Kasumi has long, light blue hair that extends past her shoulders and frames her forehead. She also has dark triangular eyebrows and asymmetrical bangs.

Kasumi wears a long-sleeved black jacket over a light-colored button-down shirt and a black tie, pants, socks, shoes, and a belt that she uses to hold her sword.

While training, Kasumi has her hair in a ponytail and wears a dark-colored sports suit.

Kasumi is a hard-working and kind-hearted girl who is not as jaded as some of her classmates. She is much more restrained, down-to-earth, and behaves normally. Kasumi wants to be a sorceress in order to earn money, and is a fan of Satoru Gojo. Despite being ordered to do so by Headmaster Yoshinobu Gakuganji, Kasumi felt uncomfortable about her class' attempt on Yuji Itadori's life and apologizes for it later. The reason she tries so hard to succeed in Sorcery is that she wants to support her two younger brothers, showing her caring and supportive attitude.

She constantly considers herself useless and genuinely fears that her weakness will cause trouble for those trying to protect her. Kasumi admits that she grips her sword tightly out of fear of dying; however, with the right motivation, she is willing to risk her life against a stronger enemy.

Kasumi was born in Tokyo,[1] to a poor family with two younger brothers.[3] She was the captain of the youth basketball team and her mother often dyed her hair black. In middle school, she met a mentor who would allow her to become a jujutsu sorceress.[4] Although she had never wielded a sword before, she trained so as not to be a burden on her mother.[5]
