Appearance
Chun-Li's appearance has differed on several occasions during the Street Fighter video games, as well as in official illustrations and cameos she has had in other multimedia. She has brown eyes, defined lips that outline a cordial smile most of the time. She is known for having extremely voluptuous thighs. She is 1.69 m tall, refuses to reveal her weight and according to official sources her three measurements are bust 88 cm, waist 58 and hip 90. She is considered the archetype of the Chinese fighter in fighting video games. Her beautiful figure has earned her many fans both in video games and outside of them.
Appearance I
She wears a qipao, which although originating from the Manchuria region, is a traditional Chinese dress that became very popular among girls during the early 20th century. Her outfit has been modified to give her much greater freedom of movement than a normal qipao would provide. She also wears white combat boots of varying length (around the calf in games such as those in the Street Fighter II series and early installments of Capcom's Versus series, or around the knee in games based on her sprite in Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike) and a dark blue leotard, with pure brown pantyhose and blue panties underneath her qipao. Her qipao is blue with gold detailing. She was originally going to wear a peach-colored qipao, as seen in her profile screen and ending in the original Street Fighter II.
Large spiked bracelets with a black iron ring and polished white/chrome-plated steel tips are worn on both arms. According to supplementary materials, she wears this qipao in honor of her late mother, who passed away during her early childhood and whose only photograph shows her wearing a qipao similar to her daughter's. The spiked metal bracelets she is known to wear are made of iron and weigh approximately 7-10 kg each. Chun-Li also uses them to help tone and exercise her body; the qipao is fitted with weights to help develop strength and finesse, while her wristbands serve the purpose of balancing her body when performing her kicking movements, even helping to stabilize her center of gravity during a "Hyakuretsukyaku" move and limiting her during Super Combo moves like "Senretsukyaku" to prevent overexertion of her muscles. These spikes are also used for intimidation purposes.[8]
Appearance II
During the time period covered by the Street Fighter Alpha series, she wore an embroidered vest, unitard, and sneakers, as well as studded armbands. It is never made clear why she stopped wearing this outfit and would have switched to her signature qipao attire in the subsequent Street Fighter II series (where she originally appeared); supplementary materials indicate that this was worn during her active detective days for comfort.[8] In the animated film Street Fighter Alpha: The Animation, the color pattern of her vest was switched from blue to red. Her outfit from the Street Fighter Alpha series became her 'nostalgia' outfit in Street Fighter V.
In Street Fighter IV, her alternate costume consists of a sleeveless black evening dress with gold detailing at the bottom. She wears a black and gold belt and a red rope. The ensemble is completed with a pair of red shoes, gold earrings, and gold and black bracelets. The outfit resembles the clothing she wore during an episode of the American animated series Street Fighter.
In several official illustrations, she has been shown wearing her police officer uniform, as well as (presumably) her favorite casual attire: a varsity-style jacket, T-shirt, jeans, and white tennis shoes. An official illustration has also shown her wearing her studded armbands used in the Street Fighter Alpha series while wearing her casual attire.
In Street Fighter V, her first alternate outfit is the same sleeveless evening dress from Street Fighter IV, and her hair is now loose. The second outfit is her police uniform, which is also paired with featureless white boots, similar to her previous signature boots.
Appearance III
She gains new alterations to her main outfit and police uniform; her main attire is similar to the one she wore in the Street Fighter II V anime series, but is a modified sleeveless qipao with gold trim, and she wears black socks and sneakers instead of knee pads and boots.
Her police uniform is her disguise in the video game Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix, as her outfit's color is indigo and her top now shows her midriff with the black mini-vest and the "Police" sign on the front, along with her black pants and boots. She no longer sports a beret and her hair is tied in an unadorned ox-horn hairstyle.
In the Street Fighter II V anime series, Chun-Li has been seen wearing casual outfits throughout the episodes, including a red sleeveless V-neck qipao with a blue obi and ribbons hanging loosely on the right side, red chino pants, black chino shoes, her hair tied in a high ponytail adorned with a long blue laced ribbon, and a yellow sleeveless short formal dress adorned with orange-lined ribbons (resembling a skirt in the back), pink panties underneath, and open-toed yellow flats. When she was brainwashed by M. Bison, she wore her primary outfit but with minor changes; the color of her qipao is light blue with white detailing, the front and back skirt are short instead of long, her brown pantyhose are replaced with blue knee-highs, and her hair is left loose.
Hairstyle
Hairstyle Her hairstyle is called "ox horns," a typical braiding style for Chinese girls; depictions of girls in Chinese paintings often show them with this hairstyle.
In the Street Fighter Alpha series, she opted not to use any adornments for her hair bows, while in the rest of the games, she uses silk brocade and ribbons to cover them, colored white as a sign of mourning in memory of her father. These silk brocades and ribbons covering her hair bows are commonly called 'bao'.
Already in the video game Street Fighter IV, when using his alternate costume, his hairstyle can be seen in ox horns without any ornamentation, just like his appearance in the video games of the Street Fighter Alpha saga, only this time it is held by means of red ropes with small golden spheres at their tips, and is not braided.
In the anime series Street Fighter II V, Chun-Li wore her hair in a bun or sometimes a ponytail. Later, when M. Bison brainwashes her, her hair appears loose.
Personality
Chun-Li's original personality as introduced in Street Fighter II was depicted as a cheerful young girl who worships Ryu as her hero or idol, being somewhat similar to the character Sakura that would be introduced later on. As her story continued to develop, she was reborn into an extremely strict and dedicated fighter. With a strong sense of justice, she firmly believes in protecting the innocent, especially children, and has no qualms about fighting to protect her ideals. Despite a slight change in her attitude, now somewhat more stern and upright, typical of a consummate teacher and even a motherly figure, she does not lose her good spirits in the company of the people she cares about.
She is a highly experienced, disciplined, and courageous warrior, and is often the voice of reason. As an Interpol detective, she takes her job very seriously and will go to great lengths to accomplish a mission. When it comes to combat, Chun-Li tends to be very competitive and does not take defeats kindly, though after a fight she becomes an ally and in some cases, a good friend. Additionally, she has shown great resilience and determination in pursuing intense rivals, such as M. Bison and Juri. She has also been shown to be proud of her figure at times, especially her thighs.
The only video game in which she has had a noticeable change in personality is in SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos, in which she is seen to be more distracted, carefree and a little clumsy, often making unfortunate and inappropriate comments to other fighters like Tessa, Kasumi Todoh or Earthquake, which make them angry.
Relations
Allies Ryu: He is one of Chun-Li's most trusted allies and best friends. She deeply admires Ryu for his great determination and willingness to never give up in his fights and goals. He also seems to respect Chun-Li for her great fighting skills. Cammy: They are both great friends and generally keep in touch. They mention each other's names frequently and often team up with Guile when it comes to fighting Shadaloo. Chun-Li is also the one Cammy often questions about 'normal' life, such as when she asks if Laura and Sean's bond can be considered a typical sibling relationship. She also asks why Ken was fighting for his family instead of staying out of it and protecting them. Chun-Li states that there are some cases that just can't be helped, especially when someone needs to be protected, similar to how her father did.
In the video game Street Fighter X Tekken, Chun-Li and Cammy are unique partners as a team. The two work together to uncover the secrets of Pandora, and investigate why Shadaloo and the Mishima Zaibatsu are trying to obtain it. Gen: Her former teacher and her father's friend. He was the one who hinted that M. Bison had killed her father. However, during Street Fighter IV, he didn't want to give her any further answers. She tried to force him to reveal more details, but he couldn't. Guile: His lifelong friend and companion. They both share a mutual disdain for Mr. Bison. Karin: She and Chun-Li are good friends. In a victory quote against her, Karin claims that some of her moves were inspired by Chun-Li. She participates in Karin's operation to destroy Shadaloo and defeat M. Bison.
Biography I
Background At the age of five, Chun-Li saw her first classical Chinese performance, a Peking Opera, which left her fascinated and also became the reason why she began practicing martial arts.[9]
She began learning tai chi. However, tai chi was very different from the magnificent movements she remembered from Peking Opera. Soon after, her father taught her hong quan, as well as various basic exercises thereafter. With this, her Chinese martial arts skills improved rapidly. Chun-Li predominantly used kicks when fighting. This trait was something she picked up from her father, who was also said to have "legendary legs." She continued to develop her kicking attacks, embracing techniques from a variety of other martial arts, such as capoeira, Chinese martial arts, battle karate, taekwondo, and thus eventually creating her own style.[10]
Later, she became a detective at the age of 18,[10] hoping to find her missing father. She later followed in her father's footsteps and became a narcotics investigator for the ICPO (International Criminal Police Organization), also known as Interpol, working as that organization's anti-Shadaloo investigator. She became known as the "black sheep of the ICPO" due to the fact that she was investigating Shadaloo for illegal narcotics and weapons sales, while simultaneously gaining influence from Interpol's high-ranking officials.
Chun-Li was an Interpol investigator who had been searching for clues about her father's recent disappearance. During a friendly sparring match with her former teacher and old friend of her father's, Gen, he gives her a lead on who might have killed her father: the mysterious Shadaloo crime syndicate.
Biography II
Upon finding their leader, M. Bison, she demands to know what happened to her father. To her great surprise, M. Bison attacks her and basically defeats her with ease. He then flies away, laughing at her and disdainfully telling her that when they meet again, a greater challenge will be present, who just happens to be her father. With tears in her eyes (the last ones she claims to never shed again), Chun-Li swears revenge.
Chun-Li teamed up with United States Air Force member Charlie Nash to try to track down Shadaloo and destroy the criminal organization. She then encountered someone she didn't expect. It was Charlie's good friend and fellow lieutenant, Guile. Telling Guile not to get in over his head and to leave the two of them alone, Chun-Li learned that he had orders to take Charlie back. After attempting to use force to stop him, Guile immediately appeared and held her in his arms, telling her that she could not force Charlie to stop doing what was right and out of good intentions; however, she insisted that she and her partner knew what they were doing, to which Guile replied that he never abandoned a friend in times of need.
After eventually learning that M. Bison tricked the Air Force into canceling the planned bombing raids on Shadaloo's main base, Chun-Li was quick to tell the two soldiers that they had been tricked and would have to destroy the base on their own. Chun-Li, along with Charlie and Guile, proceeded to Shadaloo's base in Thailand, with her planting explosive bombs around the base while Charlie and Guile headed inside the complex to destroy the Psycho Drive. However, Guile had already left, carrying Chun-Li and telling her that Charlie had urged them both to get as far away as possible.
Biography III
Meanwhile, Ryu was battling M. Bison. Along the way, Chun-Li saw a girl escape from the compound with several others (who turned out to be Killer Bee/Cammy) and then encountered Ryu, and they all escaped together. Later, Guile told her that Charlie was inside the Shadaloo base during the explosion, leaving her apparent death in the process. Despite being frustrated by the initial lack of evidence to prove Shadaloo's crimes, Chun-Li managed to shut down the evil Shadaloo empire's operations.
Chun-Li received an invitation to the second World Warrior Tournament and discovered that M. Bison had survived the destruction of Shadaloo's secret base in Thailand. This gave her a clear motive for attending the tournament: to destroy Shadaloo and avenge her father once and for all. The tournament's outcome left Chun-Li as the winner, defeating Bison.
However, regardless of the outcome, M. Bison ultimately falls at the hands of Ryu's nemesis, Akuma. Afterward, Chun-Li is at peace with herself and visits her father's grave regularly.
Sometime after the fall of Shadaloo, Chun-Li, Guile, and Cammy are summoned to a theme park to stop Juri's (an operative of Shadaloo's weapons division, SIN) rampage. As Guile and Cammy try to evacuate the trapped civilians, Chun-Li confronts Juri just as she executes a rogue SIN agent and a civilian woman. Juri seriously injures Chun-Li, but before she can execute her, she is forced to flee just as Guile and Cammy arrive on the scene of the engagement due to a malfunction in her artificial eye. Guile later informs Chun-Li of his failure to apprehend Juri.
Biography IV
After retiring, Chun-Li finds her life less than she expected, still feeling uneasy. Over time, she receives news of the incidents involving disappearances and kidnappings, which reawakens her fighting spirit, convincing her to return to the fight. She is soon visited by Guile, who reveals evidence of Shadaloo's possible return. She tells Guile that she is not only fighting for her father, but also for herself, and that she will remain a police officer.
Donning her costume again, Chun-Li rejoins Interpol and teams up with Guile and Cammy to take down SIN and discover what really happened to M. Bison. Along the way, she encounters Abel, who is searching for clues about his past, which seems to be somehow connected to Shadaloo. During the tournament, she also pursues Gen, who is also participating in the tournament, to get more answers about his father's death; Gen however refuses and she is unable to get him to talk. She later encounters Juri once again, attempting to stop her and though he is able to defeat her, he is unable to take her into custody.
Upon infiltrating SIN headquarters, she is unaware of Vega, who had previously stolen top-secret data from the computers and activated a self-destruct system after previously spraying the facility with toxic gas. However, she manages to contact Guile before losing consciousness. Chun-Li is protected by Gen from the debris of the explosion and is eventually rescued by Guile and Abel, taking with her enough SIN information to continue her investigation.
Biography V
Chun-Li was one of the characters confirmed for this game, appearing in the promotional trailer also along with Ryu. [12] According to gameplay, her story would begin by showing her life with a girl she has adopted to care for, Chun-Li is worried to see that the little girl is sad so she decides to tell her part of her past to see if she can improve her mood. With this begins her battles that the player can fight from the first encounter with Vega (which ends in defeat for her), when she met Guile and Charlie Nash, trusting other people for the first time, since according to her she did not like working as a team, feeling that she was actually alone in her fight against Shadaloo. She will wear the clothes of a government agent instead of her characteristic clothes and supposedly will look younger than she is (but due to the animation of the game there are no major differences with her current self).
At the end of her story, she defeats Vega, unable to stop him, but thanks to Guile and Charlie's help, she learns the value of having help and trusting others. With this, the little girl tells her that she thought she was alone, which is why she was sad, but upon hearing her, she understands that this is not the case and decides to become stronger with Chun-Li as her teacher.
After making peace with herself, she continued her work as a police officer and later retired from the streets to dedicate herself to teaching the noble arts of wushu and tai chi. She also decided to adopt an orphaned girl from China. One day, the little girl is kidnapped, and Chun-Li begins to investigate her whereabouts, discovering that the person responsible was a man named Urien, a high-ranking member of a secret organization called the Illuminati. To find her daughter, she signs up for the new tournament along with the other Street Fighters (Ryu, Ken, and Sean). She managed to reach the Illuminati base, where she encountered a Urien.
Biography VI
who is interested in her warrior potential (just as many others before him have been) and reveals that he knows the girl's whereabouts and that he will only reveal it to her after a fight that he considers entertaining. Chun-Li ends up being the winner of the confrontation, because it is finally shown that she returns with her daughter safely.
Finally, six months later she reflects on her daughter and her life, deciding to open a dojo and teach children, teaching them the values of martial arts, kindness, beauty and justice.
She is currently a retired agent, living with her adopted daughter Li-Fen whom she also trains and also runs a dojo in Metro City.
