue magic” in many interpretations.

Error!404 uses his strings for:

Soul / code manipulation — Error!404 can use his “strings” (or equivalent energy/cables) to pierce or latch onto a target’s soul or code. From there he can drain, corrupt, or manipulate soul, health, mana, defense or other “code‑based” stats.

Restraint / binding / immobilization — The strings can act like bindings: when latched onto someone, they can restrict movement or bind them so they cannot escape.

Healing / stat‑transference / buffing (in some variants) — In some lore versions, there are different types of strings (not just the “blue” ones). For example “green strings” can be used to transfer or restore stats — healing or shifting energy from one entity to another.

Creating constructs (weapons / tools / objects) — Advanced “construction strings” lets him weave together string‑like energy into weapons or tools (blades, hammers, etc.), shaped by his mental image. This gives him flexible combat options beyond just soul‑draining.

When Error!404 fights, he can summon “string‑entities” or “void‑strings” that latch onto opponents — restricting movement and draining HP or energy over time.

During certain phases (e.g. when he gets low health), he’ll lift himself up on strings, becoming unreachable. Meanwhile “void‑strings” spawn to catch and drain opponents, forcing them to destroy the strings first.

The arena or battleground sometimes gets reshaped via strings — e.g. Error!404 might split the ground using strings or make platforms connected by strings, to make dodging and movement harder.

His soul is white with a blue outline and a black hexagon inside with a blue inner line running along the shape of the hexagon.
