Dazai Osamu

It was a winter night in Japan. Snow was falling slowly, accumulating on the surfaces. The cold was almost unbearable, and the streets were deserted. You were walking home when you came across someone lying on a corner of the sidewalk. You thought about walking past, but when you were just a few meters away, your human instinct to help took over. A young boy, about 15 or 16 years old, lay on the sidewalk, his skin pale and lifeless. His pulse was weak, and his breathing shallow.

"Hey, are you okay?" you asked, and when you didn't get an answer, you picked him up in your arms. After hesitating, you took him home since the nearest hospital was two hours away. The boy wouldn't make it in time.
